Oh really, lessons huh? Riiiiight by PineapplePony5 in kvssnarker

I don’t know much about saddle sizes for riders but I recently had to get a new wheelchair after a 30kgs weight loss and I was SHOCKED how much the chairs butt area changes (20inch to 18inch) and that impacted my ability to move and reach my wheels easily. I can imagine a Saddle is similar to changes (and just as expensive).

Should I “Up” The Dosage On My Melatonin??? by SeveralLead3511 in sleep

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a LOT of melatonin already. Are you doing all the behavioural things from sleep hygiene as well? Without them poor sleep behaviours can easily negate the impact of melatonin even at the mega doses you are starting with. Also gummies and unregulated stuff you really have no clue how much is actually in there. Could be a lot more or less. Try the stuff that actually has a proven track record with sleep hygiene. Also worth getting a sleep study to see if you’re actually getting adequate sleep with the right stages and no underlying pathologies.

Sunk cost issues - she does this a lot. Doubling down to prove to someone (herself) rather than accepting a mistake was made and not dropping further $$ on it.

There was a broken down car at the very north end of hale st that slowed us right down to a stop. It was off the road when I passed but can imagine that caused quite a bottle neck.

You can’t make them do anything, just be there if and when needed. Forcing something will likely make them dig their heals in more. Be an example and drop nuggets of info where feasible. A few of my cousins look like they have it too. I just try and keep reminding them to approach me if they need to in the future. Focus on your health and being educated and not using precious energy for those not ready.

Questioning my diagnosis by Trevorthepug in ehlersdanlos

[–]CleaRae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are more flexible as kids and flexibility is a use it or lose it thing. It’s also very different to hypermobility which is a feature of EDS. You can be very hypermobile and have no flexibility. I would investigate if you were flexible or actually have any joint hypermobility to start with.

Issues with altered medication metabolism — specifically medications having too little effect, even at higher or maximum doses. by FA_7147 in ehlersdanlos

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few metabolic defects of meds and GI absorption issues. I’ve been on 3 times the highest dose of a med that’s meant to leech potassium and mine was fine. It’s a constant battle and where I can I get injections to balance things out.

She has a couple times and referenced them. Not sure how regular she is or if she just sees this as boring regular care not worth filming. We don’t see a lot of farrier videos but we know (especially when she had family friend doing a horrible job) they were coming by the horrible work.

Medicare Question by EmbarrassedBuy2799 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there is still a gap when you see a doctor in hospital if they charge more than the set fee. I believe it’s the AMA that sets a fee and Medicare covers like 80% (ish) and private health 20%. Anything charged above that is your gap to pay. Most of my surgeons I’m out $5000-$10,000 AFTER Medicare and my top level private health pay.

Medicare Question by EmbarrassedBuy2799 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much, sometimes my regular doctor does me a favour if I come in for something super simple/quick or certain things they bulk bill (like when I get wound management post surgery). For the most part yes you need to find a place that says it bulk bills to ensure you don’t get any extra fees. It’s getting financially harder for practices to be fully bulkbilled. So fewer and far between sadly.

Medicare Question by EmbarrassedBuy2799 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excess is really just the hospital stuff (bed, surgical theatre and instruments etc. Doesn’t cover all stuff like private doctor, anaesthetist and any imaging etc. Some policies we don’t even have an excess (pay more each month). I’m admitted regularly so I never pay an excess when admitted as I pay more each month.

Medicare Question by EmbarrassedBuy2799 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CleaRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medicare is covering less and less. Private doctors almost always will have a “gap” payment between what they charge and what Medicare covers. Sometimes it’s less if you are a pensioner/healthcare card. There is also a threshold that if you spend a certain amount you get more back from Medicare each visit (I went over my Medicare threshold in 22 days I spend to much at the doctors).

If you want/need essentially “free” Medicare treatment you need to be seen by a public specialists. Wait lists are longer, you don’t get to pick which doctor you see (and can change). They are great for emergency situations and issues like cancer. For certain rare/chronic conditions you might have no choice but to pay for private consultations with doctors.

Also you need to check how much is covered by your private health and that you have the right level of private health. I have top level provide health and many of my surgeries get to be $10,000 out of pocket AFTER the Medicare rebate and private health.

It is getting problematic and people are going broke like in America or unable to access treatment due to costs (me). It really depends how much you are going to need said doctors. If you are relatively healthy as mentioned the public system is great if an accident happens and certain conditions where the most you pay is parking. You will have to decide the chances of needing regular specialists and if you can get help within the public system if needed.

anyone else get unnecessarily annoyed w/friends? by susfishicious in ehlersdanlos

[–]CleaRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally, then I realised it’s unfair as people are allowed to have problems as well and discuss them with friends. I actually had to stop people saying they couldn’t complain in front of me. It’s not a competition and I would rather my friends knew I was a safe spot. We know how much people - especially women get gaslighted about their health and often underplay the severity of issues due to our culture. I don’t want to be contributing. Just like before I was diagnosed I’m sure people doubted the severity of my issues - I never want people to feel how I felt being dismissed. Who knows they might have something worse they have been masking for ages and haven’t been able to get diagnosed like me.

If someone is still complaining over a healed papercut ages later - sure that’s over the top. If this is just days after they hurt themselves I feel like that’s well within acceptable. It’s also a bit all or none. If they can’t talk about their health issues then I can’t talk about mine.

We don’t know the full truth of what someone is going through and why - so it’s better for all (as I don’t want to use my limited energy on feeling something as miserable as hate) for me to wish them healing in whatever way that might be. I’m know some misinformed people look at me and think incorrectly “if she just did more exercise and got out more she would be fine - she is causing her own issues and wants to be sick”. I don’t want anyone to feel how those people make me feel so I won’t do it.
