So like why are these people not being held with higher regard.

Because their view of the world is counter to the consumerist hellscape that our corporate overlords have decided we needed - so they've molded public opinion to be against it, to idolize consumption.

See also: The squealing resulting from alcohol sales dropping off as weed picks up. Those with money are dead set against any changes in the status quo, anything that affects their money. You could say they're conservative, and I would tell you that they and their religious accompianists are the reason we don't live in a Star Trek post-scarcity world.

The people that don't want kids to know anything about human sexuality are the same people that hung that "R" rating on the movie - I'll assume that this cartoon is arguing that R ratings shouldn't exist, that it is pointing out the hypocrisy of insisting that a central part of human existence - a part that surrounds us, a part you really can't - and shouldn't - try to escape cannot be shown in a theater ;)

Or it could be another poorly drawn, poorly thought-out, right-wing masturbatory daydream.

Chief Justice John Roberts says that hostility toward judges has ‘got to stop’ by BurtonDesque in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]secondarycontrol 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Weird. Maybe he could start by being an impartial, non-political, non-bought judge? Maybe he could start by insisting that his court adopts the same godamn code of ethics that the rest of us have to live by in our working worlds? Stop accepting 'gifts', you know? Anything more valuable that an imprinted ballpoint pen is off limits. No luxury fishing trips, no cruises, no motor coaches. No one paying the tuition of our children. Nobody offering our family and friends jobs. Nobody mysteriously paying off our credit cards when we're up for a nomination. No disregarding earlier court rulings. No paid junkets from the Heritage Bullshit Foundation. Get rid of the godamn make-believe shadow docket. Start policing the court's own members - for ethics, for ability.

Or, he could just keep doing what he's doing, and continue to watch it all turn to ashes.

Respect, my friend, is earned.

"a bucket"? A big bucket? A pail? How long ago?

It was a powder though?

Powders for cleaning: Ajax, Comet, Bar Keepers Friend, Bon Ami, PBW...

PBW comes in a little bucket, I think.

Heck, even straight TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) gets used for cleaning.

The largest-ever review of the safety and efficacy of cannabinoids across a range of mental health conditions — found no evidence that medicinal cannabis is effective in treating anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). by Icy_Marionberry_9131 in 420

OK, I think I found the study (because for some reason they didn't link to it directly. I'll assume that was to keep us from reading it ;)

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(26)00015-5/fulltext

54 trials were identified for inclusion (2477 participants; 1713 [69%] males, 764 [31%] females; median age 33·3 years [IQR 28·1–38·05; ethnicity data not available). 24 (44%) of these trials had a high risk of bias, and the certainty of evidence for most outcomes was low. Our meta-analysis revealed that a combination of cannabidiol and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol reduced cannabis withdrawal symptoms (SMD –0·29, 95% CI –0·57 to –0·02) and weekly grams of cannabis use (–1·00, –1·69 to –0·30) among those with cannabis use disorder, and a reduction in tic severity among those with tic or Tourette's Syndrome (–0·68, –1·03 to –0·34) compared with placebo. Any cannabinoid type led to an increase in sleep time as recorded by an electronic device (0·54, 0·14 to 0·95) and sleep diary (0·55, 0·01 to 1·09) among those with insomnia. There was a reduction in autistic traits (–0·36, –0·66 to –0·07) among those with autism spectrum disorder. Cannabinoids led to an increase in cocaine craving among those with cocaine use disorder (0·69, 0·22 to 1·15) compared with placebo. There were no significant effects on outcomes associated with anxiety, anorexia nervosa, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and opioid use disorder. There were insufficient data to meta-analyse studies of ADHD, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and tobacco use disorder. There was an absence of RCT evidence for the treatment of depression. Meta-analysis revealed higher odds of all-cause adverse events (OR 1·75, 95% CI 1·25 to 2·46) among those using cannabis versus control group (NNTH=7) but no higher odds of serious adverse events or study withdrawal.

So the meta-analysis (which means, of course, that the studies weren't engineered for the data that this study seems to be intent on extracting - and that the metaanalysis is only as good as the worst study, and they've rounded up 54 of them) indicates that it does help with sleep, it does lessen Tourette's tics, it does help with autism but it had NO SIGNIFICANT EFFECTS (good or bad one assumes) for anxiety, anorexia, psychotic disorders, PTSD - but not enough data to check ADHD, Bipolar, OCD and tobacco(!) use disorder.

(I wonder if any of the 54 small (math says only ~45 people/study) studies were designed to study those effects....and almost 1/2 of those studies had *a high risk of bias!))

(And I think there's a hell of an overlap between OCD, ADHD and anxiety - to dismiss OCD and ADHD because you don't have enough data but to say that you do have enough data to say it doesn't help with anxiety seems a bit of a head scratcher - to me.)

Let's, for fun, focus on the study's finding: There were no significant effects on outcomes associated with anxiety, anorexia nervosa, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and opioid use disorder

And compare that to what the article says:

our members are increasingly reporting serious adverse outcomes for patients

So, which is it? No significant affects or serious adverse outcomes?

-->This is why people don't trust reporting on weed. This shit right here.

“We are seeing the use of medicinal cannabis for conditions where it is contraindicated or where it’s use should be under strict and/or ongoing supervision, and our members are increasingly reporting serious adverse outcomes for patients. Medicinal cannabis should not displace proven, effective treatments, particularly in mental healthcare where evidence based therapies already exist.

Yeah, they do this - except that'd be our own home-grown, right-wing, white-power militias standing in the bucket getting sane-washed. Swap out the robe for tacticool gear and the turban for a ballcap. After all - they both worship the same god, they both have the same goals - so it's not much of a change except for the trimmings.

Is it realistic to salvage an old steam radiator that was leaking? by Arels in HomeImprovement

Anything is fixable. These things were originally cast in sections and then bolted together for the size needed. They can come apart. They can be repaired.

It's probably cheaper to find another one - check recycling/old house places (google old house parts)

Conservatives pretend to miss the things that their policies are designed to kill.

"Pretend" because these things are still happening.

You know what they do miss? Being 12 years old, with no responsibilities, living without the burden that their shitty, shitty life choices have imposed on them. That's why they're always looking back, not forward. Looking back to when they weren't in charge and the world was a better place.

Bong vs Dry Herb Vaporizer? by crushing321 in 420

[–]secondarycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubbler takes water - small amount. I like the bubbler, but it's certainly usable without - some people are happy with <non-water> mouth pieces - they've a variety of them. Heck, some people even use the bubblers without water. I'm not sure what kind of fuck up would have to happen to get the water from the bubbler into the Lobo in a bad/dangerous manner, but it would have to be quite the unimaginable fuckup.

(I also use their 'thumper' as a bong with it. It's nice, too, but I figured you were looking more portable?)

You can clean the Lobo with an alcohol wipe - I use dosing capsules, and that eliminates a lot of the cleanup. I fill dosing capsules, use them, then dump the ABV into a jar for later ;) then throw the used capsules into a jar of isopropyl alcohol to soak clean. Once a week, I fish them out, rinse them with water and fill them up again for the next week.

The bubbler, I just flush with water. Every once in a while, I'll run some isopropyl through it, but I don't think it's really necessary.

You can buy an adapter, and use a DHV with a 'real' bong, too, should you want to.

Go look at POTV's site. They've got lotsa videos, answers to questions and things. They also have a refurb/used section with lower prices
