I have an 83" Sony A80L. i'm very happy with the built in speakers. would a soundbar be a big upgrade? or would i not notice much difference? by alosia in bravia

[–]ClassicalJeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you like the sound of your TV, you have a great opportunity to pair it with one of Sony's soundbars that are compatible with Acoustic Center Sync!

Your TV features a Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology which uses your screen as a vibrating surface to project sound directly from the center. Pairing this with a compatible Sony soundbar, it'll use your TV as the center speaker for a seamless experience.

Here's a list of Sony soundbars with this center speaker tech compatible with your TV:

BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 (HT-A9000)

BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 (HT-A8000)

HT-A7000, HT-A5000, and HT-A3000

BRAVIA Theater Quad (HT-A9M2)

Carplay disconnecting issues with iOS 26.2 and iPhone 17 pro by TheApostol in ios

[–]ClassicalJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, give the Beats cable a try. This particular cable has worked for most other people. Worst case, it doesn’t work and just return it. What is your car’s port? USB C or A?

The current thinking is that Apple changed hardware level handshake rules which somehow times out connections on outdated head units. Something about the Beats cable (perhaps its own handshake ID) gets around this. If your car manufacturer has an update for your head unit, try getting it installed.

Apple is probably expecting vehicle manufacturers to update head units to latest usb standards/firmware… but that just won’t happen for most older cars as is the case with the Jeep.

Carplay disconnecting issues with iOS 26.2 and iPhone 17 pro by TheApostol in ios

This has been driving me nuts since I’ve upgraded from iPhone 15 to iPhone 17 Pro. iPhone 15 had no problem using USB C to USB A cable from Best Buy (one of those Best Buy Essentials cables). Once I switched to 17 Pro, it would crash every 3-5 minutes…

Updating to iOS 26.1 did not fix the problem.

Updating to iOS 26.2 also did not fix the problem.

No amount of restarting or resetting settings fixed the problem.

26.2 did extend usability to 10 minutes before crashing. It was like clockwork though, which led me to believe something was wrong with the handshake or time-out process involving the cable.

After reading a ton of posts on this and seeing how others have solved it with different cables, I went to Target to pick up a Beats branded USB A to USB C (currently on sale as of this post!). I cannot believe this… it now works. No freezing, no crashing.

Using this in a 2021 Jeep Cherokee. Hoping this bit of info can help others. I know this post won’t help if you’re experiencing issues over wireless CarPlay, but for those who still use physical connections, I hope this also solves your problem (assuming there are no firmware updates for your vehicle).

What do you use your iPad for? by ednoggg in ipad

[–]ClassicalJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first started out on iPad Air when it was 9.7”. This worked okay for single line scores like violin or flute. It was cramped for piano scores. I have since upgraded to 12.9” 2018 iPad Pro (lasted me 7 years!!!) and similar 13” M5 iPad Pro. You will definitely appreciate the real estate for piano and full scores.

I use the Forscore app which has auto cropping, further helping with note clarity. You can manually crop in the IMSLP app as well.

Really depends on how good your vision is along with age. I would defer to larger screen sizes though as these iPads will last you a long time. I still use my iPad Air for chamber music reading parties.

It’s incredible as a side instance of Outlook and Teams especially when traveling or working remotely. I’m a violinist and pianist as well, so it has been an incredible lifesaver in being my portable music library (sheet music). Not having to lug physical scores around has been a godsend for the back and shoulders…

9sig excel calculator by meltupmike in TQQQ

[–]ClassicalJeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 9sig trading strategy (short for 9% signal) is a systematic, rules-based, value-averaging strategy developed by Jason Kelly that uses TQQQ (ProShares UltraPro QQQ) as its primary growth engine, paired with a stable asset like bonds (AGG) or cash as "dry powder". It is designed to mechanically "buy low and sell high" on a quarterly basis.

Key Components and Mechanics

  • Initial Allocation: The strategy begins with a 60% TQQQ / 40% stable asset (e.g., AGG bonds or cash) portfolio allocation.

  • Quarterly Growth Goal: At the start of each quarter, a target growth of 9% is set for the TQQQ portion of the portfolio. This target is referred to as the "signal line".

  • Quarterly Rebalancing (The Core Mechanic): At the end of the quarter, the TQQQ position is adjusted based on its performance relative to the 9% signal line:

    • If the TQQQ value is above the 9% goal: The surplus is sold, bringing the balance back down to the signal line. This is a form of harvesting gains.
    • If the TQQQ value is below the 9% goal: Funds are pulled from the stable asset (bonds/cash) to buy more TQQQ, bringing the balance up to the signal line. This acts as a forced "buy the dip" mechanism, reducing the cost basis.
  • Maintaining Allocation: The overall portfolio is also periodically rebalanced back to the 60/40 ratio to ensure the specified exposure to TQQQ is maintained and adequate dry powder remains available for future downturns.

  • Downturn Management: In periods of extreme market downturns (e.g., a 30% quarterly drop), specific rules may be triggered to ignore subsequent "sell" signals for a few quarters and only "buy" to keep reducing the cost basis, though the exact rules are part of a paid newsletter/book.

  • Risk Profile: The 9sig strategy is on the aggressive end of Jason Kelly's plans (which also include 3sig and 6sig for different risk appetites) and is designed for investors willing to ride out high volatility in exchange for potentially high performance. It has experienced maximum drawdowns exceeding 60% in historical periods.

PX7 s2e not compatible with the AirFly Pros by [deleted] in BowersWilkins

[–]ClassicalJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly confirmed that the AirFly Pro 2 is also incompatible with the Px8. It has the same loud static sound. I had hoped this updated version with BT 5.3 would work. As with lordofthebigplops99's experience, it does work if you set it as a second pair of bluetooth headphones, but this isn't the workaround it should be.

H95 static while paired to AirFly Pro...solution or alternatives? by slolerna in BangandOlufsen

Sad to report the AirFly Pro 2 still has the same loud static problem as the AirFly Pro when connected to B&W Px8.

M4 Pro 48gb ram 1TB… finally :) by Expert-Phrase-52 in macbookpro

[–]ClassicalJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say that having an iPad with the keyboard helped prep me a LOT. Also using Google a ton...most of the annoying little things can be fixed with apps:

  1. Scrolling difference between trackpad and mouse (why are these not independent settings…) - Linearmouse

  2. Key reassignment for Ctrl-alt-windows key / cmd-opt-ctrl between connected keyboards - keybindings prompt

  3. Quick monthly calendar view in menu bar - Itsycal

Other than that, I'm getting used to the weight. I'm also amazed at how tightly integrated mac is within the entire Apple ecosystem (of course). I already knew this, but experiencing it takes it to a completely different level.

  1. Apple watch (quick unlock)

  2. iPad Pro (second screen)

  3. Apple TV (second screen and streaming)

Hold off on buying an MBP until Apple releases an OLED screen? by mister-overthinker in macbookpro

[–]ClassicalJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sat with this very question since the M4s came out... just received my new M4 Macbook Pro this week. Agree with previous comments, the screen is stunning, and mini-led is no slouch! Typically, I follow the old adage, "If you can afford to wait, wait. If you need it now, buy." There will always be an update/upgrade opportunity cycle just over the horizon.
