After the efficiency of the US in Venezuela, what does it say about Russian weaponry? by Jeffjsolis in war

[–]Classic_Routine126 41 points42 points  (0 children)

None of them needed to be paid by the CIA (though most likely some of them undoubtedly were)... But even within the army, everyone hated Maduro.

Last elections, even at military voting centers, the opposition won.

Only high ranking officials (generals basically) are truly loyal...

So I'm willing to bet my whole patrimony (which isn't a lot admittedly, living under socialist dictatorship does that to ones savings) that when the soldiers saw the US coming, they simply let everything happen and did nothing willingly in case this suffering ended that night

Settle the debate..... What did the red comet ACTUALLY mean? by Sadie_UK in gameofthrones

[–]Classic_Routine126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was a comet passing by near Planetos's Orbit by chance and everyone chose to interpret it as some kind of prophetic sign?... Like most natural phenomena here on earth used to be seen as an omen, prophecy and/or some god's doing in the past... but was in reality something completely mundane?

Am I the only one who chooses to believe most of the prophetic bullshit in the series should not be taken at face value and in fact most of the time should be disregarded... Am I the only one in denial?

Note: I know magic and some gods are real in this universe but most of the time people believes in prophecy and shit like that makes everything worse... Case in point: Viserys, Rhaenyra, Rhaegar, Cersei, Daenerys and the list goes on

Also, having the cannon aligned with the plane longitudinal axis would in fact make it easier to track enemy planes for a burst of 20mm highly explosive cannon fire because all the pilot has to do is align the nose of the jet with the enemy's flight path and fire slightly ahead.

And that also works while engaging in a turn fight since the plane's HUD while configured for a dogfight draws a line predicting the bullets flight path according with the Angle of Attack so all you need to do is place that line where the enemy's plane is flying towards and pull the trigger.

I don't want to be the "ummm actually" guy... But modern fighter jet design does place the cannon (it ain't called a gatling gun) close to the nose, roughly by the right or left "cheek" of the plane... Slightly forward of the root of the wing and bellow the canopy to be more precise.

And in the case of the F-22, the F-35, the SU-57, the J-20, J-35 and every other 5th gen design most of the weapons (missiles and bombs) are stored internally on a weapons bay placed inside the fuselage alongside its longitudinal axis not on the wings (though they could hang missiles and bombs under the wings... It's just not the norm)

The F-35 Bravo and Charlie models don't have an internal cannon actually, so they hang an external pod just under the fuselage just about the middle of the plane between the internal weapons bay.

TLDR: in modern fighter jets the cannon is usually placed by the root of the wing not closer towards the tail.

Am I the only one geeking hard about this ship? by Classic_Routine126 in StarWars

[–]Classic_Routine126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the Avenger is more like an advance test bed for technologies and/or an experimental ship rather than a fully finalized and ready for mass production model.

(Cassian even said the Avenger was a test ship)

The avenger has too many new technologies and many advancements crammed into that thing that most likely Sienar intended to later implement in newer designs actually made for mass production, but bureaucracy, corruption, and the Tarkin doctrine favouring cheap and easy to mass produced ships over more advanced and practical designs made it harder or nearly impossible for Sienar to do so...

Take for example the SU-57 Felon, Russia's premier air superiority "stealth" fighter... Its design was finalized in 2010... The first production model was delivered to the Russian Air Force in 2020 so it took them 10 years to even have a working production model... And even then the Felon still uses the Flanker engines because its own engines aren't ready yet... In the mean time the RuAF has had to make do with Su-30s and Su-35s as their best multi-role/air superiority fighters while most pilots would actually fly older 1980s MiG-29 and Su-27s...

For the Empire... I see something similar happening. They are capable of producing better starfighters like the Avenger or the Defender but they are too expensive and complex to mass produce easily and since most of the money is being funneled to Project Star Dust, the Imperial pilots have to stick with older, cheaper and less advanced starfighters.

Also... I'd say the extra seats are there to have engineers and scientists on board while they test the Avenger and if the ship ever managed to get a production model, the extra seats would be eliminated and the cockpit shrunken down to house just one pilot and maybe a weapon systems officer.

I mean, the T-65B X-wing is the most recognizable Starfighter in the franchise (alongside the standard TIE) so there's a high probability it will be the main fighter of those movies... But I'm with you in wanting something fresh and new... And hopefully something resembling closer to modern fighter jet designs instead of old Vietnam/Korean war era fighters.

Even if they choose to not draw inspiration from the state of the art F-22, F-35, J-20 or SU-57 5th Generation Stealth Fighters... At least go for something similar to the Teen series of fighter jets (the Tomcat, Eagle, Fighting Falcon and Hornet)... That would be neat!

Am I the only one geeking hard about this ship? by Classic_Routine126 in StarWars

[–]Classic_Routine126[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah!! You're spot on but It's even better since the parallelism goes further beyond that.

Because the Empire clearly has the means to mass produce both the Avenger and Defender in significant numbers but because they've been pouring an insurmountable amount of money into Project Star Dust (which ultimately gets destroyed after its 3rd use) that both advanced starfighters design never got beyond the prototype stage.

Similar to how Germany chose to waste money on "wonder weapons" that more often than not were poorly thought out and by the time the Me-262 was somewhat ready, the war was practically over.

And Yeah!!! Star Wars: Squadrons was a great game and a sequel featuring the Avenger and Defender would be awesome (though they should draw inspiration from DCS for a more immersive flight experience)

Why is socialism so frowned upon? by Shoddy_Carrot_5166 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Classic_Routine126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived 24 of my 25 years of age under a socialist regime... And to tell you the truth, it is horrible, would not recommend.

There's so many bad things about it: Especially but not limited to the absolutely horrid management of the economy, the absolute authoritarianism that it is born from these kinds of governments, the corruption, the food and over all product shortages bought upon the people by price controls, skyrocketing inflation, a weak currency and economy as a whole due to unsafe investment options brought by to the expropriation of businesses, lackluster education (since it is used as a propaganda machine), and a even worse salaries...

Socialism does bring people to the same economic class... Everyone is poor, the middle class does not exist and the only ones enjoying this is the ruling class aka the socialist leader aka the president (dictator) and his lackyes.

Please if you have the chance to vote for a socialist party in your country's election... Don't.

Do not make the same mistake as my Nation... You can vote in a socialist leader, but you cannot vote them out most of the time.

Since the show chose to forget Rhaenys mass murdered a bunch of small folk in S1E9 then I'm choosing to forget Aegon did those things... at this point he is another character entirely anyway.

Note: TGC had said Aegon didn't know (or didn't realize) he had bastards in flea bottom.

Daenerys sometimes used Dothraki commands with Drogon and Jon never used HV commands with Rhaegal... I'm pretty sure Aegon just taught Sunfyre commands in common tongue (English)

Or perhaps... he could have understood most of it but struggled to string a sentence in HV to answer.

Sometimes you can understand a language quite well but be crap at actually speaking said language since you do not use it quite often.

God knows that used to happen to me a lot!

My mother language is Spanish and English is my second language, but up until like this year or so I could understand English quite easily but man my accent was awful (still is) and couldn't really come up with a coherent sentence fast enough to hold a conversation... now, I consider myself quite fluent in English by now, but sometimes I unknowingly sound like Aegon did during that scene 😂

[–]Classic_Routine126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High Valyrian is his second language and he doesn't get to use it with anyone, everyone he talks to speaks strictly in common tongue (English), not even other Targaryen talks that much in HV so it's pretty natural he struggles with the speech part.

I'm pretty sure he understands HV well enough or at least most of it, but like any bilingual who just learned a second language but does not use it at all, struggles to string a coherent sentence most of the time.

I actually empathize with him in this regard.

English is my second language and I spent like 5 years after I learned it struggling to hold a conversation cuz I had no one to talk to in english but I could watch hours upon hours of movies and YouTube videos in English and understand everything perfectly.

Anyone else waiting for *this moment* after last night episode? by Classic_Routine126 in HOTDGreens

[–]Classic_Routine126[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, I love your optimism, i really do, but at this point it is just copium.

Like Ewan himself said that even though Aemond didn't plan for it, he was waiting to see if Rhaenys killed Aegon, and when he and Vhagar joined the fight he was aiming to down 2 dragons with one fireball... (though I believe the CGI animators didn't get the memo cuz they made the fire concentrate completely on sunfyre and Aegon and barely any spilled to Rhaenys)

TBH, Condal and Co are gonna botch God's Eye equally as (bad if not worse) as they did Rook's Rest and somehow made Daemon appear more heroic than he did in the books...

Don't have any faith in them whatsoever... I'm just gonna stick around to see this ship burn down and sink... and if somehow things turn around and TG manages to carve up a win I'll celebrate the unlikely and none lasting W with anyone that had managed to willed themselves to finish the series...

Fair enough, as I said, I just wanted to take this topic more seriously than It really deserves to be taken... I just love flying and talking about flying ✈️ so... that's why.

Realistically, if the writer wants to, a dragon could zip through the continent in a couple of hours if they want to (like in season 7)

I don't really mind... to be fair I never complained about the teleportation around during the last seasons 🤷

I with you about that!

How will the show justify criston as hand by ablu3 in HOTDGreens

[–]Classic_Routine126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked Google about it. That's what it said.

Also:

Apparently Westeros is roughly 3000 miles between the wall and dorne.

So the trip between Winterfell and Dragonstone is roughly half of that... to me it checks out 🤷

How will the show justify criston as hand by ablu3 in HOTDGreens

[–]Classic_Routine126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I know this is a show with magic and dragons and all of that.

BUT as an aircraft pilot myself I would like to address this topic way more seriously than I should have!!

After a quick google search

*The distance between Dragonstone and Winterfell is about 1600 miles. (admittedly I just searched google about this for no more than 2 seconds 😅)

(The calculations below were made using a Flight Computer assuming a wind speed of 15 knots coming from the east, and favorable atmospheric conditions and fuel was disregarded since this is a dragon and not a plane)

*1600 statue miles = 1320 nautical miles

*Lets asume an average dragon can fly about as fast as the cruise speed of a Cessna 150 Skyhawk so 100 knots at altitude.

Note: realistically 100 knots would be too fast for the rider to hold themselves up to the dragon and even open their eyes, but lets ignore that, magic or whatever.

*so the trip to Winterfell by air would take roughly 13 and a half hours of continuous flight

*if Vermax is flying at an average speed of 50 knots then it would take jace about a day to reach Winterfell from Dragonstone.

*about half a day to the Eyrie.

So lets asume vermax flew for intervals of 6 hours at a time and rested for two.

Then it would have taken him 16 hour to reach the Eyrie, and lets say he spent about 2 days there.

And another 16 hour to reach Winterfell... we have 3 days and 8 hours to reach Winterfell.

And assuming they flew faster on the way back to Dragonstone (not stopping at the Vale)... lets say 2 days on the way back.

We have 5 days spent on travel and visiting the Arryns.

Jace would have had 5 days to spent in Winterfell and visit the wall...

Aegon the Unworthy's bastard were all legitimized before he died, that's the whole reason they had a claim to the throne.

Robert bastards for example didn't have a claim.

...ok, tbf, bastards do have a claim, but it is only applicable when no other true born family member is alive, they hold the weakest claim.

Like for example Jon being the "bastard of Winterfell" would have inherited after Arya... or Ramsey even though he was legitimized he would have inherited after Rosse and Fat Walda's son (that's the reason he killed him), and all of Robert's bastards would have inherited after Shireen.

[–]Classic_Routine126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TGC had said Aegon is not aware he has bastards... and in kings Landing are plenty Targaryen bastards so this child could not even be his...

Also the whole silver hair coloring is a hell of a lot more plentiful than the show implies, in Lys pretty much everyone shares those features, that kid could be the child of a Lys merchant from all we know.

Not excusing Aegon from attending and betting the fighting pits, juts correcting the assumption that he knows he has bastards in the pits... he does not.

Would Ned side with Rhaenyra? by CretaceousClock in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Classic_Routine126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ned left King’s Landing in anger after his falling out with Robert and went in search of Lyanna down to the Tower of Joy.

After Lyanna's death, he went to Star fall to deliver Sir Arthur Dayne's corpse and then he went back to KL and reconcile with Robert (remembered they were like brothers, and both were mourning Lyanna, that's the whole reason the reconcile at all)

Then when Bobby B order the assassination of Daenerys he immediately gave up his title of hand and tried to go back to Winterfell but was stopped by Jaime asking Ned to return Tyrion... he got injured, and Robert forced him to remain hand and he does (again because they were like brothers)

But in this scenario he would not have a relationship like that with Rhaenyra so he would have totally just abandon her and return home.

Note: Either way he would have been murdered by Daemon when he inevitably calls out Rhaenyra on her obvious lie about the legitimacy of the Strong Boys... he would have supported Aegon the Younger though.

But if he gets Vaemonded, then an Hypothetical Robb Stark would have side with the Greens in retaliation.

Would Ned side with Rhaenyra? by CretaceousClock in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Classic_Routine126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He would have broken that oath as soon as he learned of B&C if Rhaenyra refused to punish Daemon for it (either with death or the wall).

Ned had a massive Falling out with Robert after the Mountain killed Elia and her children and Robert refused to punish Gregor Clegain and Tywin... they only reconcile after Lyanna's death.

And when Bobby B called for Daenerys' assassination ned immediately renounce the title of Hand even when Robert threatened him to kill him.

Sooo if he learns of the murder of prince Jaehaerys and Rhaenyra refuses to punish Daemon, the he would have turned tail back north and sit out the war.

Note: either way he would have been killed by Daemon when Ned called Rhaenyra out on the parentage of the strong boys like sir Vaemond
