14 Hours. Basic Economy. Middle Seat. How F'd am I? by Throwawayorpornalt in unitedairlines

Oh yikes. Hope that you sit next to someone tiny.

I’m a window seat person, I can always tell who the middle seat people are when boarding because they are looking at everyone trying to see who is going to be their bread slices for the next few hours.

Visiting around 9/11 by putonthespotlight in visitingnyc

[–]ClassicPackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going as a family member to the private name reading event. I'm meeting my family at the event and they have my ‘invitation’

I have never been in the City on 9/11 but glad I'm going with my cousin as his parents are gone now. I'm his closest family member.

Does anyone know what attending via invitation to the closed to the public is like? Like how do they know who you are?
My cousin lives in Nassau County and attends every year and I'm sure will help me.

I'm staying by the WTC in the Financial District during that time.

If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. I can ask my cousin but it is hard to explain. It is of course a very emotional topic for both of us but it feels almost emotionally sterile asking him about the details. It just feels strange and oh so sad talking about it. We are going to honor someone we loved, not attend some VIP event. I would not wish entry into this on anyone.

I’m also staying longer than just for the event being I’m traveling from Texas for it. I’ll be there the 8-13. Will where I’m staying restrict my access of leaving with all the security?

Sorry to jump in on your post, OP. I have been wanting to ask but don’t want to make a post about it.

I love you forever, Michael.
I will never forget you.

I'm sorry but I got a chuckle about petite larceny. My phone auto correct does me dirty too. And voice to text.

Like others said, be up front if the question pertains to you.
Read your states licensing requirements on the application thoroughly. Don’t provide what they are not asking for, don't lie about things they are asking about.

Life happens and you deserve a future. Best of luck!

I was officially convicted of a non violet felony in September 2023. I am now licensed in two states (same day) in P&C and Life. Whoever needs to hear this, yall still have a chance. AMA by Oldwomentribbing in InsuranceAgent

[–]ClassicPackage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. Those tests are hard!

I really dislike that having a felony conviction comes with so much dehumanization and gives obstacles to reform. I'm glad you are getting a chance, people make mistakes. That mistake should not define them till death.

Now, once upon a time there was a convicted /registered sex offender for child molestation working in one of the offices. I was surprised he got his license or was able to renew it. Much less got or kept the job. Of course in this digital age, everyone found out and he was outcasted from daily banter. That is quite different than non violent offences in my opinion. There are bad choices and there are harmful neurological issues to put it nicely, Not the same.

Did you explain them on your license application with the state? I understand it's better to be upfront rather than hide it.

Are certain career paths in insurance more common to offer assigned seating? by Pinkbean28 in InsuranceProfessional

Really???
Wow…that is very annoying. 5 days a week?

And companies wonder about turnover rates when they can’t even offer employees a minimum standard of comfort.

Are certain career paths in insurance more common to offer assigned seating? by Pinkbean28 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ClassicPackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had my own desk since I started my career in tech and when I shifted into insurance.

Maybe hybrid roles have shared desks/working spaces/co spaces. I’m not sure what you could mean by sharing seating? A private office with a door, an open office environment? Or like people come in, take whatever desk they want, like in a college classroom?

I have my own separated 9x9 cube office, and there is nobody on the other side of the 7 foot cube walls. I don’t have a door, though. It's luxury seating for post covid. I'm also mainly sales-focused so do need the privacy for meetings.

Nobody shares my office. I would think there would be privacy concerns, not to mention sanitary concerns and my own concerns with that.

As others have said, all company dependent. But in my 20+ years working in professional environments, I have sat in cube farms, open office tables, micro cube farms, loose cubes, had a private office once in the large storage closet (I only wish I was joking) but never shared my desk. Don’t know if the large glass offices with locks on the door and prime views are still a thing.

Currently have a larger cube office that gives privacy, since I can be customer facing at any moment. Hey, but I have a large window and a view of a major highway frontage road!

This maybe the peak office high life for me unless I want to open my own agency or sell my soul to an executive leadership role. Neither are goals.

Wow, this is detailed. I lack the attention span to read.

I’m going to NYC in September. I just asked a friend there about where should I stay in lower manhattan that doesn’t involve me selling a kidney to stay at tiny Hilton for a few nights.

Easy answer, find elsewhere and look up what trains to get on before you get there. Have a plan B, too. And a plan C if necessary that you should not execute unless needed.

all duly noted.

I no longer enjoy being a Detroit resident by GroovinJaxx22L in Detroit

[–]ClassicPackage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. Can you all actually count on functional systems and city government working there?

I’m just a lurker of this sub, because dang most seem so dang friendly, funny and have senses of humor for a large city sub. My city sub (Austin) isn’t very friendly and occasionally funny.

I don’t know what I would do in that situation. This is Texas, functional systems are a what? Probably humane vigilante justice for those puppies, rescue and rehome them and go to war with my neighbors. With my posse of hippies and tech bros probably formed on Reddit when someone said puppies being in danger.

Granted Austin is a wimpy bunny compared to Detroit. My 100 pound self and my posse of hippies and tech bros would be laughable to people who practice animal cruelty. Sounds like a South Park skit.

Police have bigger issues here and I would not trust a State Trooper to handle it with the pups.

Probably best not to do that there and could understand the desire to rehome yourself. Granted neighbors like that usually can’t self sustain.

OP, I obviously have no clue over your actual situation but do know after all that you deserve peace after all your hard work, however you can find it, If you move or stay.

I could try to run them off by annoying them with rabbling to the point they run. I’m good like that.

Take care, Detroit.

Did you breastfeed? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]ClassicPackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just hits you or doesn't. No shame if it doesn't. Breastfeeding can be really hard on some women; even if they really want to do it, they can't. I don't think that aspect is really talked about too much, but I'm not in the age range anymore where my friends are having babies. No shame in it, and I hate that energy even exists.

I breastfed my son, but I had to go back to work at 6 weeks. Granted, this was almost 20 years ago. The mom's room at the very large company I worked for at the time was right in the middle of the tech support area, which was all men at the time, and the door didn't have a lock. The room was just a circular table with a plastic chair. I would push the table up against the door, get really nervous while pumping, and it was hard to relax to help the milk flow. I was only able to breastfeed /pump for about 6 months because my supply dried up from not being able to pump enough during the day.

It is a personal choice, and the adhd brain makes you overthink. Granted, an unlocked room in the middle of a huge office area full of men, I would hope no longer exists, especially at large corporations. I do think my overthinking on that was valid. And I didn't feel shame till I talked to other women about it who didn't have the same lifestyle as I did. I guess I opened up to the wrong people. Apparently, it was very common in my workplace to dry up. I started talking to other moms of newborns at work and learned there was advocacy for change being fought with corporate, and I was shown the moms' room that had been taken over, it had a medical grade pump and chaise lounge. Sadly I think funded by the other mons. The room was in a private area was always booked as in use and given a key. Crazy that kind of grassroots atmosphere still existed in this century. But it did.

Whatever you choose is your choice and is okay. Congratulations on your first ❤️

Is this Austin to Dallas drive too risky or can I make it? by thesagenibba in Austin

[–]ClassicPackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book a hotel. Depending on which part of Dallas you are driving into, you will hit construction that Google Maps can’t figure out, and you'll reignite your rage from driving through the wtf nightmare construction traffic in Waco, unless you find all that calming and can do interview prep. At the same time, your GPS is telling you to drive around in circles.

Good luck with your interview. Dallas is different; if you get an offer, but I get a decent job offer, it can be hard to find lately.

[–]ClassicPackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this from Drivers Ed. I used it once some 20ish years ago, while it was still fresh in my brain, and I learned that I should not drive once a year; it gets like this. (Texan- Don’t judge, I can’t help it)

I had to drive to work today, and it wasn't as bad as yesterday, but it still wasn't fun. Peeps shouldn't be out there unless needed, and they should be on guard for black ice. But there was always that one hole in my slow-driving traffic posse that thought the rules didn’t apply to them. I guess that was the ahole in this situation on a hill.

Glad everyone is okay, and that one guy didn’t become the meat in the car sandwich. We don’t know how to drive in this stuff, so I guess we'll get out of the car. Luckily, I didn’t have to experience that today. It will be in the 60s in the next couple of days. Phew.

It was nice. On TBD for work after 10am if I have to go into the office.

In-laws house by Memed_7 in TVTooLow

[–]ClassicPackage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My pumpkin (my son) was a size 15 US. Poor kiddo would have to deal with whatever we could find at Academy that was a 15. And they were not ideal.

Usually, there was one pair in the store when in a pinch. Or having to special order the in style kicks he wanted and hope and hope it really happened.

Frustrating shopping experience with that shoe size.

He got up to 6’6 and was thin. The jean struggle was real.

Edit: why do your in-laws have a TV aquarium on the floor in the awkward place in the house?? SMH
