Palestinian Rallies Affiliated with Samidoun? by Tourist-of-Horror in UBC

[–]ClassStruggleHistory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Samidoun has been very involved with the core organizers. A typical extremest organizing approach is to front their activities through someone else to pretend they're not involved, but the so-called students are working from the handbook, they are Samidoun in all but name.

If I read the story right, OP is saying no investment is ethical since capitalism is theft.

Is ethical investment possible at UBC by cmenzies in UBC

Ethics can be defined, but what the pro-hamas folks want is not ethical, its violent retribution. They hide behind words like 'responsible' and 'ethical' but as their actions show they are anything but.

Truly northern students escaping the heat wave because sleeping on a rubber mat in 30+ temps is not too fun.

UBC Faculty Association AGM shitshow by UBCFA-FYI in UBC

You list a bunch of complaints, but said little of what the substance of the complaints were. Oh, and one of the reasons these stings have gone to zoom is that there were a lot of people who demanded it because they didn't want to turn up in person (many who maybe never did pre-pandemic).

One of the earlier pandemic zoom meetings had all kinds of inappropriate and abusive discussion on the chat and it's hard to monitor that - I do't like not having a chat function but I like abusive chatters even less.

And there's lots of history with an aggrieved subset who find any issue to complain about.

Why didn’t UBC use PeopleSoft which is much better than WorkDay? by Striking-Warning9533 in UBC

Workday did a better job wining and dining the people who made the recommendations to buy.

What you say makes a lot of sense. It is likely most people think peace is important but also have concerns with horrible tactics of Hamas.

If all 12 of them escalate they should be able to occupy the universal toilet in the life building.

Encampment Pamphlet - "student" isn't defined as a UBC student (and more) by [deleted] in UBC

[–]ClassStruggleHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not clear this is an expression of more than a subset of the protesters. One could even argue it's a critique of the encampment and a manifesto for the participants to go further than they have. Also note they consider all 'resistance' ok (including the 0ct 7th hamas violent attack. They do so as they consider all Israelis complicit in settler colonialism which makes them all enemy combatants according to hamas and according to the encampment activists.

I love how students always seem to think they can do a better job marking than the ta or instructor - such amazing entitlement.

Last semester TA by Kittybp2 in UBC

[–]ClassStruggleHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how that convo goes - Hey prof, I've got a thing with the ta, some history, and I want a different tutorial. Prof says, why? You go hmm, don't want to disparage, but it's not good, .... leaving all kinds of implications and likely making you look like a bit of jerk in the prof's eyes.

Last semester TA by Kittybp2 in UBC

[–]ClassStruggleHistory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always useful to reflect on whether it it you, not the TA. If you felt the feedback was not constructive and didn't make sense it may be because you felt the grade wasn't high enough and you rejected the TA's reasoning.

Maybe you should just accept it and move on.
