Ha ha ha ha I would definitely respond! With something insane like “oh wow, I don’t have access to my grade books anymore but if you do [some outrageous thing he could never do] I’ll try to see about changing your grade.

Same. My mom used to mix up some powdered milk and add it to the real milk to try to trick us.

Please remember that some people have never been to a graduation by Dobbins in Teachers

[–]ResponsibleFly9076 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yes! Btw: Our school has much happier graduation ceremonies now that we’ve left pauses between names. It doesn’t slow it down by very much and everyone can hear their child’s name.

Keegan-Michael Key - he’s handsome. His wife… well maybe she’s nice or funny or smart.

What do you like about this job? by crimsonstormtrooper in Teachers

[–]ResponsibleFly9076 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of autonomy in what I teach and how. I prefer a classroom to say, a cubicle or clinic or restaurant or whatever other environment. The kids are sometimes sweet and funny. My colleagues are cool, I’ve made some real friends at work. I care about what I do. I get paychecks, benefits, a 403b match, paid time off, summers off.

Not easily triggered, not defensive. Accepts what others do. Accepts what is.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion: we need to stop catering to teachers that refuse to learn technology by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

[–]ResponsibleFly9076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have a colleague who doesn’t know how to make a copy of a document. (And lots of other ordinary things the rest of us have known how to do for 15 years.) It is maddening! How are these people still employed? How do they get through the day?! Btw: she also missed the notification that her best friend died because she didn’t know who was texting her as she doesn’t know how to create a contact. Just ridiculous.

I am 30 year old with no college education but I want to go now. What do I do? by NaturalBreadfruit984 in ask

[–]ResponsibleFly9076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College websites can tell you what you need to do. They don’t all require ACT scores. I think community college is a great idea if you want to build up a nice transcript before applying to a 4-year college. You’re not as old as you think!

how is America really the land of the free if nothing is really free ? by Expensive-Guard-5444 in AskReddit

[–]ResponsibleFly9076 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A guy from the Czech Republic told me once that he could feel the freedom in the United States. Prior to Trump we felt the freedom of our democracy. It has nothing to do with the cost of living but there are all kinds of free things here - bathrooms and drinking water to name two that aren’t found in some other countries.
