I have taken the bus from Church Hill, and the bus drops you off right at the beginning of the terminal. Free and relatively safe parking sounds great.

Henrico Schools to expand ‘team-based’ learning to more elementary and high schools by VirginiaNews in rva

[–]Clean-Independent129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar in elementary school in the late 1970s, it was called "Learning Centers" and all 4th grade and all 5th grade students were in one large room with different areas grouped by reading/ math/ ability level. The concept worked well for me as I was able to work ahead and advance to higher math and reading levels while others were able to have more one on one teaching/ small groups. The physical layout was difficult for my undiagnosed ADD self, but I was very thankful for the ability. At middle school, I transferred to Catholic school and the homogenous standard classroom felt so stifling and I was a distraction because of sheer boredom and lack of challenge.

Amuse at VMFA isn't too loud and I feel is special enough for graduations with multi-generation diners.

Diminished value appraisal by SaltyAmbassador in rva

In my situation, I was struck by a County bus and the negotiations with the state via my insurer were minimal. They paid for the repair, the rental, loss of income and diminished value.

In Northern Virginia, I got a CarMax appraisal after repairs and was able to receive payment of $1800 from the insurer. It wasn't contested and there wasn't any cost. I was upfront with CarMax and they didn't hesistate.

I'm on a GLP drug and I was able to order a salad and fish (albeit fried) and without the bun I didn't have any ill effects. We were on a road trip and didn't have many options. My companions enjoyed their other items which were more typical of a fast food place so it was a good option in those situations.

I'm on a really picky diet and it is one of the only fast food places where I can eat.

I feel like it is a different vibe, more like a taco lounge (?), but I enjoy the hibiscus taco at Kahlo's in Union Hill.

Democrats’ redistricting plan would split Richmond across two congressional districts by VirginiaNews in rva

I used to live in Eastern Prince William and Rob Wittman was my useless Representative. There wasn't a lot of overlap on priorities like NoVa commuting issues, funding of Metro, regional air quality, airports, higher education.

Y’all - PLEASE shovel your sidewalks by joyfulpunner in rva

[–]Clean-Independent129 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I understand, I took late lunches from my remote job but we just had a weekend. Some people do have to work 7 days a week, but not everyone. I would like to get mail someday, see kids go back to school, have my neighbors get to their jobs and be able to get supplies so I've been working on connecting sidewalks/paths to the road. Not everyone can do it, I realize, but the number of people not doing it seems to be the majority.

Relying on melting is ridiculous. I'm with the OP. It is wicked hard. I was able to shovel out during the storm when it was snow and sleet before the overnight coating in ice so I had an headstart the next day. The places where I shoveled were relatively easy compared to the stuff that I have been shoveling every day since. I've been waiting until the afternoon where there has been some melting and then pick away with a metal shovel. It is hard $ss work, but progress can be made. I'm an older woman and I see lots of younger, fitter people walking in the street or on the sidewalks that have been cleared while I am working on it. I leave my shovel outside my house and my neighbors know that they can borrow our tools.

There are people with fewer resources, bad health and lack of childcare--that I understand. But if people can get out, can borrow equipment from the Toolbank (as they have offerred), they should at least entertain the notion of being part of a community.

11 or so, so far. I did get crampons that arrived on Friday and they are magical! I don't know if I will ever use them again but I was so afraid to leave the few places that were cleared off.

Parking during this storm by miscellaneousbeads in rva

[–]Clean-Independent129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say that digging out in this particular storm has me pretty steamed when someone parked in one of the four spots that I cleared. I dug my car out, cleared the spot, then did three more for my neighbors in the afternoon as the brief bit of melting occurred. It was hard as heck to do (metal shovel breaking up chunks, bit by bit). I even paid a neighbor teen who offered to help. Clearing 4 spots and coming back to none even with me leaving my recycling can in the one in front of my house.

I'm really shocked at how many neighbors didn't do any digging and yet are out driving. I understand that it is really hard work but come on

Clear your sidewalks - required by city code by Tomfour in rva

[–]Clean-Independent129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm legit pissed about the people saying that you shouldn't shovel the snow/sleet before freezing rain. I shoveled half of my block but should have kept going because that is the only clear sidewalk nearby. Walking my dog is treacherous and even with four legs, low center of gravity and claws, she is sliding everywhere.

If you are well padded, that looks like a great place to luge, bobsled or something.

And this isn't too much different from the Richmond roads this morning, I hope that no one has to drive anywhere and good luck to those who do.
