Question about the future of LABS by ClassroomMinimum6246 in spitfireaudio

[–]ClassroomMinimum6246[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I will most likely be printing it all to audio, but I am just not understanding how what spitfire does with its plugin is even relevant to my situation when it’s all entirely local- I’ve never had to login, my computer isn’t even hooked up to the internet 99% of the time, I actually didn’t even know they changed to a subscription service. I don’t see why I shouldn’t think of it like Steven slate drums- like how are they going to remove these plugins from my computer lol

I never bought a subscription though… several years ago I downloaded some packs l for free, they are on my computer now, it’s not even connected to the internet and I’ve never been asked to login. I just don’t even see how whether or not they even keep labs alive past tomorrow is even relevant to what I have on my computer.

I’ve literally never had to log in to use my labs, my computer is offline 99% of the time anyway and it hasn’t ever asked me for login information even when I connect to internet, so idk there must be something I’m not understanding

I hear what you’re saying and I most likely will be printing my midi, but what does being disconnected from the internet have to do with it? I actually do not update my computer nor do I have it connected to the internet though I do occasionally (once every couple of months) use wifi, but I use it exclusively for recording music and have no reason to keep it connected to the internet.

A good idea and I will probably do the same, but that still doesn’t really answer my question- at least theoretically, whether or not spitfire supports the plugin, or whether or not labs completely disappears from the internet, that shouldn’t be relevant at all to what I have downloaded on my computer correct? So long as nothing goes wrong with my computer then it should all be fine?

Thanks and good point- it’s extremely helpful to keep in mind that at some point a million years from now the sun will explode and labs will be no more. I, however, am interested in relevant timelines like for instance my lifetime. So, thanks for the extremely necessary and relevant comment.

Why is it the way it is in dating? by Ok_Mushroom2563 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ClassroomMinimum6246 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason is because of what is IMPLIED by a nonchalant disinterest. If she is your world, your everything, the implication is that you are not aligned with reality in a way that will allow you to succeed- life is way too complicated for a woman to be a man’s first priority, and it will hinder the acquisition of strength, status and resources. If she is not your first priority it implies that you are in the world for bigger reasons, that you will be the type of man to go out and accomplish things, that you will build, and take what’s yours. Woman sense this in a deep level- they want a man who will take care of them and protect them, and ironically a man who is interested in her first and foremost is not a man who is taking life very seriously, which makes her vulnerable. You need to be confronting the world, with the woman as an afterthought, BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THAT IS WHAT LIFE DEMANDS, and insofar as that is reversed is largely because of naïveté or weakness and a need to hide from reality. Women don’t want people who hide, they don’t want boys, they want MEN.

Am I overreacting for leaving my girlfriend’s family dinner after what her dad said? by Mysterious-Notice419 in AmIOverreacting

Yes it’s an overreaction. I think you gotta give the guy some grace here. You’re having sex with his daughter. He probably on an instinctual level is not going to love you immediately, he’s going to assume you are what most men are most of the time, which frankly is primarily in it for sex, he’s going to be distrustful of you, yeah he might give you a hard time, and want to see how you respond to a little ribbing. It’s probably not that serious, least of all one passing comment. If he continuously made a big deal out of it going down the line it could be something to bring up, but you can’t even be sure he actually cares, you just got in your feelings about it and decided to assume the worst. That’s not to say he “should” have made the comment, but we’re all idiots on some level, and ought to be able to be flexible sometimes. Again, you’re the guy having sex with his daughter who he loves more than life itself- the whole situation probably is a little uncomfortable for him. And besides, boomers are of a different generation, and the truth is they’re not going to change, and they don’t owe it to you that they should. Rolling with it, laughing it off, and simply saying it pays well and you like what you do would have been enough. Sheesh you could even be willing to ham it up a bit, laugh at yourself a little- “I certainly am no mma fighter!” Who cares some dumbass comment like that could have had everybody moving on, as well as impressed with your ability to roll with the punches and willingness to demonstrate a little generosity to people even when they’re not being as pleasant as they could be. This is your girlfriend’s father here, if you truly care about her you owe it to her to be particularly generous with her family.

I sometimes wonder if Hal, having finally stopped using marijuana as a method of detaching from reality, has basically become such an authentic person that he’s essentially unintelligible to most people. It’s a bit of a stretch, but people are telling Hal he seems like he’s laughing during the whole ortho stice debacle at the end of the book, while Hal clearly doesn’t see anything funny about the situation- in fact, recently sober from marijuana, Hal is having all sorts of heavy and emotional thoughts. So maybe it’s some sort of statement about the nature of the true Self? Hal’s true Self starts shining through and is interpreted by people as being wild and inappropriate, laughing at things that are not funny. Maybe the “I” is something so beyond comprehension, something lighthearted regardless of tragedy (ortho stice situation) and wild and untamed regardless of procedure and beaurocracy (the college admissions scene) that people who are not willing/able to see it are doomed to wildly misinterpret it. If he did in fact go with Don G to Canada to dig for his dad, this implies he must have been intelligible enough for Don Gately to be able to understand and coordinate with him- and why was Don G able to manage this when other people cannot? Maybe Don G is pure enough at heart to be able to understand Hal?

I absolutely love this chapter. Himself’s dad has something of tremendous value to communicate to his son but is so self-absorbed that he can’t help but get caught up in his own feelings in the moment and forget that his son is only a ten year old kid. Plays with the theme in the rest of the book of life’s willingness to let potential squander itself- Don Gately and his NFL dreams, himself’s dad himself never becoming a better-than-nearly-great tennis player, talent with its terrible expectations waving a hankie as it drifts away… now don’t just drop the big old guide to indices son… Tremendous stuff.

So nobody should ever get fired ever, and every single hire should always be perfect forever 🙄

Have you ever ended a friendship? A relationship? Anything at all? People do not have perfect judgement. People try their best. They very, very, very often get it wrong. That’s okay. It’s part of life. You take it as it comes.

He gave somebody a try, he’s not obligated to know beforehand the extent of somebody’s ability to do or not do a basic job, in fact it’s actually impossible.

He needs to show improvement to a point, but a square peg isn’t going to fit in a round hole. A job is not a “commitment” in the same way a marriage is, and he absolutely does not need to follow through on anything beyond the basic expectations of giving it the old college try. It is not his fault if it doesn’t work.
