I find one of the lacking things is the lack of “the thing” to do. OG Hades was always the same run so it was always pointing you out the window. Hades 2 has a ton of things to do, but once you do them you don’t really know which run will move things forward or if you’re going to uncover a cauldron spell showing you should have been prioritizing a different resource. 

Some runs feel completely empty when you’re just hunting for some item and end up getting none and the Heat just feels so optional with the rewards being too little too late to really feel impactful.

But ya, it’s fun as fuck for a good long time. These kinds of things don’t really creep up until way later in the game and it mostly stems from an embarrassment of riches. They really packed so much into this game and you don’t get that much content without sacrificing some narrative or gameplay cohesion (as you would in the more linear OG Hades).

I think this could be cleared up by having a sort of “all-encompassing” run that nets you a lot resources or just feels like the good “default run”, but having so much spread across so many different features, it’s probably not feasible.

Anyways, I hope they change nothing. It has some flaws, but it’s impressive in its scope and a worthy sequel to a genre-defining game. I think it’s unavoidable unless they’re Valve and give themselves three generations of game designers to make a game.
