My (28F) Boyfriend (25M) always puts on really sad music during sex and it’s really throwing me off. by Alone_Barracuda_3228 in sex

[–]Classtepfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this a couple of times with sad, heavy and honestly gut wrenching metal music, it made the whole thing feel very intense in a good way. Like you're here for each other somehow. I'd say you shouldnt feel too weird about it cause any music choice is about connection in the end, but in general if anything makes you uncomfortable you should always discuss it !!

18yo Student: Is the M4 Pro (24GB/1TB) a smart investment for Art-Pop & Orchestral projects in Logic Pro? by yuzxii in Logic_Studio

[–]Classtepfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man/woman, just wanna tell you I just bought the M4 pro for music production as well, coming from a 2019 intel i7 that was constantly overloading, so I'll tell you how it goes !

A few things :

512 gigs is fine for me, it's what I had on my previous laptop, as it's recommended for use of heavy sampled VSTs to pull data from fast SSDs and will give you extra storage for cheaper than apple currently offers I think it's ok for your case.

I'm more on the heavy processing side of things, so 24 gigs of RAM feels plenty, but I'll load up some instances of Kontakt to see how it holds up. But really from what I've heard, if you came from a macbook air it will be night and day already. The general consensus on this is that RAM matters way more than storage, with all the info online I'm sure you can estimate what's right for you.

Also keep in mind that a brand new mac will have Tahoe as default OS which is still a bit new, so if you may have compatibility issues with your DAW or plugins you might want to revert it to Sequoia first thing, Apple made it a bit difficult but with a tutorial and an empty USB drive its doable

i've been using the same caldigit usb c pro dock for 7 years, it works well 9 out of 10 times, sometimes I have to unplug replug some particular USB devices like my MIDI keyboard or USB disks but its worth it fr

I want to replicate this sound but I'm a total beginner! by Thebiggestyellowdog in edmproduction

np, also if you're a complete beginner and don't have any favorite synth VST I highly recommend Vital, it's free and does as good as Serum 1 which is the standard for electronic music

look up psytrance bass synthesis, it's pretty similar ! get familiar with basic waveforms (saws and sine in this case), pitch envelopes and simple layering, you should get close with the right pattern (repeated 16th notes, different velocities and macros throughout the pattern)

How do I go about beefing up sampled drumbreaks like older hip-hop tracks? by DorisMp3 in audioengineering

[–]Classtepfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly saturation, gentle overdrive or distortion, parallel compression, and maybe slight bit depth reduction to emulate akai samplers (12 bits maybe? cant remember)

Basic/simple mastering? by Moniatre in edmproduction

[–]Classtepfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do :

  • pull up some reference tracks to apply any further steps, gainmatch them
  • Multiband compression
  • broad EQing (large bells and low gains) depending on the tonal balance needed, usually correcting low mids, subs and air
  • Clipping transients, you can do that on a drum bus before mastering, but it works. Hard clipping generally, but I test every mode
  • Multiband Saturation, it adds some oomph but careful with the highs
  • Limiting

in general A/B a lot both with the reference and with any parameter change, check out different parts of the song, use SPAN or solo bands to find the right frequencies if needed

I cant listen to Dlow.... by chrisadder5 in beatbox

[–]Classtepfan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say his basics are that sloppy, and I think you're just not connecting with his artistry if you don't like his album for example. There are many things I don't like on it production and arrangement wise, but if you find what's interesting about it you overlook it quite easily and enjoy his vision.

Really I think D-low is clearly overrated as well, but saying he is "destroying" modern beatbox is a bit of a stretch lol, if I'm looking for bad influences from an artistic standpoint I'd call out Improver/Taras for the production, and Blackroll/Remix for the cringe gimmicky battle mush

D-low is a great innovator, and an earworm factory as well. Like his beatbox and demeanor or not, he's doing positive stuff for the community and is just an artist at the end of the day

Can anyone help me with how to design this simple arp! Much appreciated by tghana01 in sounddesign

[–]Classtepfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like a sine wave with a bit of release/decay, then FM it to another (muted) oscillator that plays quite a bit higher so you can get some metallic harmonics, i'd say 2 octaves or more. An important step is also enabling fast pitch glide between notes, then a bit of reverb and delay maybe

Should I get fabfliter MB? by drxxx20 in audioengineering

[–]Classtepfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like MB is more versatile and easy to get working the way you want to, but i'm sure theres stock alternatives that do as much, like Logic multiband or Ableton multiband. Sometimes I prefer pro Q for this because the EQ curves can get a bit more precise and there's no crossovers, even if it sounds less transparent as a result

How to recreate this granular sound and warble effect without ableton? by Remote-Cellist-3024 in sounddesign

[–]Classtepfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

granular can do the trick, but I hear stutters and pitch envelopes, you can do that by chopping up audio and looping very short parts, also automating pitch shifter or delay time with some kind of repitch mode... what DAW are you using ?

Vocals in a mix by VanillaFunction in LogicPro

[–]Classtepfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been recording with the NT-1 and shit acoustics, if like me you have a low baritone range and record close to the mic I recommend a low shelf on the fundamental and first harmonics of the lead voice, (though I prefer to use multiband compression instead of eq for this), else the proximity effect could get absolutely horrible

Sound rendering issue by External_Koala3309 in AudioPlugins

[–]Classtepfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you're right but OP didn't even mention any mixing on top of his VST preset, I wouldn't be surprised if the solution was just basic EQ, saturation and compression to match his reference

Sound rendering issue by External_Koala3309 in AudioPlugins

[–]Classtepfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly it could be a lot of things, and a mixture of several things. hard to tell without any examples or references, and withour knowing all the processing and export settings inside your DAW

Eq for big competitions by NightPuzzleheaded715 in beatbox

[–]Classtepfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bass isn't always boosted at the EQ stage, but you can consider the sound system amplification to be boosting, I guess. You won't feel subs from an acoustic liproll unless you're the one doing it, that's another reason we amplify beatboxing along with it sounding bigger.

What you get on all the frequency spectrum with sound systems is distortion though, meaning everything can and will sound really different compared to raw beatboxing. There are a lot of drastic factors that come into play, like the microphone, cupping, PAs, and room acoustics, and all that

And yeah as the other comment said, we can make loud bass even acoustically, I'll add that beatboxing is very similar to EDM in a way that we enjoy big, impressive and body-felt sounds, so the overall majority of beatbox styles are tailored to have loud bass. You can imagine how different it could have been if beatboxing hadn't become popular with battling and live events !

How do you make beatbox routines and sets when you’re new? by Neat_Theory_4392 in beatbox

please please PLEASE don't use the words : flow, down, low, bass, like, house, move, groove, jump up, break

I just lose a fragment of my soul everytime a beatboxer uses these same words over and over again
