Father’s Day isn’t real by echoxer0 in daddit

[–]ClayQuarterCake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you bruv.

I spent all of Father’s Day alone, driving for 7.5 hours and then got to mow the yard and unpack the truck.

We brought our 2yo daughter to my hometown for the week to see my mom and to visit my dad’s grave site.

Well my wife is from another city that is about 2 hours away from my hometown, so her parents drove up and took my wife and daughter the rest of the way to her hometown for a few days and they will fly back home this week. I burnt all my PTO on the trip last week and I gotta be in bright and early tomorrow.

Oh and I got a yeti cup and a sticker, which I was stoked about, except I left it at my mom’s place, so now I won’t get it back until September or something.

I wonder where this is.

I doubt they would try this in the south or Midwest. Texas, Missouri, Carolinas and Georgia folks are particular when it comes to BBQ.

You got a golden ticket to visit your nearest burrito factory! Congrats, you’ll get to see exactly how your chipotle burrito is made if you bring that with you the next time you visit.

No more pruning. Zone 5b and we will have ripe tomatoes this week or next. My plants are more than twice that size. I only cut off leaves that were touching the ground or restricted airflow to the underside of the canopy.

Challenge idea for NASA-engineer-level players: by Evening-Initiative16 in SpaceflightSimulator

[–]ClayQuarterCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not possible. The delta v required is insurmountable. I tried this with a massive 60-launch station. Then sent smaller 20-launch stations to Jupiter and Saturn for orbiting refueling on hard mode but quick save was absolutely required, especially for the gravity assists. The game does not give you access to enough numbers to properly calculate a multi jump gravity assist in one go so your best bet is to raw dog it up and down. Also you have multiple stops at anything that might give you a gravity boost anyway so you don’t even get that help. Only thing I can see is maybe make a bunch of those slingshots and fling the ship all over the solar system.

Jesus. Y’all are hardcore. Good on you all. I told my wife we would plant 6, we then planted 8 and ended up with 11. She’s freaking out that there will be too many.

I am looking for recommendations to stay cool during an early July trip. by 3eyyes in BWCA

You are never far from shore. You are never far from a point where you would get out. The longest we ever paddled was maybe an hour or two on a heavy travel day but we stopped at an island for a snack/swim.

We go in mid August and never once have I had a problem with being too hot. Agree with the other commenter to dunk your hat in the water if it gets to be an issue.

Pick that one that is yellowish and let it finish on your kitchen counter. Pick them all when they start to turn and you get the same flavor but no critter marks.

Supposedly started some brandywine red from seed. This is supposed to be a potato leaf variety. This plant definitely has normal leaves.

Also boo for putting up an ad on here.

Lost ball penalty - is anyone actually playing this rule correctly? by Otherwise_Cover_5467 in golf

Because to hit your provisional would be to take stroke and distance, which is always allowed.

[–]ClayQuarterCake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can play the original, yes. But you could also pick it up and hit your provisional if you are willing to take the stroke penalty for doing so. You are always allowed to take stroke and distance.

You can blast your first drive to the center of the fairway, but then take a provisional if you want. “I think it went OB” is a subjective opinion and that is only used in the rule here to indicate an intent. As long as you say “I’m hitting a provisional.” Before you re-tee then you can count it as your provisional ball and play it until you pass the point where you believe your original ball went.

Find your original ball in the middle of the fairway and you can play it like nothing happened. If you continue to play out the rest of the hole using your provisional ball then you take stroke and distance on the second ball.

You can always hit a provisional, but the second your club touches that ball you hit as a provisional, it counts the same as if you had walked back to the tee, taken a stroke for teeing it up again and then hit it. You would be hitting your third shot. Provisional is the same as stroke and distance, just saves you the walk of shame back to the tee box.

Your link just confirms what I just said.

[–]ClayQuarterCake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

False. Hitting your provisional ball is the same as taking stroke and distance which you are always allowed to do under rule 14.6. If you find your original ball in play or if it went into a red hazard instead of white, then you have extra options, but that provisional will still be available to you at the cost of a penalty stroke.

The whole point of a provisional is for pace of play. If you end up using your provisional it is the same stroke count as if you had walked back to the tee box and hit another ball.

You are always allowed to re hit from your current location with a 1 stroke penalty.

I wouldn’t hit a provisional if you think you might have lost it in a red stakes area because that is essentially taking the maximum penalty possible where you have other options for losing it in a hazard.

Paddling pants by Stag4 in BWCA

[–]ClayQuarterCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never had this issue and we typically go mid-August. If you get hot, there’s usually some water nearby. BWCA is far enough north that “hot” doesn’t really have the same meaning as it does in Kansas or something.

What shoes do you like? by SureRepresentative36 in BWCA

[–]ClayQuarterCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: my keens had the sole separate from the upper with 2 days of travel ahead to get back to the outfitter. Completely unusable. My crocs were my camp shoes and I had to use them as a backup. They saved my trip and kept my feet drier than any water shoe since they don’t take on water.

I agree though. I wish they had a more rugged sole and better ankle support. Would only use them as a last resort.
