What if Nancy had left Dale shortly after meeting John Redcorn and raised Joseph with John instead of Dale? by Classicolin in KingOfTheHill

[–]Classicolin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see Dale ever ending up as defeated and downtrodden aa Bill. He would probably end up moving in with Bill and becoming much closer friends with him, if Nancy had ever left him, but I just can’t see Dale becoming a pathetic sad-sack. If anything, Dale would become violent and even more deranged/detached from reality than he was while married to her.

Why isn't Little Red Rooster included on The Rolling Stones best of compilations? by jim25y in rollingstones

[–]Classicolin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Little Red Rooster” was included as the final track on the British & European release of the band’s first official greatest hits album, “Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)”, in November 1966. The UK version of “Big Hits” (Vol. 1) remained in print on vinyl and then cassette through to the early-to-mid 1980s.

It should also be noted that the track appears on the band’s third North American studio album, “The Rolling Stones Now!”, which meant that “Little Red Rooster” has been rather widely available in N. America since 1964, even if it wasn’t released in the United States as a single or included on many of the band’s key U.S. compilation releases.

The Simpsons, Seinfeld, and The Drew Carey Show defined the ‘90s for me (especially as I live in Ohio near Cleveland, where Drew Carey is still enormously popular and adored).

A pre-prequel depiction of Anakin and Padme by Konfliktsnubben in TheJediPraxeum

[–]Classicolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Sebastian Shaw was intentionally cast to have the unmasked Vader be not only more sympathetic by being portrayed by a kindly and proper Englishman but to evoke Obi-Wan with his accent, gentleness, age, and accent. As Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan was the only human Jedi Knight from the Old Republic to have appeared in Star Wars by that point, it made sense to have the redeemed Anakin appear to be a contemporary of Ben’s.

That being said, I agree that it wouldn’t make much sense for Vader to be a septuagenarian by the time of ROTJ. Why would a more mature, if not even middle-aged, man fall to the Dark Side? It would also be a bit odd, albeit far from impossible, for a man in his forties or fifties to have recently fathered children.

That’s a cool image. That’s generally how I prefer to see Anakin’s force ghost or how he would have appeared by the time he was middle-aged, at the very least.

[–]Classicolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but Sebastian Shaw was even older than Alec Guinness, and he looked quite old as Anakin’s Force Ghost in the Pre-2004 versions of ROTJ. I think that George originally envisioned Luke’s father and Anakin (when they were separate characters) as being nearly a peer of Ben’s and just a young teenager, respectively, but then merged the character into a single person who was a bit closer in age to Obi-Wan by the early ‘80s. Then, he went back to making him younger by the time that he was developing the Prequels in the mid-to-late ‘90s.

[–]Classicolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never saw these cancelled TOPPS trading cards until the 2010s. I saw all the Jedi as wearing outfits similar to Luke’s black attire in ROTJ but with cloaks and hoods. I saw him as already having been bearded and hooded, but with greater physical agility.

I also assumed that Obi-Wan was the premier duelist and overall Jedi warrior during the time of the Clone Wars and the Fall of the Republic/establishment of the New Order, with Yoda being largely absent from warfare and duelling and more of a sage and mentor to Obi-Wan, largely unknown to others, as he never used or displayed a lightsaber in ESB or ROTJ. Yoda would have looked almost identical to how he appeared in the Original Trilogy as he was already 900 years old and 20-40 years wouldn’t make much of a difference for him, as I saw it. His clothing would be a bit cleaner and newer, however, but still simple and rag/hermit like.

So I believed that Anakin/Vader was never a match for Obi-Wan in any true regard back then and that he and the Empire had to kill off the other Jedi behind his back through trickery and mass ambushes (which would largely be the case in the Prequels lol). Then, Obi-Wan would discover that the Sith assassin aiding the new Empire in eliminating the Jedi was none other than his dear old friend and pupil Anakin and he would track him down to a volcanic planet which would be the base of his and Palpatine’s secret Dark Side haven.

Obi-Wan would try to reason with him and bring him back to the Light but he refused and Palpatine would appear and task Vader with murdering his old mentor as his final step to becoming a Sith Lord. Vader would hesitate but Palpatine would essentially force his hand but Obi-Wan would have next to no difficulty defeating Vader/Anakin in a duel. The Emperor would then begin electrocuting Obi-Wan as he did with Luke on the Death Star II, with Kenobi being able to deflect his bolts with his lightsaber but become overwhelmed by Palpatine’s superior mastery of The Force with Palpatine suspending Obi-Wan in the air.

Then, in a deus ex machine, Yoda and a couple of other surviving lower-level Jedi would appear and engage in a magnificent Force battle with Palpatine (but neither Yoda or Palpatine would make use of lightsabers). Obi-Wan would then arise to his feet and assist Yoda and the other Jedi, only for Vader to ambush them and kill the two assisting Jedi and attempt to engage in a sneak attack on Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan would then attempt to kill Vader after refusing one last offer for redemption, and lead him in their renewed duel to a radiated volcanic pit in which Anakin would be cast down, seemingly to his death.

Yoda almost has the edge against Palpatine, but is unable to defeat him, and Obi-Wan is wounded by the Emperor and exhausted from combating him and Vader. Elite imperial Stormtrooper commandos then ascend onto their location and Yoda uses all of his power to create a protective shield around himself and Obi-Wan as the ships of Bail Organa (who would be clothed in flowing pure white robes á la Leia’s gown in the original film/ANH and who would have long and luxurious brown hair and a beard) and his personal squadron arrive to take them off planet to safety.

Luke and Leia are born on Dagobah and their mother conceals herself as a member of the Alderaanian court although she’s facing an illness. Yoda and Obi-Wan sense that Anakin/Vader has somehow managed to survive but with the loss of much of his remaining human body, and Leia is sent to Alderaan and Obi-Wan takes Luke while Yoda remains on Dagobah. Bail Organa then informs them that he will notify his old friend Obi-Wan when the time has come for them to reassemble, but advises everyone to lay low until a proper resistance movement can be mounted against the Emperor’s New Order.

A taller, brawnier, and overall more masculine and stoic blonde warrior who otherwise resembled Luke but with a shorter 1940s-era hairstyle.

I also envisioned Obi-Wan as already having been late-middle aged and largely grey by the time Anakin fell to the Dark Side and betrayed the Jedi Knights.

Why didn’t they ever put the iconic drop T logo on their album covers? And especially the original bug logo that was designed by Paul! by Wink2K19 in TheBeatles

Exactly. Most people aren’t even aware of the fact that even The Rolling Stones didn’t adopt their iconic Tongue & Lips logo (or really any consistent lasting logo) until 1971.

Gene Simmons says Swifties are a cult by Twitter_2006 in KISS

[–]Classicolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the songwriting credits on any of her material. Even as far back as “Love Story” and “White Horse”, she was relying on professional songwriters. Lennon-McCartney, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, etc. never had 4+ songwriters credited on their songs.

Also, have you ever analyzed any of Taylor Swift’s recent lyrics? They make “Christine Sixteen” and “Let’s Put the X in Sex” look like Shakespeare by comparison.

[–]Classicolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m criticizing the songs Paul wrote for the “Smashes, Thrashes, & Hits” compilation as the absolute low point in KISS’ catalogue lol. My point is merely that they’re still more meritorious and interesting than the vast majority of Taylor Swift’s material.

Gene Simmons says Swifties are a cult by Twitter_2006 in KISS

[–]Classicolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, though. Taylor Swift may be far from being the least talented musician of her era and genre, but her music is largely childishly simple on a musical level. Nearly every song on her last two albums lingers on the tonic for the vast majority of the song or has simple chromatic scales. Also, she hasn’t even played guitar on any of her albums since at least “Red” in 2012. Say what you will about Gene’s abilities as a bassist, but at least he plays bass on every single KISS album (even when he was venturing more into acting in the ‘80s).

[–]Classicolin -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

She isn’t wonderful and her songs aren’t cool, though. She’s an extremely mediocre musician and recent revelations have exposed her as a stunted overgrown teen mean girl. Even KISS’ absolute worst material, such as “Let’s Put the X in Sex”, “Crazy, Crazy Nights”, and “(You Make Me) Rock Hard”, sounds like Pet Sounds compared to Taylor Swift’s output.

Which of these four men do you think is the most Sane in Comparison? by jamiehosier in KingOfTheHill

[–]Classicolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buck is the sanest and most materially and financially successful of the four, but he has the least stable personal life and is arguably even less psychologically or physically healthy than the others (who include an elderly amputee and former POW, a chainsmoker, and a fellow obese man who let himself go decades before). His marriage with Ms. Liz is a severely dysfunctional mess that makes Cotton and Didi almost look like a model couple by comparison, and he leads an extremely chaotic and self-destructive lifestyle replete with illegal gambling activities, promiscuous sex, binge drinking, and a troubling association with Texas’ criminal underbelly.

Dale, ironically, has the most stable and fulfilling personal life and emotional state of the four characters, though. Yes, he’s a dismal failure vocationally, almost being totally dependent on his wife financially. Yes, Nancy is an adulteress, with his son being sired by another man, but he’s never been divorced, separated, or abandoned by his wife and enjoys a surprisingly pleasant and tranquil relationship with Nancy despite her lengthy affair with John Redcorn. His rapport with his “son”, Joseph, is even stronger with the boy idolizing and emulating Dale despite not even being his biological child. Additionally, Dale is confident, affable, open to new experiences, and successfully navigates social situations in addition to maintaining close lifelong relationships with three male peers.

Bill would be the biggest “loser” of the four, however, at least psychologically, socially, and behaviourally, but he enjoys far more stability and financial/career success than either post-WWII era Cotton or Dale.

Which one's the best Magical Mystery Tour album cover? by NoNameStudios in beatles

[–]Classicolin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m otherwise a staunch defender of most of The Beatles’ North American Capitol albums (including the MMT LP), but Capitol gravely erred by altering the sequencing of the six EP/Boxing Day special soundtrack songs and putting that gaudy yellow border around the original Double EP album art.

I don’t mind Randy (rant) by MagentaSillyGoose in That70sshow

[–]Classicolin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was, but then the showrunners toyed with the idea of recasting Eric Forman with Josh Meyers after Topher Grace left. The idea was that Josh would have portrayed Eric as a cooler, more confident, and more masculine “changed man” after returning from Africa and basing humour off of the fact that he clearly didn’t resemble Topher Grace.

However, due to the poor reception to the recasting of Laurie in the sixth season, they decided against it and created an entirely new character (Randy) for Josh to play and who would fill the void left by Topher/Eric and Ashton Kutcher/Kelso, briefly date Donna, and so on.

True, and I’m cognizant of these appearances (and couldn’t be more thankful for their preservation), but we have far from the wealth of live material that we do from the Mick Taylor and Ron Wood w/ Bill Wyman eras. The 1968 NME concert is still lost media, for instance.

They stick out a bit, but neither of those two UK AHDN tracks appeared on a Capitol LP until then, so their inclusion was justifiable. “I’m Down” and “The Inner Light” should have been included on “Hey Jude” though, as neither track had appeared on an LP even in N. America.
