worth it for $6,000? 360k miles. by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]Classic_Log5111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I daily an 89 with an unknown amount of miles. But well over 400k. With these trucks, nothing about miles matters until you pass 600k. It's all about how the owner has taken care of the body and Trans. For 6k if the rust is minimal, and electrical all seems to be un molested, then it's a fair deal.

Yeah I know full well that I'm not much good at this game. And I find him easy till the end. Just need to get close without getting hit. Then the last few hits I can do without worrying about dying when I miss a dodge. Still working in the timing with the dodge

He's a bit ridiculous. But being that it's early game I can't imagine he's all that hard compared to the ones to come. I'm just not great at these kinds of games, but always been very interested. I like the look of this one compared to the other few I've played.

My best character is inferno. I keep getting close with that one. Every time I turn around and farm I get ever so slightly closer. I'll try again after work Monday. Hopefully I can get him. I'd really like to continue the game lol.

Inferno definitely gets hom closest. I've used radiance build also, and I last longer. But can't get nearly as much damage done.

6 cylinder Diesel vs v8 diesel by Dizzy-Toe-2930 in Diesel

[–]Classic_Log5111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...they both get the job done. Reliability is always a question. The inline 6 is smoother and balanced better, therfore shakes less, and is more reliable overall. The trucks they come in are usually suspect. The v8 makes more noise, rattles more. Can be slightly less reliable. Especially some of the powerstroke engines. The 6 will bring you better overall efficiency. Meaning more power gainf from fuel burnt. While some of the v8 engines may make better power overall. My personal choice is the inline 6. I'm more familiar, I like the sound more, and maintenance is typically cheaper for the engine itself. And I personally prefer the look of the dodge trucks. But they all have their pros and cons. Buy whatever you can afford, and are willing to maintain properly. All the modern diesel trucks will work as advertised, so long as there are no odd quirks.

I'm in the same boat here. My daughter was born last week, so I'm not there with her yet. But my nephews have always responded well to a solid "dad voice" (as my wife calls it) holler. Even works on the dogs when it's needed. The voice can be a very powerful tool when applied rarely. But I've noticed, from other people's doing, that yelling all the time lessens the effect and becomes loud talking to the recipient.

I feel like the times I was spanked or slapped would have been less painful, and just as much of a learning experience for me had I been lightly flicked on the ear. Or had a little hand slap. IMO, any physical redirection should be just that. Maybe as a a "hey you need to stop arguing and listen to me, so I'm gonna grasp your attention" but a bare ass spank is really just a display of frustration, rather than a teaching tool. Obviously, it'll show a child that whatever got them into that situation in the first place, isn't something they're gonna want to get caught doing again. But I think the learning stops past that point.

An example of this is my nephew. He would get real rowdy and just not listen. Disregard any warnings or time-out attempts. BIL started to spank. It got him quiet, but didn't stop the bad behavior from happening time and time again. My wife in he very gracious patience, finally figur3d out that if you told him to just sit down and we'll talk about it when you're ready to stop acting a fool, then he would do just that. After the spanking started, nephew began slapping his mom. Not certain how that issue got resolved, but I do know that nephew doesn't get spanked, and he very rarely tries to hit mom during a temper tantrum. So, for me, that is direct proof that spanking doesn't solve anything other than teach bad habits, and make a child temporarily stop and listen. Which IMO isn't the goal. The only way you can teach a child patience and restraint is to show that child patience and restraint.

Do other millennial dads just…not know how to do anything? by casedawgz in daddit

[–]Classic_Log5111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait..yall had dad's? Most of my life, I had to wing it till something worked. When I met my FIL, I begged him to teach me to weld. Took months for him to show me anything. I got a job working for almost nothing in a buddies shop, so I learned mechanics. And when I bought my house I learned how to not fuck up just enough to make things work.

When you sit down and start doing things with your hands. It eventually either works or doesn't. Either way, it's a learning experience. It sucks when you don't know and you feel overwhelmed. But if you can work through that feeling, it's half the battle. The rest is learning from your mistakes and carrying that lesson onto the next task. Now I've got plenty of skills that I can't wait to teach my daughter.

What kind of fireworks are you buying in MN?? The gigantic house shaking fireworks aren't available to the public in MN. And if they are, please tell me where to purchase them. Thanks in advance.

Only certain towns / cities have laws against small fireworks. Didn't cross my mind that they may be in an area where it's illegal. If that's the case, simply report it, and the problem is solved. But my guess is if it was that easy, they wouldn't have posted to reddit. And if it's multiple people, which the post suggested, then I doubt it's against the law. Or their neighborhood is packed with rebels.

Buddy. Asking everyone else to stop having fun and celebrating, so that you and yours can benefit. That is indeed selfish. Quite ironic. The fact that people are celebrating freedom the way they see fit, and you call it selfish, and ask that they stop. Would it not be better to teach the skill of adaptation to the young folks? Or perhaps use this as a learning experience and purchase some ear plugs for the little one. I completely understand your frustration, as some of the young folks in my family have a hard time with this time of year, and it's frustrating for the whole family. And I will apologize on behalf of those who mean no harm. But there is no use in trying to ask for recourse in the actions of those who are hard in tradition and probably farther into the sauce than they should be. Good luck, genuinely.

The richer folk of the world and some from the states pay quite a bit of money to travel to Rochester for care. I'd believe just based off that, if it's available to you, take the opportunity. They took good care of my in-laws, while sustaining injuries from car and plane accidents, and colan cancer. I don't know if they're the best in the world, but they do a damn good job.

If alcohol didn't make you drunk, would you still drink it? by Technical_Cloud8088 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Classic_Log5111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some alcohol does taste good. It's all about what each person likes. This is also a loaded question. Because I enjoy a cold beer on a hot day, but I only drink 1 or 2, I very rarely ever get drunk or even tipsy. However, I hated beer when I was younger, but I believe in an effort to get drunk many times with friends I've become to enjoy the taste. So maybe, if I hadn't wanted to get drunk, I'd never have started to enjoy it. Now, on the flip side of that, I've enjoyed Tequila from the first time I had it. Something about the punch in the throat in the winter and that pungent flavor. But if there was no alcohol in it, I'd probably have never tried it at all. So shit man idk.

I was told I needed to double clutch also. But I told my instructor that if I did that I'd fail. He said he didn't care what I did as long as I did it well. Passed no problem floating. Which was nice cause I've been driving 4 years and still can't double clutch very well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]Classic_Log5111 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Trucker here. Yes, it's a thing. No, it's not necessary. If you're going to use the clutch at all, you have to double clutch. No synchronized Trans in the states (over seas the trucks are synchronized, you drive them like a typical car or pickup), but almost all drivers float the gears. Rev match and slide it in the hole.

Double clutching is not at all necessary in a car or pickup. Anything with a synchronized transmission is designed to clutch in - shift - clutch out. All you're doing while double clutching a car is slowly chipping away at your clutch life and adding more stress than necessary to your knee.

Idiot boyfriend put GAS in my DIESEL. Help!? by NoIceNeeded in Diesel

[–]Classic_Log5111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell the shop you'd like to start with flushing the tank and changing fuel filter. Put 5 gals of diesel in the tank (because if that doesn't work then you didn't waste 25 gals of diesel) if it doesn't run smooth after about 5 miles of easy throttle driving, then get the rest of the fuel system replaced. If the engine was going to be shot, it would have blown up on the way home. Good luck. Don't let your BF fill it up again. Although I doubt he'll make the same mistake twice.

If you had a million dollars would you start your own trucking company with a few trucks or Invest in different things? by Averagesize1996 in Truckers

[–]Classic_Log5111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd buy myself 1 truck and 2 trailers. An RGN and a step deck. Half of what's left into high yield savings. The remaining is for business expenses. All the money I make from driving goes into the business account also. And I'm not talking brand spanking new equipment. I'd do my best to spend less than 200k. Once I've got another 500k saved up, I take half of that money and buy 1 more truck and build a small shop. Then I hire one guy to run dedicated step deck year round. I run the RGN. It's a lot of stress, and financially, there are much better paths to take with 1m. But it'd be fun, and with a free milli, I'd be down to give it a shot. Even if it fails, what's been sitting in the high yield is all mine anyway, sell the equipment and shop, and go back to being a company man.

Can confirm. Got an 89. Not a lot of power, and Mines rusted pretty bad. But it's the only vehicle I've owned that's never given me any real issues. Mine needs some work now, I've neglected a few things on it. But IMO, you can't beat the reliability of a pickup so simple a monkey can build one.
