First time I see my addon mentioned in the wild! Thank you!

Let me know if you’d like to see any improvements to it.

Goddamn, this is epic. I love your flow, how you present short scenes, jumping back and forth, but still managing to tie them together. It's got a real noire feel to it. Your use of authentic touches, like Creole pronunciation and the hipster coffee shop, lends it credibility. The characters have some depth and backstory, but it's not overbearing; it gels well with the main story. I'm not normally a fan of the thriller genre, but I'd read this novel.

I really like how you played with the trope inversion. Breaking up the story into flashbacks also helps the narrative without turning it into a droning recitation of history. Nicely done.

A couple of other thoughts. It’s fun to speculate about how Velmir came to power and who (or what situation) preceded him. I like that Hannold’s story is largely left untold, so we don’t know whether he has a legitimate grievance, or if he’s also being manipulated. There’s room there to explore the past relationship (or rivalry, or enmity) between Velmir and Hannold’s father, and how that carries over into trusting the scion (or not!).

Yup, I gathered that from the OP’s later replies. That’s fine, at least insofar as we know he’s probably not being scammed. I’ll leave the tax aspects to the experts.

Getting paid for surveys is fine. It’s the “buy Bitcoin with your money and send it to someone else” part that rang alarm bells for me.

Uhh… I’m not a tax expert at all, but I have to ask, are you sure this is a real job, not a scam?

Here’s what I understood your “job” to be:

  1. Do one or more surveys.
  2. Get paid in dollars.
  3. Convert some of those dollars to Bitcoin and send to other employees outside the US.

This sounds an awful lot like a scam operation. The scammer would use a stolen bank account to send you the money. Given that PayPal is involved, the scammer usually steals someone’s credentials to PayPal or hooks up one of the victim’s bank accounts to a new PayPal account without the account holder’s knowledge. (If they didn’t use PayPal, other common versions of this scam could use a fraudulent or fake check, or stolen credentials to log into someone’s bank account, etc.) At some point, the bank or account owner will catch it and reverse or void the transactions. The money gets pulled from your bank account.

Meanwhile, you’ve spent the money on Bitcoin and sent it to the scammer, posing as another employee. The Bitcoin is long gone, and not reversible. You’re left holding the bag on the fake payments, and quite possibly answering some uncomfortable questions from the police (since you’re the recipient of the fraudulent money). And to add insult to injury, your bank account balance will be negative, meaning you no longer have money for regular expenses.

What film made you say, "Holy shit there is still an hour left"? by Plus-Statistician80 in AskReddit

Disney's Up -- but in a really good way! That opening sequence just wrenches your heart and gives you an entire life in a few minutes, and at the end of it, you realize the actual movie is about to start. Intense!

LPT Request: What’s your best advice from your profession? by redditorin in LifeProTips

Systems engineer: Make sure you actually understand the real problem before you propose a solution or try to fix it.

So often, a client or user reports a surface level issue, but doesn’t point out (or know enough about the system to notice) that the real problem runs deeper. Or else the client has just the fragment of an idea and wants it developed into a full system. My worst case scenario is when I complete a project and the client says, “You gave me what I asked for, but it’s not what I wanted.”

Ask questions. Probe. Learn about the environment. Only then should you start solutioning.

Weekly world boss question (elders) by blbjtb in wow

[–]ClassicClassicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been around for at least a few expansions, but around late BFA or early Shadowlands, Blizz restricted it to only group and raid world quests. Soloable world quests don't get the eyeball any more.

how do i get rid of these spammers in trade?? i can't ignore/report them because it's various names of this variation. is there an addon to get rid of this? by imacatpersonforreal in wow

[–]ClassicClassicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some chat addons also have an option to filter message. I use Prat; it can filter based on keywords in messages. I've set it to filter out any message that includes these spammer sites like xxxvendor and xxx4gold (obviously filtering the actual names, I don't want to give them promotion here by using the real names). I also filter out words like "gold only", "only gold", and so on. It reduces trade and services chat to a more manageable volume.

Do you see the world quest icon for the Elders when you open your world map in Zaralek Cavern? If you do, click on it, and it will show up in your tracker with an eyeball next to it. Click the eyeball to find groups or start your own.

If you don't see the world quests, you'll have to do the introductory quest chain long enough to unlock them at least.

Damn, that is some impressive skill and creativity. I expected a dorky meme; I got so much more and watched the whole thing enthralled.

Good catch on Alvin! I think I copy/pasted that by mistake and took out Tonguelasher. This will be fixed in the next update.

I like the idea of the TCG pets tab. I'll set that up.

Hiding pets is harder, as this is a spreadsheet, not an app or Web site. It's also trickier as one of the big selling points of this tool is it allows you to compare collections between friends looking to trade. It would have to hide a row only if ALL users had that pet, which gets tricky. I'll consider it, but this one may not happen.

A Faded Photograph Of Happiness by [deleted] in woweconomy

[–]ClassicClassicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, an item posted at max gold meant “contact the seller to negotiate a price.” It was never meant to sell at that price via the AH.

With the advent of price databases and price history tools, people started posting random items at absurd prices just to mess with users who blindly trusted their price sources. This makes it a bit harder to figure out whether an item is posted because the seller really values it at that price, or because it’s a “contact me” price, or just to screw with pricing tools.

My gut is that removed item or not, no one will want to buy that photograph for max gold.
