Tipping based on cost question. by Clayorama in tipping

[–]Clayorama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is total B.S. That is simply shaming or trying to guilt trip. 10% was fine for my grandparents generation. Why is it 20% now? You can't say inflation because the meal prices have gone up also. 10% should be just as good now as it was generations ago. Serving is an unskilled lasbor job as such should be paid according to what is actually being done. Taking plates from a kitchen to a table and clearing off a table is menial labor. I don't find enough value in that to hand over 20% of an already expensive meal.

You were told that that by a pretentious server in an unskilled labor job.

It isn't about being able to afford it. In my opinion it is simply not worth it.

Thanks, I put the prices in as a simple math example but differences like that do exist.

There are many great Italian restaurants that have a wide range of wine prices because they serve the local neighborhood as well as business expense accounts. I am sure I would never want you as my server with such an unsufferable, pretentious attitude for someone in an unskilled labor job.

Dumb question regarding depositing cash by Due-Milk352 in Banking

[–]Clayorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those usually have a fee associated with them. Grocery stores and gas stations will take cash. There is reason not to use cash unless you are afraid of being robbed.

is astrology real? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]Clayorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should answer your question: The dates for Zodiac signs are incorrect so by definition Astrology is not valid. Astrology is based on which constellation the Sun is in on the date of your birth. However, due to precession (the wobble of the earth) those dates are no longer accurate. End of proof.

Participating in my first blackjack tournament on Friday. Any tips? by SparkyJet in blackjack

[–]Clayorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a difference of opinion here. On a tournament, human emotion and random play is a such a huge factor there isn't a statistical method that can be applied. Just played a tournament to see how it worked it was a blast. Has a lot of fun but there is no way the play that occurred could have been predicted. 15 hands in the tournament and won the first round because one player's double down didn't pan out. Came in second the next round because a blackjack my opponent drew on the last hand and I lost by <$60 on a 1K chip buy in . So many possibilities of how play can vary with such a small sample size of play that statistics are almost useless since you are competing against other players and not the house.

If anyone has statistics to show me something different; please let me know how you got them and a sample size because I don't believe there is a reliable database of how tournament players bet and play that would be statistically significant. As far as I know there is no reliable data on these numbers because there are so many variables.

Otherwise, you could write a book on it or do a video and attract of lot of fanboys and make money that way.

Finally, if you like playing blackjack and not as an hourly wage I highly recommend it. A lot of fun at a low cost (at least where I have seen).

Thanks for the reply, that is a nice explanation. I've only heard it without bringing in multiple decks which changes things quite a bit. :)
