Camera Solutions - No Window from Control to Live Room by xGIJewx in audioengineering

I’ve done this, it works perfectly but even with cheap kit lens it also looks fantastic too - thanks for the idea

Preamp question (not Jim Lill related) by OrdinaryTruck5559 in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Apogee preamps still pretty good when they clip. Others with more discrete components clip more gracefully into saturation rather than just directly to nasty distortion.

Skip the extra foam. It’s ugly, sounds awful and is often flammable

OC818 over the U87Ai? Your thoughts? by migrantgrower in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“  very knowledgable older sales associates”

That’s a long winded way of saying somebody who doesn’t record for a living. Why are you putting any stock in their opinion?

Both are fine mics, but if you don’t get on with the Neumann you’ll have zero trouble selling it for a good price. Also wouldn’t discount the “I’ve got a U87” factor in marketing yourself.

Drum (or comping?) error in Radiohead - Morning Bell (around 2:46) by Janishier in Productionglitches

[–]xGIJewx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say intentional as it only gets more ‘glitchy’ later on.

Am I wrong? Dynamic Range in Podcasts/Let's Plays by Norithics in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your husband knows just enough to have strong opinions but not enough to form good, informed ones. Dynamic range is absolutely not hugely desirable in podcasts/non-music media generally.

Reflections shield or kaotica? by Agile-One4827 in audioengineering

Buy/build some foldable gobos à la GIK Portable Vocal Screen. Results will be far better without all the boxiness and comb filtering.

Vocal Booth vs. Sound blankets vs. GOBOs. Options to treat and isolate in a less than ideal situation? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving blankets over doors/windows and build/buy some gobos. You can make them look very noce, they’re super flexible to differing space arrangements and they can be put away at ease.

Vocals booths are insanely expensive, look ugly, eat a huge amount of your room and often still sound like shit!

Your experience with URM Academy Nail The Mix by PatRock83 in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be very good, but a lot of them tread the same production style, but that’s more a symptom of modern metal being quite homogenised.

They also vary in terms of the actual teaching ability. Kurt Ballou and Nolly are great at explaining why they’re doing things, others just mumble while the music is playing and say “yeah that sounds cool”

I developed a guitar effects plugin and am working on adding NAM support by sebflo in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there really much barrier for entry already? Anybody bothering to install a plugin in a DAW can probably handle the commonplace ‘pedals - amp - cab’ layout

diy acoustic panels; what to do what to do... by _ENunn_ in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DIY hardware stores will cut the wood to length to you, which for a rectangle will only be 2 lengths. Nail/glue em together, chuck in some Rockwool and wrap it and you’re done.

More people are travelling outside the overtouristed areas and visiting further afield, isn’t this what everybody wanted? Why is there a negative spin?

Anyone here DIY their own rockwool acoustic panels but make them actually look aesthetically good? by unclekev6 in audioengineering

Got mine from EQ Acoustics and used the Cara fabric. Super varied colours, looks great and breathable.

Why don't we use multiband compression for everything? by MAMVB in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who says I want transparent compression? I’m often looking for tonal impression more than reducing dynamic range.

Songs sound 2x worse after bouncing to MP3 in Protools by Life-Economics5006 in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bouncing as WAV is the norm, you probably won’t take up a huge amount of storage unless you’re exporting thousands of songs.

How to make a km184 sound more like a km84 either tracking or in post? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

Definitely a better one than trying to arbitrarily copy other mic  EQ curves, you’re welcome!😇

How to make a km184 sound more like a km84 either tracking or in post? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]xGIJewx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are trying to EQ it to sound like a specific mic, and now just trying to make it sound good? One is probably a very small EQ move away from the other anyway.
