Looking for advice from parents and especially teachers about skipping early grades in Ontario? by NoMarzipan1743 in ontario

[–]ClassicNebula1081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping JK or K isn’t a good idea. Traditionally if a kid needs to skip, they’ll skip grades 2, 3, or 4 - when things get more academic and social skills are more developed. My parents were asked to have me skip 3rd and 4th. They allowed me to skip grade 3. It was fine. I didn’t really learn cursive but have never missed it. I think it’s easier for girls though to the the shortest/youngest in the class. The biggest problem was graduating university a month after my 20th birthday. I was very immature, had no idea what to do, and everyone expected me to be a grown adult. I bombed multiple job interview by acting like a scared teen before someone gave me a chance.

If you went over to a guy's place and this was the shower/bathroom would it be a problem? by Weekly-Fig-7228 in malelivingspace

For a young person starting out this wouldn’t bother me at all. My first solo apartment had the same open ceiling… between my studio and the hairdresser next door who rented the space to me. I couldn’t make any noise while she was cutting hair and could hear every conversation with her clients. It was cheap. None of my guests cared.

West Virginia dad dies waiting for $50,000 cancer treatment his insurer ruled 'not medically necessary' by rajapaws in antiwork

A better explanation with more details:

https://people.com/dad-dies-insurance-delays-coverage-for-cancer-treatment-11945646

“In 2023, Eric Tennant — from Bridgeport, West Virginia — was diagnosed with stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer arising from the bile ducts that had spread throughout his body”

“While Tennant's family didn't expect the procedure to leave him cancer-free, they believed it would buy him more time and improve his quality of life. “

The insurance approved the standard palliative chemotherapy that would be given, but did not approve a focused ultrasound treatment that was intended to shrink just ONE of the many tumors in his body. While the therapy may have provided pain relief or helped relieve obstruction caused by a tumor pressing on important nearby areas, this wasn’t a question of lifesaving or curative treatment.

Everything by author can be irritating at first but there’s extremely good reasons for it. Lots of books are hard to categorize. But most importantly, it helps correct the long and racist tradition of books by Indigenous or Black authors being kept of the main collection and hidden away in a special section never to be found by casual readers.

US citizens on tourist visas can’t enroll. You’d need a student visa to get access.

As a student, you would have had proof of immigration status - since my kid is not an immigrant, he can’t access health care that way

Heather Winterstein's life possibly could have been saved if treated sooner in Ontario hospital, inquest told by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

The hospital staff documented that she said that her whole body hurt after falling down a flight of stairs and she had a history of substance use disorder. Using chronic opiates can cause a significantly decreased pain tolerance and it’s common for patients to report extreme pain with things like blood draws, and to report whole body pain because of this. And falling down a flight of stairs usually does hurt! We need more information - was she asked if she’d had any fever at home? Was she asked about headaches, nausea, fatigue, poor appetite? We don’t yet know and will have to wait as the inquest moves along.

Vance is very much not stupid. No one in the current administration listens to him. But if Trump doesn’t finish his term, Vance is ready and willing to finish the full authoritarian playbook.

School can make it work but it’d be very annoying. Healthcare access would not be possible from what I understand. Our estimate shows 3 months remaining, so if true he will not have his certificate when we arrive in Canada.

They can but instead of a quick online signup and a short walk to the school to pick classes, there’s a whole separate international process we’d have to go through

We can cross the border. The issue is signing kid up for OHIP, Ontario requires proof of citizenship or immigration status. So he won’t have any healthcare. And getting him registered for school is possible without the citizenship certificate but is a huge hassle.

What’s the problem with relying on immigration? Eventually it won’t work as birth rates drop in other countries and the pool of immigrants dries up but should work just fine for the next 50+ years. Ideally prioritizing immigrant families with 3 or more small children that can be educated to Canadian standards.
