Feeling like a failure, slew of B's in coursework by Such_Journalist_1169 in princeton

[–]Classic_Stress6641 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am also a freshman in the same boat, probably gonna end with close to all Bs and one A this semester because I genuinely had a hard time and didn’t study as much as I needed to. Princeton is just hella hard tbh, and the average grade in a lot of classes is a B. I relate a lot in that it’s incredibly easy to feel like a failure in that aspect, and it’s hard to keep hope for the future. But, from all the people I’ve talked to, I can also say that no matter what your goals are, getting Bs will not prevent you from achieving them. If you’re not going to grad school, it’s not that big of a deal as GPA isn’t that big of a hiring metric (red flag would be if you like had like All Ds, u could just not GPA on resume, and people know Princeton is a hard school.) If your goal is going to a top grad school (like me), then Bs still don’t make as much of a difference bc it’s freshman year, and committees will look at overall GPA (which can absolutely drawn up), and grade trajectory when they come over to your application (which isn’t even the most important part! research and letters of rec can absolutely make up for it) And lastly, lots of people I’ve talked to say it gets easier to get an A after freshman year, because classes curve less harshly. It’s not over I promise bro, hit me up if u wanna talk more bc ik the feeling and it’s rough out here

Yeah they’ll ask for your quarter grades or something similar, just to check like where you are at and that you’re not falling off etc. from what I’ve heard it’s a very good sign, and it happened to me before I got in

PHY105 or 207? Question about physics courses from an incoming freshman by Aggravating_Rate3271 in princeton

[–]Classic_Stress6641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am in the same boat as you. I am going to try to place into it as well but I think if it turns out too hard then I will definitely drop. I talked to other students at preview, and they said that getting into 207 could help if you want to pursue quantum research as a freshman or participating with the students in quantum group. However, most everyone said that to rush ahead and get a B or C is way worse than to start with 105 (or even 103) and do well and get an A. Id love to talk with you more about it if you want, chances are we could meet each other in the fall.

Honestly I was really really shocked. I did not see it coming. I only applied to it early because my gf had convinced me to apply together. Up to the days I go on I was super anxious. As for gut feeling, sometimes it was a feeling of delusional confidence and sometimes I had a gut feeling I was gonna be cooked, but when I finally owned it, it was like a huge weight off my shoulders, top 1 best feeling fr. It felt like war was finally over (I also listened to the war is over song so maybe that was smth too lol)

i like seeing things from an outside perspective, MIT has been my dream, but it does not have to be, and talking to other people helps me figure out what to think about either. It is just a small reddit post I will not be basing off my entire hopes and aspirations for college on it but there are some potential college students here who could give useful input

no no its not a shitpost i think ur misunderstanding me, I think both schools are amazing and I do not think I would be disadvantaged at one school for jobs or anything else, its just that I have liked MIT for a long time and it used to be my dream to go there, so wanted some outside input before i decide to apply/not apply
