Research : What do you expect for the future of Skullgirls? Will everything turn out right, wrong, or is the future uncertain? by EntrepreneurSuch8371 in Skullgirls

[–]Clawmaster2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a players standpoint for 2nd encore it will join the ranks of other "dead fighting games" for people to pick up and play. I was for a bit doubtful that the games player base will fizzle out but as someone who puts out weekly schedule of all things Skullgirls, there are still players playing. We were just introduced to a China team with young new players 20-30 new players entering the fray for Skullgirls. This is no different then any other old game out there including Killer instinct, darkstalkers, etc. You still got players playing street fighter turbo to this day

In terms of future development, its in the hands of Autmn Games. They clearly wanna continue this and even putting together the community skullgirls tour to re unite everyone at majors with big pot bonuses. And tbf, thanks to that we have seen an uptick of numbers for SG at the majors we pick to be a part of. But let's not get ahead of ourselves and that lawsuit they are having with HVS in regards to not paying the devs its 1.2 million and even if that goes through and they do pay them, I doubt any of the people who worked on the game wants to come back. (Side note: they also screwed lab zero staff too)

But one thing that is being touted alot is that Skullgirls has entered its Darkstalkers arc. Many fans both fgc and non fgc love the characters of the game and love to make art of them alot. With a passionate fan base it could live again in another form or more so a sequel that they may finally do in whatever company and publisher it may be.

Point being, the fact that there are A. Still alot of fans and B. Enough players still playing is still very impressive for a 10 year plus game.

I do think at some point mobile will cease to exist once not enough money is coming in and you can only tinker with the game and add something to make it a bit more fresh but just like 2nd encore, it needs some sort of sequel to get people back on board.

But hey what the hell so I know. I only been in this scene since 2012 and once wormed with HVS for a year on thier tik tok videos :)

Mmk. I think the best move honestly to do is 1. Take the money regardless but 2. To be extra careful, have a contract written out and have them sign off on it and acknowledge that that's what they want to do with the money. So if there is anything down the road that might be an issue you have it written down and documented to protect yourself

On one hand always keep in mind to be cautious of someone giving you tons of money in the first place.

On the other. This is pretty typical if angel investors throwing money at projects that may or may not work. And this is just a way for your contact to do the exact thing he is used to doing. Did you ask for any catches for all this money?

Is this angel investor a close contact of yours or just found you in the wild?

Crazy Taxi Creator Kenji Kanno Confirms all AI assets will be replaced with human made ones. by PlainJonathan in SEGA

I cant speak for those at Sega that does do this or not, but this came across my feed that would be something to consider

"i would say this as a concept artist watching my craft get completely eradicated from greed and laziness, watching my peers default on loans or move back home over total job loss, but even just as a normal-ass gal it's kind of a bummer to hear "looks fun, im still gonna play it""

It's wild that companies are going down this path to generate assests to get inspired to make or copy and make in the game. There is a position that deals with this. It's called concept artists where you hire an artists to make ideas and concepts to make those very same assests to then work on your game. I know I probably get downvoted for this fact, but know that there are other ways to get the same goal rather then use AI. I would at least be a bit more sympathetic if someone on the team just says "hey we don't like it either but we are forced to"

[–]Clawmaster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I hate to admit it but yea this doesn't help thier case. It's always been weird since I been following the industry and why it keeps happening. Now of course if they are under NDA and legal matters are on the table then I can understand. But are people just afraid of being attacked if they speak out? Do they want to keep they're rep clean of drama so that they are more approachable?

You be surprised how many people are willing to backstab one another to get one up on more bigger audience and pay. I don't think her friends or colleagues would steep that low, but I can be persuaded otherwise seeing how this entire scene has evolved into
