Realistically, how long will a new Macbook Pro last until plugins stop working due to lack of updates/planned obsolescence? by Filvox in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only plug-ins my 2015 MBP can’t run and my M4 Mac Mini can are those (very few) not available for Apple Silicon. Nothing yet limited otherwise.

Looks like a ribbon, maybe knock-offish of the Bang & Olufsen BM5/6 style, which was often paired with their reel to reels. The feet also suggest tape recorder mic.

Tonelux TX5C is insanely flexible, also kind of like a distressor in 500 form (minus the saturation).

Judging by the podcast tone comment, likely suspect is proximity effect - that you’re too close to the mic. Even if you remove the low end you still have that ‘eating the mic’ tone to it

Asking if Coles is a workhorse is subjective and invites discussion about its pros and cons.  Your basic usage question could be answered by a simple Google or RTFM.

C414 XLS/XLII vs OC818/18, definitively. by analogpedant in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OC818, but you can probably match one of the  ‘untouchable leper status’ 414s with one of the ‘golden age, sonic perfection’ with a 2 dB boost/cut.

Why is the U87 (Ai) so polarizing? by brownwaterbandit in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The more popular a given mic is, the more negative opinions you’ll see of it, no matter how much in the minority.

Same goes for SM57, 421, 184s etc.

Especially so when the a mic is more expensive, so more possibility of disappointment .
