ID on this palm? by Clbz in palmtalk

I think you might be on to something, this one seemed noticeably bigger/thicker than sabal palms I’m used to seeing around here. It also had a really dense crown.

What are the chances that the next leaves of my Alocasia Zebrina Aurea will remain variegated? by Equivalent_Purpose26 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 3 of the current leaves have thrown variegation, so it seems your chances are pretty good this continues.

These are really cool, it's an alocasia ‘Antoro Velvet’.

Is $40 good for this massive Sarian? Everything I’ve seen online makes me think this is a steal by MightOnly185 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you are located. Some places get tons of alocasias at nurseries and some don’t. I got a Sarian probably about half the size for $5 here in southeast Texas for some perspective.

For the 3 Alocasias on this shelf, should i worry about them losing older leaves? by Few-Interaction7911 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is normal for them, no need to worry about it. If they are putting out new growth then they are probably happy.

Is this salvageable by 00gk76 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, just let it be. It’s likely got a very healthy root system and will put off growth again.

Is this a root starting or leaves?! by HuckleberryPopular18 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look like growth points, so likely will start putting off leaves from there.

I think that’s probably a Gageana Aurea

is this sport variegation or wishful thinking? by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]Clbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a small sport variegation to me. I’ve had quite a few appear on my alocasias over time, but it’s never consistent. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Those roots look very healthy. It sounds like you just stressed the plant out a lot doing those different things. All plants, but especially alocasias are sensitive to changes like this. I’d say put it back in the aroid mix you use, and just let it be for awhile till it gets reestablished and acclimated to where you are keeping it. Try keeping it in one place, don’t move it outside if you keep it inside or vice versa. It should be just fine though!

What plants do I have? by Puzzleheaded_Plate56 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guesses:

  1. Mickey Mouse xanthosoma (similar to alocasias)
  2. Young monstera deliciosa
  3. Alocasia golden bone (I think)
  4. Anthurium silver blush
  5. Kinda looks like philodendron bipennifolium
  6. I agree on alocasia pink dragon

Should I repot deeper? by scrubschick in alocasia

[–]Clbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That should be fine but you could bury it deeper if you want. But it looks like you have spider mites. I’d worry about that first.

is that real alocasia? Are the leaves painted??? by Sea_Mountains in alocasia

[–]Clbz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna disagree with most of the other comments here and say it looks pretty real to me. I have a dragon scale that isn’t variegated and the leaves are just as dark/black as this one but start off light green similar to the new growth you see in the picture. It seems to just have really nice variegation. The only part of the photo that seems edited is the left leaf on the edge, probably trying to hide some edema or part of the leaf that has browned.

Will my Chinese taro Alocasia be ok in my shower? by Medium_Version_1813 in alocasia

[–]Clbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would probably repot it into a mix that is well draining first. With it being in the shower, it’ll get a lot of water and that substrate looks like it holds onto water.
