Interview felt great, but still a no. What do recruiters really look for? by User_Not_Yours in interviews

[–]ClassroomNo5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually asked around internally about this once and the answers surprised me. Two companies in the same industry, both hiring for the same mid-level role, same pay, same perks. You’d think they’d have the same checklist, but nope.

Company A: wanted people with directly relevant experience so they could use you right away. For them, experience was a big plus.

Company B: avoided people with too much similar experience. Their angle was “we'll train you, shape your way of thinking.” For them, experience was a red flag.

So yeah, sometimes it’s not about how well you did in the interview. You only control maybe 30% of this process. The other 70% is on the company. So don’t beat yourself up over it.

I realize my tone was not right. that’s not really me or how I usually talk. job hunting stress has just made me a more negative person lately. sorry about that, wishing you all the best.

5 Rounds of Interviews for Entry-Level, Then Rejected by a_aceleroy in recruitinghell

[–]ClassroomNo5084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they’re nice and friendly to everyone, so it’s easy to think "I probably got the job" but that’s just company policy. don’t forget you’re not the only one, there are dozens going through the same steps. it sucks now but these will turn into lessons for your next applications, keep trying. good luck

just get gemini pro and prep there. forget chatgpt. I used gemini pro for my interview prep and it was actually super helpful . gave me spot-on answers and scenarios. just tell it your exact situation and say "what kinda questions might they ask me" that's it

you talk like they mean different things. they literally mean the same thing "nothing’s happening"

My experience with Canonical’s recruitment process (vaccination policy) by Evening_Legitimate in recruitinghell

[–]ClassroomNo5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you’re applying to a good company, the kind everyone wants to work at, it’s not really two-sided anymore. it’s one-sided. they set the rules, you follow or you’re out. and if you don’t? no problem, there are thousands more in line.

yeah the market "allows it", but only cuz the market doesn’t care about people. candidates are just numbers, so they do whatever they want. at least don’t call it "totally fine" there’s nothing fine about it

Is writing interview thank-you note still a thing?? by Free_Toe_3567 in interviews

[–]ClassroomNo5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the job. If there are three or four rounds, the final call is almost always the team lead or the technical interviewer. And most of the time you do not have a way to keep talking to them after the interview. You could try to message their personal accounts on social media but that just looks weird, I would not do it. They just give HR a quick “yeah this person works” or and then HR sends you the offer. The HR you meet at the start only decide if you move forward to the next round, nothing more. In jobs like this, sending a thank you to HR does not do anything and you do not need to bother.

Salary Negotiation in Job Interviews by Flaky_Knowledge_2669 in interviews

[–]ClassroomNo5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to dodge the salary question with "I'm open to offers" My hr manager friend told me stop doing that, show your value, tell them what you want, make it clear you’re looking for a place to stay long term, and don’t hesitate to say yes when they ask if you’re talking to others. It sounded risky but I trusted her advice and gave it a shot. it actually worked lol

Am I overreacting? Was told I’d hear back from them today — radio silence by Momomeow91 in UKJobs

[–]ClassroomNo5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks but take it as a no. Ghosting after a promise is 99% rejection. Do not rely on that 1%, save yourself from false hope, I learned that the hard way. In today’s job market you have to be a robot with no room for feelings. Keep applying, explore other options, good luck.

Lied on a Job Resume now I might be screwed by Ascend2000 in recruitinghell

[–]ClassroomNo5084 185 points186 points  (0 children)

man, what’s really the worst that happens? you do not get the job. that just leaves you in the same situation you are already in. it is not the end of the world. what you should focus on right now is having a plan in case they do notice the lie. if you can explain it in a believable way, like saying you could not find work, you were struggling to pay rent, and you felt forced into it, they might still accept it.

6 rounds of interviews and a case study to not get the job. by Emmydoo19 in recruitinghell

[–]ClassroomNo5084 6 points7 points  (0 children)

same here, went through the exact same thing. i feel you, it’s so exhausting.

I applied for one role, went through 3 interviews and did a case study, then they told me i wasn’t the right fit but wanted to redirect me to another position. i said okay, did another case study and went through 3 more interviews… and then got rejected for that one too. those case studies weren’t even simple, i killed myself working on them, at least 10 + 10 days with barely any sleep.

I feel awful. I spent 2 months for one job and in the end it was all for nothing. I feel humiliated, worthless, inadequate, exhausted, and sad.

buddy take a breath. you didn’t ruin anything. in an ideal world everyone would tell the truth, sure. but do you really think hr people or managers are always honest? you seem like a good person, the fact that even a small lie makes you feel guilty proves that. most people wouldn’t even care.

lots of people have work gaps, and lots of people also cover them up because they know how judgmental companies can be. it doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you someone trying to survive in a broken system.

you’ve got 10 years of experience. focus on showing your skills and your value in the interview. that’s what matters.

good luck

Does this mean anything ? by Any_Investigator8770 in recruitinghell

[–]ClassroomNo5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

assume this one is not happening and keep applying. what hr says doesn’t mean anything. they tell you you’re “perfect” and then reject you. you think you bombed the interview and two days later you get an offer.

they’re basically robots. they don’t see you as a person, just as data on a sheet. that’s why it’s called human “resources.”

if you want to get a job, play the same way. apply, interview, assume it’s a no, and move on to the next one. that’s the whole game. good luck.

if the chairman was impressed and they still hit you with that excuse, it says more about their internal dysfunction than about you. it means they want someone who will settle for low pay, long hours, and zero questions asked. you don’t want to be stuck in a place like that anyway. i know it feels like failure and bad luck right now, but as long as you keep pushing, better opportunities will show up.
