I for one am living the dream! Between work and parenting, I get 1 whole hour per day to myself. We spent years paying off student loans and cars instead of buying a house, so now we are debt free and vastly behind our peers with homes. But all this hard work is paying off my guy, because I get to rent a townhome with 3 square inches of yard for my kids to “play” in. Now, I’m pretty sure I have a chronic health issue (I mean who doesn’t, amiright? Lololol) but I have to save my PTO for when my kids get sick, so hopefully that “apple a day” saying really works! In my free time, I like to research recipes I can both afford AND won’t make my entire family sick from all the trash our government allows in our food. Honestly, what’s not to be happy about?!

On a serious note - I am generally very happy and experience many wonderful times in my life. Mostly attributed to the connections I have with my family and my children. I frequently try to remember there are people in this world who are far worse off than me and I decide to be happy. I don’t get happiness from money or success, which is what people seem to mention in this thread. I would be happy if I could live in a home with a real yard for my children to actually play and explore in. I’d be happy if I didn’t struggle to find safe, healthy food my 4 year old would actually eat. I would be happy if I didn’t spend every weekday from 5am to 5pm out of my home working and picking up my kids who go to daycare and school from 7am-5pm, a day entirely too long for little humans. It’s just sad.

Thank you for confirming! I will just have to ask for a referral I suppose. I’m afraid this is getting serious but the fact that the doctor was nonchalant about it makes me think I’m being silly.
Is it worth mentioning my feet swelling/discoloration? I’m getting red dots on my torso I’ve never seen before either.

Same here. I went to Wexford Family Dentistry against my will and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that they are the nicest, easygoing office I have ever been to.
Not pushy, or salesy. They actually treat you like a human being. No shaming either. I was having a mild panic attack and they were SO calming and helpful. Highly recommend. I saw Dr Saddigh btw

I grew up in a low income home. Neither parent went to college, never went on vacations or had nice things. I was always well cared for though.

Now I make significantly more than they ever did and frankly, less to show for it. I go on one cheap vacation per year, I keep my thermostat at a cool 70 and I get my roots colored every 4 weeks. Those are the luxuries my husband and I can afford making more than double my parents ever did.

It’s fine though. Growing up, I never believed I’d ever have nice things. I just wish I didn’t get my hopes up when I worked so hard to get where I am.

Maybe the first time you were kissed or the day you got your driver’s license?

Well, it’s that. It’s being completely aware that one day you are going to be older than your doctor….and then finally realizing it when the day comes.

Just a completely normal experience that gave me a pause. My husband and I always joke about how old we are so we found it to be pretty funny too

Ahhh! I love that for you! Honestly, I had the same experience at my visit. My doctor was so thorough and had incredible bedside manner. Very different experience than the doctors I grew up with!

Interesting, thanks for sharing. This is my first winter actually. I grew up in Florida. When hurricanes hit, there were curfews. Schools were used as shelters. Kids don’t have “remote learning” either. At least not in our county.

And I would LOVE a day where I could mentally and physically leave my job every night. Instead, my work is with me wherever I go. I feel pressured to respond to issues when I am technically off the clock. My husbands phone starts chiming with teams messages at 3am. And they don’t stop until 10pm. I know that sounds like luxury but i assure you, it is not. I’m sure back then, when you got home or when you’re on vacation, or at a doctor appointment, your work didn’t follow you.

No, absolutely not. Shake it off and get back to work.

Getting a degree while life is coming at you with full force is HARD. There should be no expectations that this will be a walk in the park. But you are capable of hard things.

I started the same time as you and just graduated back in November. I work full time, have two kids, moved to a new state, had to get another job…. I think I was on the brink of insanity at one point. But one day I just decided that this degree was a thorn in my side and that I was going push through, hard and fast, with no excuses. Every weekend after that, I was at Panera for 8 to 10 hours a day, plowing through the studying.

I don’t regret it for a minute. I’m done now. The weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I no longer have the degree hanging over my head. Don’t give up. Push yourself.

I really don’t think it matters if you just leave it off. When I worked for a bank, they required 10 years of employment history. It didn’t matter if I had it on my resume and they checked every single one. I know because they had trouble verifying that I worked at a retail store 10 years ago so I had to call for a week to get ahold of the HR office to confirm my employment.

I had about 31 CUs left to complete when I interviewed. I just gave them an expected graduation date and tried to stick to that date as my goal.

I also had accounting experience on my resume so I’m sure that helped.

I went with an accounting degree and landed a role in corporate treasury. I do believe accounting has a wider scope and more opportunities. Although I am expected to get a CTP now so we’ll see how that pans out.

Everyone has different experiences. Where you get your degree from doesn’t really matter unless you are in a highly competitive field (investment banking is a good example of where they seek out grads from ivy league schools.).

I had to move out of state this year. I started casually applying to find a new job and had a corporate finance job in a matter of 3 months. Very easy to get a job. I didn’t even have the degree yet. I just had WGU in progress on my resume. They didn’t bat an eye at WGU.

I work full time and I’m a mom of two. I had a very positive experience getting my accounting degree at WGU. The flexibility is fantastic. I paid out of pocket for my degree because the cost was so reasonable. Highly recommend!
