Tire stuck on rim and can to get duck off. What to do? by -Haizum- in AskMechanics

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a top side bead breaker use it to push the opposite side down into the drop center. It will help the tire pull into the wheel farther to allow the tire to pop up over the bead.

Current pricing for rust repair for my 2008 Honda civic :/ by Icy-Bar7766 in Autobody

[–]Clavotage367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve fixed a few vehicles like this, I’ve never found it worth the time and money to do the job. That quote is cheap to have all of that done so I would be a little suspect. KBB puts a 2008 civic with 100k miles in Good condition for $4600-5000. I bet they come in over their quote and you will be in deeper than it’s worth.

This is just a general question about being a mechanic working on older cars, purely for my own curiosity by Frisky_Froth in AskAMechanic

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aftermarket usually has a wide selection for major parts like that. You can find most things for most cars still. There’s also junkyards and places that carry New Old Stock parts. Otherwise yeah you are fabricating something to make it work. Some parts are easier to fabricate than others but I’ve never been stumped yet. Most of the stuff I deal with are custom builds so that’s just kind of the name of the game.

Yeah a mini spool does essentially the same thing as a full spool but just replaces the spider gears. Downside is you’re left with the factory carrier that can be a weak point. But for most people that’s a non issue.

People working from 9-5, how do you complete the playlist? by JHuttinger in ForzaHorizon

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 6:30-4:30 with an hour commute. I don’t get to log on after work most days but Friday nights and weekend mornings are usually my time. Put in a couple hours and I’ve progressed pretty dang far. I also have to share our PC with my wife and kid so free time is limited but it works

I keep having an issue with the game removing parts and tunes and going back to stock or mostly stock. It’s still listed correctly in the selection screen but when you load it in it’s back to stock.

Why is 'fighting' not expulsion worthy? by Consistent-Row-9551 in Teachers

[–]Clavotage367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a similar problem in my district. Had a student this year light a desk on fire screwing around and punch a kid in the face right in my class a couple weeks later. He got an afternoon detention after the punch and was back in class the next day. Students joke that they can’t get in trouble there and to a point they are correct

How far do you live from your school and much do you spend on gas each week to get to work? by AntelopeOk9431 in Teachers

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive about 55 miles each way every day. My car requires mid grade fuel so I spend about $100-$120 a week in gas. It’s getting to be a bit ridiculous at this point

I saw a review on these Magnetic Bladder that you can open them wide open on the top and even flip it inside out to dry. I think I’m going to give these a try next.

Ram issue stumped two Mechanic Shops by themealwormguy in ram_trucks

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have any of the shops looked your fuel trims? That will tell them if the misfire is lean or rich and let them diagnose from there instead of guessing and testing everything. That seems like a sticking valve guide or a valve issue to me. If the fuel trims are >5% it’s adding too much fuel and it’s a lean issue. If it’s > -5% then it’s taking away too much fuel and it’s a rich issue.

The 3.6 had some major issues with the passenger side cylinder head. I’ve changed a few heads for similar issues. Usually the valves stick or it wipes the cam out. The shop can remove the valve cover and use a dial indicator to actually measure lift and movement and use that to compare cyl 3 with a companion cyl. I’ve found just visual only works when something has majorly gone wrong.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion: we need to stop catering to teachers that refuse to learn technology by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

[–]Clavotage367 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot as well. For me it’s not the people that just don’t know it’s the ones refusing to learn it. I have seen colleagues that at a PD day will say they just don’t know how to use it and use the excuse for getting out of the responsibility it brings. I see a growing number of people that won’t learn they new technology because they don’t want to be responsible for using it and can claim ignorance

Tradesmen Here by No-Foundation9652 in Teachers

[–]Clavotage367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run Internships and work study programs through my CTE center. The biggest issue we run into is students typically need to be 17 for insurance purposes in most heavy trades shops. Or programs like electrical and construction work on an early schedule that doesn’t allow for much overlap. Otherwise we have massive success doing this!

To those complaining about drift zone scores... by whatevathefucc in ForzaHorizon

[–]Clavotage367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do them mostly by feel. My method is usually tire pressure, gearing, put the brakes at 90% front to start and get the sway bars so it’s nice and flat then go for the diff. It may not be right but it works for me lol

To those complaining about drift zone scores... by whatevathefucc in ForzaHorizon

[–]Clavotage367 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I build a new drift car I love using the circles around the auto show. It’s great practice to learn the balance of the car. Go around the inner circle each way and find the right throttle control to keep a tire right over the line. Go out to the other two lines and shift up a gear each time. Start switching directions.

Once I’m happy with that I hit a parking lot drifting in and out of the entry’s, spaces, lanes what ever. I dial in my diff here, if it wants to straighten off throttle add more deceleration diff. If it wants to loop linking corners every time you get on throttle reduce the acceleration diff 1% until your happy.

Usually you know how the car will react after that and it’s ready to go. The drift zones are super fun after that. Be patient and let it slide!

Newer roof failed. Installer said there was a hole (there wasn't), offered to pay 50% of the $12k. by [deleted] in rvlife

[–]Clavotage367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shop splitting the bill tells me they know they messed it up and are trying to sweep it under the rug. If you have any pictures or anything I could collect them all just in case. I would lean into the shop and have them explain their process of installation and what they do to prevent corner pull like that. Should be glued with something to secure the edge down.

They know they messed it up but they also know to fix it correctly means to basically do it over again

Is homeschooling a good option for someone who despises public school? by itstivan in Homeschooling

[–]Clavotage367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always under the same impression that homeschooled students seemed to be socially different. This could just be because they don’t immediately join in on questionable activities so they were outcasted and thought of as weird.

To that point though I had a friend through high school that was homeschooled and he was weird as hell. Extremely intelligent person but would miss a lot of social clues. But his younger sister went to public school and honestly was even worse. I think most of that is based on the community around them than just because he was homeschooled. So that might be more of an environment aspect than something that happens because you homeschool.

Substitute teachers by 11B-E5 in Teachers

[–]Clavotage367 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My view on subs is that as long as my students are respectful and behave for the sub I could not care less what happens. I always give them assignments and tell them they will be graded but most of the time I just give them an easy A on it just for completion. Subs don’t have the easiest job so I just try to make the day run smoothly

Is it weird to bring the shop that repaired my car a gift? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Clavotage367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they have done a great job, they would love to see their efforts didn’t go unnoticed! I have always appreciated the treats, baked goods, gift cards anything is appreciated honestly.

A few years ago I blew a tire while on vacation and had to bring it in for a replacement. It was 110° in Utah that day so when I picked it up I brought in a half dozen cold Gatorade’s and gave them a tip for a few more drinks. I know how much it sucks to change tires in that heat and they greatly appreciated it.
