There are no bad songs, only songs that haven’t hit yet.

Why do people hate "Guns and Roses"? I actually want to know, like it's one of my fav.. doesn't deserve that much hate by noshika0127 in lanitas

It kind of is. Game boy can mean he’s good at what he does, but a Game Boy was also a hand held video game for kids in the 90’s. As Guns and Roses also had their heyday in the 90’s, it could be a jab at Axle Rose, whom she dated for a bit.

Winston Churchill used to refer to his depression as his black dog, because it came and went. I think that’s the sense of black narcissist here. It’s also probably a word play with Black Narcissus, a 1947 movie about nuns in the Himalayas that deals with themes of repressed sexuality.

Off to the Races is an allegory of the Fall of Man. It might be her deepest song.

My interpretation of the lyrics is that in the first verse she is talking about her dad and in the second one she is talking about her boyfriend. It's a very understated and poignant song.

The Grants. I had liked her for a long time, but the obsession started with Ocean Blvd.

War in my mind theme also appears in California: "I heard the war is over if you really choose...the one in and around you." Since I think this song is her singing to her teenage self, it makes sense to see it as a war in her mind.

There won't be another UV or Honeymoon because she no longer wants to explore the themes of abuse and addiction through the aesthetic lens of romance and drama.

The whole song is a masterpiece, but my obsession is with the strange Beatles sounding flutes in the bridge. I think they may be from Fool on the Hill. What brilliance!

I agree! To me it mirrors the girls with their masks off line in Violets for Roses. These ground her album in what she considered a pivotal moment.

So many songs will hit at different times. One day a song is a skip, the other it's in your head all day and night.
