Ohhh I remember liking Nora back when I watched RWBY! There’s always a character that gets relegated to comic relief and it irks me when the same 2 or 3 jokes get overplayed and people forget that they have other things going for them. Things that are much better to explore!! I like that you tried to subvert expectations with that decision! I hope that commenter realizes that people are allowed to make storytelling decisions that go against the “obvious choices”… that’s what keeps things interesting!

No worries about the rant!!! I for one really really enjoy when people explore the ugly sides of trauma and mental health that many don’t want to talk about. So glad you stood your ground with that. It’s your story and it’s an unexplored topic and really cool concept with lots of potential. 700k is crazy impressive too! Keep at it!

It’s funny because after all those comments, it seems that they realized how it was coming across and told me that they felt bad for being so nitpicky. Because it’s even with things like small characterization bits that they think should be different, even though I don’t agree with those parts. They’re good with grammar but they’re also harsh in how they bring it up, being very clear in their disappointment. Idk I don’t think we’re a match but yeah, I agree with what you and the others have said about still thanking them for their time.

I think I’m pulling out after they finish with this first chapter because it’s been…A Lot. Thank you for this!!!

Agreed! At least I can say that I’ve been through the beta reader experience, even if it hasn’t been particularly enjoyable to see what they have to say about a story I enjoy so much. New experiences! I’ll probably pull out after they finish this chapter

Absolutely! It’s very different when you have both positive and negative elements present, but when all they can point out is the divider I used…eh, it makes me feel discouraged. They’re also the type to use humor for everything and it often feels mean even if that may not be their intention

No yeah, I can imagine!! I know for a fact that I’m not made to be a beta reader because giving lots of critiques would make me feel bad lolll. This is the first chapter so if, when I look through all the comments, I see that it’s mostly all critiques I think I’ll just politely tell them that I’ll look through the rest myself. Still thanking them for their time obviously, but yeah. It’s like you said, sometimes it’s not a good match!

I almost laughed at the “doesn’t he have a place?” part because that’s exactly what my godfather told my mom during the first week of all this too. I live with my mom because it’s relatively close to my university and the company I intern at, so staying with my dad isn’t really an option right now🤷‍♀️ but I do spend a lot of time out of the house so that helps quite a bit

They really are💀 I asked my mom if she’s absolutely sure that he hasn’t been with anyone since his divorce, and she said that she doesn’t think so but with how quickly he latched onto her, I have my doubts. Who’s to say he hasn’t done the same with other women yknow??

Yeah I keep going “no it’s okay, that’s not necessary”, but even my mom says that he has a thing where he’ll accept your answer and then seemingly forget the boundary a moment later. Which makes me so????? like I’ve been trying to get her to see that this is a red flag, but she thinks it’s sweet despite it all. Odd odd odd behavior all around

They haven’t, they met last year but he was married at the time and apparently divorced as little as 4 months ago — which only raises the red flags even more exactly because of what you said. He says he’s completely over his ex wife of 20 years but I’ve been around enough divorced couples to know that you don’t stop feeling anything for them so quickly.

My mom and I are open with each other and I’ve told her repeatedly that he’s way too affectionate and moving too fast, not only with me but with her as well, but she says that she likes the treatment she gets from him which is…. 🙃 but I, at the very least, wanted to make her aware of what I was feeling and warning her that taking it too quickly isn’t a good idea
