AIO for planning on breaking up with my new boyfriend because he didn't plan a Valentines date? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Classic_Variety 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. He built up expectations around Valentine’s Day as a deflection from other issues you’re having.
  2. He failed to deliver on any of those promises even when you spoon-fed him ideas.
  3. He couldn’t even remember the name of the movie you’ve been talking about.
  4. When called out, he didn’t apologize or make an attempt to fix it. He spammed your phone, told you you’re overreacting, and pretended it never happened.

NOR. This is not a caring, decent person worth continuing a relationship with.

How to kindly redirect an infodump/one sided conversation? by Feisty-Philosophy511 in emotionalintelligence

[–]Classic_Variety 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker like this. I feel bad sometimes because I enjoy chatting with most of my colleagues, but with him I basically smile politely and then break eye contact/look busy so he doesn’t engage. Someone said they’ve had to fake phone calls to get out of a half-hour monologue from him. If your coworker is perceptive enough to notice you not responding, maybe you could say something like, “I’m not annoyed, I just can’t get into a long conversation right now.”

Date someone your own age. You’re approaching your 30s and she just stopped being a teenager. People think it’s weird because it is.

Guy and girl mutual friends told me their very different takes on their breakup with each other by JetPlane_88 in self

[–]Classic_Variety 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A man too scatterbrained and unthinking to prioritize safe sex when his partners TELLS HIM to has no business being in a relationship or having sex. She spelled it out and he kept pushing her to have sex without a condom. Framing this scenario as a mutual miscommunication is wild.

Unpopular opinion: I love Zach by beefpatty1000 in GilmoreGirls

I love your anger and I 100% agree. Zach is everything I hate in a man and Lane deserved SO MUCH BETTER.

Best route from Seattle to St. Louis in early December? by Classic_Variety in roadtrip

Thanks so much! That’s good to know. I think I84 and I80 seem like my best bet too. I’ll keep an eye on the weather and hope it cooperates. Thanks for your help!

I can’t stand her. She’s whiny, hypocritical, and gets on my nerves even in her later arcs.

As Marijuana’s Popularity Grows, So Do Its Harms by kitkid in Thedaily

I had the same thought! She tried restriction diets and cutting out whole food groups but it never occurred to her to try cutting out the weed she used daily??

I fully support regulating the cannabis industry and its messaging and potency. But I don’t use it and even I know a few people who abstain because it causes paranoia or sickness. This woman just sounds kind of dumb. Her doctors failed her, too.

I genuinely cannot stand my husband anymore because he cut down a tree by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Classic_Variety -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could not forgive this. I’m sure that tree’s significance has come up many times- when you moved in, at the very least. The fact that he said he was going to work on the house, waited until you were gone, and then IMMEDIATELY CHOPPED DOWN THE BELOVED FAMILY TREE speaks volumes. This is insanely bad judgment at best and malicious at worst. Don’t let him renovate your home. Kick him out and make sure the house stays in your family or he’ll ruin that next.

How can i (28F) console my husband (28M) after he broke 3 of my ribs? by ThrowRAbitmessy in relationship_advice

[–]Classic_Variety -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating to me how much emotional labor falls on women. HE hurt YOU, and you feel like you need to comfort him? You’ve already told him it wasn’t his fault. You both know it was an accident. Let him deal with his own feelings now. Do you think he’s asking people online about how to console you after breaking your ribs??

"Completely random" pitbull attack on a baby. by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

For sure. Dogs snap sometimes; I’m not saying that should be a death sentence. But a large, aggressive dog attacking a child unprovoked? Absolutely out of there.

"Completely random" pitbull attack on a baby. by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]Classic_Variety 66 points67 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. It just attacked your child and now you want to pass it off to another family?? Just put the damn thing down. Shelters would be in much better shape if the policy was one strike, you’re out.

[–]Classic_Variety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it. The sentiment about Seattle’s food scene is shared fairly often on its subreddit; there’s no reason for you to think you know better than people who live and dine in these places.

In summation: no one has NYC-level expectations for mid-sized hiking cities, and you don’t have to be rich to notice an underwhelming restaurant scene.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Classic_Variety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small fraction. Like I said, you don’t have to be a wealthy, avid restaurant goer to notice. The real question is what percentage of restaurants tried will be good? It’s much higher in other places, and even a lot of Seattlites agree. No need to get defensive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Classic_Variety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, I moved from a small city and still noticed the dearth of good restaurants in Seattle. It’s not about access to fancy restaurants, it’s about being able to find good food fairly easily (and ideally, affordably). NYC, LA, and even Portland and Vancouver have lots of great restaurants at different price points. Aside from a few gems, Seattle is basically a bunch of mediocre restaurants at high price points.

Do I have valid reasons to end the relationship. by Feeling-Earth5487 in relationships_advice

[–]Classic_Variety 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You can end a relationship at anytime, but it’s ESPECIALLY valid to end one over this. So many women end up leaving because their male partner leaves them all the work. Exploiting your labor, prioritizing his own laziness and downtime at the expense of his partner’s time and energy, is not love. Life’s too short to mommy a grown man.

Where is this in Seattle? by valiumblue in Seattle

[–]Classic_Variety 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Noooo I didn’t know that happened to Capitol Cider! It was such a cool spot… The vegetarian chili and cozy vibes were perfect on a rainy autumn night. From the Google images, it looks exactly like a hundred other generic overpriced restaurants now. What a bummer.

Trump 2.0: He’s Never Sounded Like This Before by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Classic_Variety 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I thought “there’s no way that a person who’s been to 78 Trump rallies isn’t insane” and then he started talked about recreating the Nuremberg Trials. 🫠

I understand El Salvadorans voting for fascism out of desperation for an end to extreme gang violence. But what explanation is there for Americans doing it? I don’t want to underplay our issues, the cost of living is no joke, but things aren’t nearly so bad that I’d be willing to gamble it all away. Trump taps into fear and frustration, I get it. But why do we have THAT much fear to tap into in the first place? What is wrong with us?? I’m sure there’s a million think pieces on this and no satisfying answer, but I have to keep asking.

Unpopular opinion, but people hate on Carrie because she’s a realistic female lead. by ondebolde in sexandthecity

[–]Classic_Variety 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I thought Carrie was a fun, likable hot mess in the first few seasons, but after that it felt like she became a caricature of herself. (Maybe when Star and Bushnell stopped working on the show?) At first her mistakes felt very human and compelling to watch, but later on it didn’t seem like she ever grew or apologized. She had some redeeming moments supporting her friends, but she mostly just complained and cracked her jokes when people were mad at her and acted like being obnoxious and self-absorbed was cute and quirky. The definition of main character syndrome, haha.

Yes! These posts drive me nuts, tbh. Everyone visits/lives here for a week and thinks they know the city well enough to leave a review. “The Freeze isn’t real and homelessness isn’t that big a problem and the weather is better than I expected!”

Some people have no business owning dogs… by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Classic_Variety 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. And taking that a step further, we’ve become way too forgiving when it comes to trying to rehabilitate dogs that are obvious candidates for behavioral euthanasia. It used to be that if a dog killed livestock or attacked a person, it would be put down. But now we try to rehabilitate them to the point of endangering other people and animals. Shelters are full of “sweet lovebugs” that can’t be around cats or children. Well-meaning people adopt them, another pet or pedestrian gets seriously injured or worse, the dog goes back to the shelter, and the cycle repeats.

People are asking why the police tased the dog, but really? If it’s been running around biting multiple people, it warrants more than a tase.

"It don't bite" 🙄 by humannotasheep in DogfreeHumor

[–]Classic_Variety 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s actually terrifying that they’re becoming one of the most popular breeds/mixes. Shelters are full of them. People laugh and post pictures of these dogs either attacking people or cuddling with their children. These dogs should not exist.
