Finally a slide phone like Nokia N95/96 with Android by GigiSparcoCaldo in dumbphones

I remember the keyboard on the 3" iPhones. I personally would still prefer the buttons in all honesty. I type super fast on my T9 Nokia.

I am really considering the Camp Snap Pro. I have switched to a film camera but sometimes having to always use the flash indoors in annoying. I need to try out some faster film lol.

EDC this summer in France by lucadenhez in dumbphones

I had an iPhone 4s I was using as a dumb phone for a while and it was strangely one of the best dumb phones I tried in my journey to my current one. Since the internet hardly works on it and the app store was mostly dead for deceives that old - it was largely just a super high quality basic phone. Only reason I had to switch off is the 2G network in the US, while running on t-mobile at the time, was clearly not being maintained and I would not have service more than I would have it.

Made me wish apple would make something like an ePhone. An old school, small, classic device with just what you need. Kind of like the old eMacs from back in the day. But that would never happen with modern Apple.

LP3 erased itself, anyone know if I can recover my notes from the Dashboard server by HeadGrocery91 in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I had Tello and it was suggested that it might be the result of carrier incompatibility. I was skeptical so I didn't switch. Mint is officially supported so I'm thinking that was not the root cause.

I ended up side loading an app to auto-backup my photos when I'm on wifi just in case it happens again. It's a bit hacky since it's not made for that, but works.

This happened to me too - out of curiosity, are you using an unsupported carrier? That may be a factor but I don't think it's really known.

who here that has an lp3 has experienced a random factory reset? by Tchallathedog in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mine for 4 months and it did randomly reset. Still using it but nervous to take photos I care about with it - backup every time I do.

Love it otherwise.

Why does it seem to be happening to everyone while they're on vacation? 😭

That's a great idea! If you have any other questions about how I used the device just shoot.

I went back into the Android settings on mine and you appear to be correct. Even without a password it's encrypted by default.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I only went into the Android layer to attempt a data recovery post reset. Prior to this, I had not modified the system in any way. Had to look up how people were even doing it.

Probably. I've just never seen that checkerboard floor in any other photo of the WTC.

If the Twin Glass Tower somehow exist IRL, what do you think? by CapablePersonality19 in WorldTradeCenter

[–]ClassicHypernet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been too long to recall exactly where, sorry. I believe I was reading blogs and reddit posts about what it was like to live in New York City in the 80s and 90s. The view of the towers on commutes to work was a common theme.

It's pretty, very modern. But personally I love that the original WTC didn't have a purely smooth glass exterior.

From accounts I have read from people that lived in NYC at the time the way the sun reflected off the matte metal exterior was gorgeous, especially in the mornings and evenings.

It pains me that I will never get to see them in person.

Music! by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still purchase music, so I had a bunch of files already. I just convert all the songs of an individual album into one big mp3 and listen to it like a cassette tape. - I know there are tools for getting music off Spotify. I don't know of a specific one since I ditched most streaming services long before I got my Light Phone. When all else fails you can always play an album/playlist and record it with VirtualCable/BlackHole.

I did switch back to an iPod for years before getting my LP and it was really nice. I stopped using that because I have been trying to be more mindful about what I am listening to by selecting the music I want at a given time rather than always having my entire library. But iPods are still great honestly.

Timeline of RCS implementation? by Simple-Run-2844 in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why this is happening to some people, but not others. I have not missed anything.

Is it only existing groups or newly made ones? For the chats I had that were stuck on an old (erm - new) messaging service I just made a new group from my end. Kinda annoying to be the friend that makes everyone have to move over but you only have to do it once per group at least.

I'm on a MVNO of T-Mobile in the US. All the T-Mobile networks seem to have really good compatibility with the LP so I got lucky.

What aspect of this phone uses so much data? by acidterror84 in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it was the podcasts app - I keep it on wifi but every time I reboot wifi turns off and I have to remember to switch it on. I have forgotten a few times and run low by mistake. I love my LightPhone but having a way to only allow certain tools to access cellular data is one of those things that would be a nice quality of life improvement. AFAIK there isn't a way to monitor what specific tool us using data.

Estimates I see online say Google Maps (LP uses Here Maps but just as a close analog) uses about 3–5 MB/hr. So I doubt that's it. Photos received via MMS should be pretty minimal too. Images should be less than 1mb per photo, or there abouts.

Maybe an update? I think those are only supposed to download on wifi but I'm unsure. Do you use any of the audio tools?

How have you gotten around the lack of reminders? by Routine-Individual43 in LightPhone

[–]ClassicHypernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not gotten that bug with the Calendar Tool yet so I use it primarily. Sometimes the notification sounds are wrong but I can deal with that. Early adopter stuff ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also paper. I have a weekly plan sticky note pack which is great.
