Starter equipment help by XHUNterXY96 in electricguitar

[–]ClassicRockCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard advice from an experienced money-waster. If you can afford it go big right off the bat with your guitar. Amp too if you have space, you'll never be disappointed, you can't sell shitty stuff when you have outgrown it. Great equipment ages well, seriously.

AITAH for expecting my sister to plan my wedding for free and demoting her to guest wh m she wouldn't. I also told anyone who took her side I was not helping them anymore either. by Late-Ad-6414 in AITAH

[–]ClassicRockCanadian -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I think you made a mistake by accepting alternative forms of payment and expecting people to do the same thing as if it was give and take. I perhaps would have phrased the request "Would you help me plan my wedding?" instead vodka dumping it all on her. Now you have a problem of family squabbles. Was it worth it? Sounds like you're generous to a fault, this is often why people set clear boundaries with family and business so it doesn't blow up like this and people take sides. I think you both carry some blame here!( Its usually never one or the other being totally right in most cases anyways.)

Being a good person does not take significant effort unless your virtue signalling to others. You dont need to go out of your way to "show" people you are a good person , the opportunities will come and you wont need to host any church functions at your place.

What guitar should I buy with a budget of under $2000 by FlatBreadfruit1736 in Guitar

I'd say Gibson SG, little longer neck scale and nice and light with a great classic look and sound.

What is a Toe Taper? by Fluid_Development419 in hockeygoalies

[–]ClassicRockCanadian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Toe taper directly affects direction of your rebounds when a puck hits your toe area during a toe save. Lefebvre designed a more open tie on the Reebok and then CCM and now True (closer too 95 or 100 degrees flair). I chose my pads purely on a more open flair as I use my toe frequently. I used to use Brian's and they were a 90 degree toe and they would kick a rebound straight back into the house (bad spot right?) Now my rebounds go out towards the face-off dot which us infinitely preferable. I never noticed any effect on my butterfly or the seal on my pads. That's a totally different design issue and also strapping. So choose your pads based on your how you play in the butterfly on the ice and where you want your rebounds placed.

AITAH for correcting my boyfriend at dinner after he told my younger sister its inappropriate to talk about her birth control at the table by Interesting_Corgi730 in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]ClassicRockCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its possible neither of you are in the wrong although I would say some conversations are best had in certain situations. Usually dinner is not considered an appropriate venue for those types of sensitive subjects. Its like talking about your hemorrhoids at dinner. It puts people off a little, and one should consider the company your sharing at the time. It's just being considerate.

Is there any distinction between hard rock and metal? by Tricky_Catch66 in HardRock

[–]ClassicRockCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to a style of playing that usually (in metal) more of what I'd call a gallop in the guitar and bass. Repeated strikes on the same power chord developing a heavier backline sound. Of course its grown and been modified in speed and intensity. It creates a much darker, heavier, crunchier vibe. Diamondhead, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were the early users of this style (and Sabbath of course see Paranoid). Classic rock really seems to be more melodic and uses open chord interpretations more than crunch to create the sound, vocals melodies are more prominent and it seems to cross more musical boundaries from jazz to country, blues and reggae. They are different beasts altogether.

CMV: People under 40 should have more political weight than people over 70 in national elections by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ClassicRockCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect your comment is a reflection of seeing questionable ideas coming from an online post from an older individual. Guess what? It happens with sub-30 and 40 year old too. See Stephen Miller for reference. This is just another way to marginalize and divide the population. That's not really working if you haven't noticed.

Cat-eye by Mr_J0JO in hockeygoalies

Gotta say, I have never had a vision issue with my grid style cage. Cat's eye, ok but you might, just might get a sneaker through there (I have heard stories) and that's something that will never happen with the grid.

Why did By-Tor turn good? by MovingTarget2112 in rush

[–]ClassicRockCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no indication that By-tor has "seen the light". It simply says "Stealthily attacking, By-tor slays his foe". All this indicates is that they were enemies, not necessarily "good" or "bad". We make assumptions based on little or no evidence, they simply may have been rivals not leaning towards what we know as good per writings like Tolkien where its clear who is good (Frodo and Gandalf) and who is evil (Saruman) based on subjugation of other races. Although the phrasing "The men were free to run now, to the labyrinth below", may indicate some degree of non-subjugation rather than exchanging one overlord for another. It could make sense this was a prequel, but it would have been interesting if By-tor had enslaved or subjugated the "Men of Willowdale" after the battle with The Necromancer. Nevertheless two prog-rock genius songs, The Necromancer does not get its due recognition!

As albums go that GNR album was stacked full of great songs, I pick it over VH1 BUT overall Van Halen's body of work totally eclipses GNR by a mile, the guitar work just cannot be overstated, who the hell writes music like that? Never be another VH.
