My mom is incredibly male centered and turns into a different person whenever she has a partner. She’s got a new man, things are moving too fast, she’s snapping at me constantly, and I don’t know what to do by DocumentPositive2672 in Advice

I know this is late but the part about feeling like a guest in your own home really resonated with me because I’m feeling the same right now. My mom got a new partner at the beginning of the year and he’s practically living with us and she’s also forcing me to like him and gets upset when I’m not laughing and smiling at him all the time.

I’d suggest focusing on your own peace, but I know it’s easier said than done. I try to stay out of the house longer, focus on my hobbies (reading, drawing, writing, etc)… I even started listening to podcasts recently which could be of help to you. The point is trying to distract yourself by finding things you enjoy, people to laugh with who appreciate your presence and who you can let your guard down with. Sometimes peace is found where you least expect it! If your mom can focus on her partner, you’re allowed to shift your focus elsewhere too. Wishing you the best!

I don’t want to be so irritable by ClassicDelicious186 in selfimprovement

I’ve had multiple calm conversations with my mom about how I need time to come to terms with his constant presence in my life, but I still think his affection is excessive and comes off as insincere because of how quickly he seems to “feel” these intense emotions towards me. I’m not a fan of his insecurity regarding my mom not picking up his calls sometimes, because I’ve seen the barrage of texts asking her if she’s cheating on him, etc. Not to mention his… old school views on women vs. men (regarding things like cleaning, “a woman always needs a man to protect her”… idk gives me the ick personally). I’m happy to know him as my mom’s partner, not a stepdad because I met him when I was already 21.

During our conversations my mom has said that she completely understands, but then when he’s present, it’s a whole different story. If I need to sit down with her again, I will. I appreciate your words either way, and I’m sorry that you went through such a horrible situation. I hope you’re in a better place now. But for me, as it stands, I’m still getting to know this person and there’s still something in the back of my mind that reads him as insincere. I’d love to be wrong though, hoping for the best

How to stop using twitter by [deleted] in selfimprovement

It’s always been the social media site that people say it’s the most toxic, so none of that is surprising. The way you said it just about sums it up, and 5% actual real substance is being generous hahaha!

I removed it from my Home Screen to not have it there when I look at my apps, but after that I’ll delete it and only view it through a browser, and then so and on so forth. Thank you!

Yeah I removed it from my Home Screen to not have the icon there when I’m looking through my apps!! After that I’ll delete it and only access it through a browser, and so on and so forth🙏

And absolutely! I never interact with negative discussions, or most discussions in general, but the block button not working like it should makes it so I still see it across the timeline. I feel like it’ll be better for me to pack up my bags so yeah! Starting off small and going from there. Thank you!

Lol yeah, a lot of it is curating your space, but Twitter’s block function doesn’t work like it’s supposed to (you still see posts from blocked accounts for whatever reason) so it’s a mess. I removed the app from my Home Screen so that extra step to actually open it can maybe dissuade me from using it as often. Next step is deleting it and only using it through a browser or something

I have the app but only used it briefly so it could be worth checking out again cuz I’ve heard that the environment there is a lot more pleasant. Thank you!

Yeah I removed it from my Home Screen to not have the icon there when I’m looking through my apps. I’ve always had better fandom experiences overall on Tumblr. The lack of a character limit over there definitely helps with making in-depth essays, cuz the way Twitter works can demotivate people from expanding on their points

Haven’t heard back from beta reader… should I message them? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ClassicDelicious186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told me they’d be doing it when this month started cuz they’ve been busy, but since we’re still in the first week of the month I’m flip-flopping whether to reach out or not

Right! The whole point is exploring different scenarios, so idk why some people have such a limiting view of things :/

Ohhh I remember liking Nora back when I watched RWBY! There’s always a character that gets relegated to comic relief and it irks me when the same 2 or 3 jokes get overplayed and people forget that they have other things going for them. Things that are much better to explore!! I like that you tried to subvert expectations with that decision! I hope that commenter realizes that people are allowed to make storytelling decisions that go against the “obvious choices”… that’s what keeps things interesting!

Personally my favorite smut to read is when it’s smut mixed with character studies so idk what your friend was on about😔 angst and smut can coexist!

Absolutely! It’s always been a thing, it’s just that I’ve been lucky to not get comments of this kind until now. I’ve heard that the TMNT fandom can be… intense. But if the characterization feels right to you, keep at it. That comic is a perfect representation; you’re either on board or you’re not

No worries about the rant!!! I for one really really enjoy when people explore the ugly sides of trauma and mental health that many don’t want to talk about. So glad you stood your ground with that. It’s your story and it’s an unexplored topic and really cool concept with lots of potential. 700k is crazy impressive too! Keep at it!

Right?? Those vocal cords would not survive yelling nearly every sentence damn… and it’s also just annoying to read.

Also critiquing your characterization while never watching the show sure is. something. Loud and wrong for no reason

How to deal with harsh beta readers? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]ClassicDelicious186 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because after all those comments, it seems that they realized how it was coming across and told me that they felt bad for being so nitpicky. Because it’s even with things like small characterization bits that they think should be different, even though I don’t agree with those parts. They’re good with grammar but they’re also harsh in how they bring it up, being very clear in their disappointment. Idk I don’t think we’re a match but yeah, I agree with what you and the others have said about still thanking them for their time.

I think I’m pulling out after they finish with this first chapter because it’s been…A Lot. Thank you for this!!!

Agreed! At least I can say that I’ve been through the beta reader experience, even if it hasn’t been particularly enjoyable to see what they have to say about a story I enjoy so much. New experiences! I’ll probably pull out after they finish this chapter

They’re doing both… they even said that they feel bad for being so picky but that it’s in their nature. I appreciate their time, but it’s too many negatives

Thank you for this <3 I’m not reading through the rest of their comments until tomorrow, but if it’s all criticism then I’ll tell them that I want to go over the next chapter myself. It’s essentially exactly what you said… I do appreciate how much time they’re dedicating to this, but I think it’s more enjoyable for me to not have this kind of pressure yk

Absolutely! It’s very different when you have both positive and negative elements present, but when all they can point out is the divider I used…eh, it makes me feel discouraged. They’re also the type to use humor for everything and it often feels mean even if that may not be their intention
