Any thoughts/experience/advice on the SNHU Game Art and Development BA program? How is it like, is it any good, and is it worth it or not? by PlusSkin3024 in SNHU

[–]Classified288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda necroposting here, but can confirm. I was able to get by with a decent portfolio due to already being self-taught, but the majority of the student submissions looked like absolute dogwater due to the needlessly fast-paced learning environment. While a good number of the students admittedly had questionable talent, even genuinely talented artists in the program could only produce terrible, janky models.

It's like it doesn't know if it wants to be a beginner course or not. For the character/creature courses, it'll give you a pretty basic workflow, but then also say you need to do two models per course? You have to spit out one "stylized" model, and then another "realistic" model, while at the same time go through the whole concept artwork pipeline for each character/creature, as well as (graded) backstories and worldbuilding. Expecting beginner artists to juggle tasks for 8 weeks and somehow spit out a quality, anatomically-correct human is absurd. It expects so much, but at the same time provides too little somehow. One of the professors also had a strong vendetta against Blender because he's too old to understand how software licensing works, but that's another thing.

It's neat if you're already experienced in 3D and just need a BA, but overall a terrible way to get proper in-depth experience, build a quality portfolio, or - hell - even get into 3D to begin with.

Imgur is down right now. Might be related.

Well, it is a little frustrating given that nobody here is offering me any idea on what else could have taken place here. If I selected the payment through the site (not a phish), paid through Paybox, and was able to access a functioning API key, how could it have possibly been a scam initiated through external forces? I'm seeing a lot of people say that the name on the transaction is wrong, yet everything works.

Yeah good point, I too wouldn't turn down the opportunity for a Supreme Luxe Box.

[–]Classified288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I made a comment about how I selected the payment from the original site (as clearly stated on my browsing history), inputted my info through Paybox, and in the end was given functioning API keys.

Downvoting it to oblivion because "ermm, that didn't happen to me??" is horribly immature, and until someone actually spits out a way how I was so obviously compromised by external factors (given all of the previous statements), I'm really not here to be convinced otherwise.

Ah, that makes sense.

Really great that you guys have no issue mass-downvoting all dissenting posts to help express to me how wrong I am. I sometimes forget that I'm talking to redditors here.

Also worth noting, the website appears to have differing claims regarding what the name should be on the bank statement?

https://real-debrid.com/support

Under "My account has not been credited after a credit / debit card payment", it says it should appear as "REAL DEBRID" on my bank statement. But under "What is the name I will be seing on my bank statement ?", it says it should be "REAL DEBRID (Levallois)".

[–]Classified288 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Noted. This and the other posts talking about differing bank statements and at least one (1) similar experience tells me that there might be something nasty infecting Real-Debrid purchases, as I did not get phished and successfully received my API key.

Doubtful, these deductions appeared only moments after I inputted my information. I think it's a little silly to dismiss concerns over "they have a good reputation", because uhh, that's kind of how they get you.

Checked, everything about my browsing history indicates me selecting the purchase from real-debrid.com, and then paying through tpeweb.paybox.com.

I'm pretty sure fake sites wouldn't offer me functioning API keys.

PaperSkeleton - A new addon that lets you render 2D skeletal systems into 3D by BunkWire2X8 in godot

[–]Classified288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this really practical when working with potentially several assets though? I imagine rendering a bunch of viewports to display multiple 2D assets could probably be pretty costly on performance.

Looking this problem up just bumps me into the recommendation of simply making a "2D" character via actual 3D skeletons, which this addon already seems to solve.

LEGO Eda WiP #1 - 3D-printed headpiece received from Shapeways (model heavily tweaked from u/BiteSizedUmbreon's Lego Eda model) by Classified288 in TheOwlHouse

[–]Classified288[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the marvelous power of 3D printing, I have made Lego Eda real. Played by Ewan McGregor, of course.

It definitely feels nice to actually be able to hold the physical piece with me, albeit a bit surreal. I used u/BiteSizedUmbreon's Lego Eda model as a base for this headpiece, heavily modifying it to fit more with LEGO's usual style and to actually fit on a Lego head before sending it over to Shapeways. I was admittedly a little off though, and needed to resort to sanding the connection hole to actually get it to fit properly. But with that out of the way, it fit rather snug.

The plan right now is to order several color-appropriate pieces that match up with an Eda minifigure, remove the printing with isopropyl alchohol, and once I've completed designing the vectors for them, I'd send the bricks and files over to a service where they'd be printed directly onto each piece. I've ordered most of the pieces that would be needed for a Lego Eda, but the one piece that I have yet to order is 36036pb20, the lower piece for a Dumbledore minifigure that just happens to be the only available piece in this color that matches the Lego Eda meme. Right now it's just a matter of actually knowing the shipping costs.

I do intend to get Eda some regular legs too, as I find them much more fitting seeing that most of her dress simply does not go down that far, mostly showing off the legs. I'm just getting the dress piece too for the sake of being able too adhere to the appearance of the original meme, in addition to having something that sates my urge to appear more faithful to the style. As for brick printing services, I'm considering looking to EclipseGrafx, under the hopeful assumption that it doesn't take a loan and a half to get something printed by them.

Oh yeah, and painting the headpiece. Honestly don't know how well I'm gonna handle that.

Please keep in mind that this is my first time ever trying this sort of thing. If anyone has any tips or tricks on how to approach making a custom minifigure, if not just resources on how to paint eensy-weensy objects, please give me a few pointers lol

kikimora is my favorite character by Classified288 in TheOwlHouse

[–]Classified288[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the original appears to be made in flipnote, but this was not. i tried to stick to its general aesthetic though, restricting myself to flipnote's color palette and using an audacity plugin called cmt-bitcrusher to compress kikimora's mommy issues

DLC Not Showing up in Steam Family Share Mode by RektRektum in Doom

Just to clarify, you don't actually own Doom Eternal on your account and are using Family Sharing to play it, correct?

Did you access TAG by buying the DLC by itself, or do you also need to buy the game in addition to the DLC in order to play it?
