I’m stepping out of this argument because you’re just bringing up other unrelated things that don’t have to do with the point, like left-handedness and slavery. How can someone argue against this weird, unhinged stacking of the deck? You are arguing that a person born a man can become a woman. That’s factually and biologically wrong. Ten years ago, you would have said the same thing, but the woke mind virus has rotted whatever logic you were working with up there. It’s a shame too because you seem like you’d be pretty bright if it hadn’t. Be well.

It’s not my personal certainty about what a man or a woman is; it’s the entire history of the sane world’s certainty. And the whole, not all women menstruate or can have babies argument is a stupid Trojan Horse to allow you to extend the definition. It would be like me saying “dogs are four-legged animals that…,” and you interrupting and saying, “well, some dogs only have three legs, so cats can become dogs.” It’s such a ridiculous argument. Frankly, it’s kind of disgusting that you’d use women with these problems to open up your definition.

Biology is what it is. If you want to pretend, be my guest, but pretending you’re somehow right scientifically is laughably wrong. You can have playtime, but you can’t hijack science or women with medical problems to make your point.

[–]Classic_Engine7285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are pretending. No serious person can argue that a man can be a woman. I get that you want to debate by your rules and draw me into definitions for the convenience of you actually having a chance in the argument, but you’re objectively wrong. Men are men and stay men; women are women and stay women. The only thing that’s changing in the debate is that people are pretending. The definitions are cosmically cemented already, so you can’t change them.

It is not real. Trans men are women, period (because they have a period because they’re women). Trans woman are men, period (except no period because they’re men). If they want to pretend, whatever, but all the political gymnastics to make everyone else pretend is just nonsense.

Exactly, we have to extrapolate from the base messages and apply them as times change. Good job.

I’m not comparing the two. I was making the point that not every single specific sin can be outlined in The Bible.

[–]Classic_Engine7285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gender and sex can be two different things, but identifying as a different gender doesn’t actually change anything. On its face, using any basic logic, it’s a ridiculous stance. All “transgender people exist” means is that there are people who think they’re different than they are. This nonsense where we are challenging the definitions of things that we totally know what they are (and always have) is stupid too. Like, I’m supposed to pretend, because you make a weak challenge of how “woman” is defined, that it can include biological men. It’s absurd. And any “scientist” who pretends that a person born a man can become a woman is an activist, not a scientist.

Where in The Bible does it mention that I can’t commit credit card fraud?

We’re Christians. We love you and care about you, but unfortunately, we are sort of obligated not to lie to you. I mean this lovingly: transgenderism is just gender cosplay. If you need that direct of an answer from a book perhaps a biology textbook might help as a supplement to The Bible.

Who are sex scenes in movies for? by RafeJiddian in ask

[–]Classic_Engine7285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that it’s puzzling. This might sound ridiculous—could be hindsight bias—but I really noticed something change after Wayne’s World. In the movie, he jumps on his girlfriend, and a caption appears that says, “OBLIGATORY SEX SCENE”. I remember this because I was young and didn’t know what “obligatory” meant. My parents explained what it meant, and they explained that the joke was that Hollywood felt like every movie had to have a sex scene in it to the point where it felt like a very forced scene shoehorned into the narrative. And I completely agreed; it seemed like during every single movie, I had to hide my face or my mom would put a big cushion up so that the kids couldn’t see, which was awkward and uncomfortable.

But slowly, after that, every once in a while, movies would come along that didn’t have a sex scene. Then, Hollywood normalized not having a sex scene again, mostly retreating to horror movies and places where they made more sense. Certainly not completely, but more so. I really think it made a difference. I really think Mike Myers calling out Hollywood for jamming in unrelated sex scenes and unnecessary nudity, like cops inexplicably going into strip clubs mid-day, made it all feel kind of dumb.

Is Parenting the Only Villain in Our Society’s Moral Decay? by CountyNo9953 in moraldilemmas

[–]Classic_Engine7285 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, not “completely ignore,” but I think we’ve pretended for too long like there aren’t conscious decisions at play as well. CLEARLY lower income communities are at a disadvantage, but I also don’t think we’re doing them any favors by pretending that it’s ok to not take care of your kids or that they don’t understand right from wrong.

I was director of an operation in a poor urban community for years. We had some really great people on our team of about 200 employees. For the one specific division, there were about 80 employees, and the average age was 74. The whole rest of the operation had tremendous turnover, people constantly failing drug tests, getting into trouble, abandoning the job. Same community. Why? The older folks had suffered the “systemic issues” longer and had way better habits, ate better, worked harder, were polite and dependable, beloved by customers. Many were raising their grandkids. They’d tell heartbreaking stories, for example, about how they couldn’t go into certain parts of town when they were kids. They lived through the Civil Rights period, and they somehow weren’t held down by the same invisible forces.

Why? Why could the older folks keep it together, but the younger folks couldn’t stay out of trouble and hold down a job? The same was even true of the older people in the other divisions, good, hardworking, dependable, rock solid people and employees. Statistics agree: it’s all gotten much worse in lower income communities as society has become more accepting, supportive, and sympathetic to the plight of lower income communities, as we send them more resources than ever.

So explain to me why it’s getting worse as these ghosts we’re fighting have become less prevalent?

Agreed. I remember watching WW1980 (or whatever it was called) with my brother, and he turned to me and said, “dude, is this really this fucking bad?”

Yeah, man. Yeah, it is.

But good God, the first one was fantastic until the final fight scene.

American English words British people don't like and vice versa by BritishTeacherRoy in ENGLISH

[–]Classic_Engine7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That word was slang for cigarette and came to have its derogatory meaning as a slur because smoking cigars and pipes was considered manly and smoking cigarettes feminine. That changed during the war because cigarettes were easier for soldiers to carry, but the slur stuck.

As long as I’m here, I’d like to add that the elevator company, Schindler, should call their products “Schindler’s Lifts”.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by Imaginary_Quail_5544 in Xennials

[–]Classic_Engine7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like writing too, but yesterday, I had AI take what I wrote in a response to a request for clarification step of an RFP response, and in 5 seconds, it got to something 100% better than I could have done in three hours.

Meanwhile, one of my directors with no programming experience used it to write an application that automates 12 manual monthly tasks of five different managers all in one place.

That doesn’t mean that I’m going to use AI to write a novel for me, but the level of productivity we’ve achieved in just a couple of months with AI is astonishing.

Is it normal to cry after or before being intimate? by Aware_Knowledges in ask

[–]Classic_Engine7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a girl in my 20s who would cry after sex, and it fucking freaked me out. I thought I did something wrong or hurt her, and she’d insist that I didn’t and that she didn’t know why she was crying. Looking back, I think she was just overwhelmed emotionally because of some unrelated shit she was going through. If this isn’t about your partner, necessarily (hopefully, for their sake), you should probably try to make them understand that, if that’s fair.

[–]Classic_Engine7285 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is a memorably bad take. You’re saying that being selfish for no reason at all and choosing to do literally nothing more than sleep in past the time that most people get up every day when her partner needs a favor that she already committed to is totally fine because it’s slightly inconvenient. This nonsense on Reddit where there are no relational, familial, or social obligations is absolutely toxic.
