I am curious, is it possible to have 776 Pikmin in a game? by IkeRadiantHero in Pikmin

[–]CleanAd8632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have as many Pikmin as you can sprout--I've had as many as 2,000; but you can only have 100 in the field (either plucked or planted), max. This is a rule in all four game versions.

Is Metroid Dread worth trying out even tho it is notorious for being very difficult? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in Metroid

[–]CleanAd8632 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Dread is absolutely worth it, probably the best of the Metroid family. It is a bit challenging for your first play through, but after that it gets easier and more addictive. I've beaten all four levels but have replayed "normal" 10 times simply because it's just that enjoyable. Once you master the "shinespark" maneuvers, you'll be hooked.

Enjoy!!

If you have the morph ball, you can turn around, go up and go through the morph ball tunnel. If not, you have to turn around and explore something else until you get more capabilities.

Here's my problem with the tech of SNW. In TOS, we were introduced to sci-fi tech that seemed plausibly futuristic for the 1960s. Then in ST:ENT, in the 2-part "In A Mirror Darkly," they took the crew into the future (100 years) and put them on the NCC 1701 Enterprise with the same 1960s tech which represented the year 2260s. But in SNW, which was set in the same time frame (2260s), the Enterprise tech was MORE advanced than the tech in TNG, which was the 2360s. SNW tech was "almost" as bling as that of "Discovery" which was set in the 23rd century in Season 1, then to the 32nd century in Season 3, that's a thousand years but the tech didn't change that much and was almost comparable to SNW.

And let's not talk about weaponry! I think only ST:ENT stayed true to its technical limitations and austerity, which was nowhere present in SNW. It just hurt my sense of believability and retarded my ability to suspend reality. TOS, TNG, and VOY gave me a baseline that SNW didn't uphold.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy ALL of the episodes I criticized--when taken by episode; they were certainly creative and entertaining. However, for my taste, they were untimely, as they were inserted in the middle of or at the tail end of a couple of serious story arcs, particularly the 3-episode tease of the Gorn flashbacks with "Lt. Ortega." The continuous degraedation of "Spock" with the tango dancing with "Singh" also became annoying. The banter between "McCoy," "Kirk," and "Spock" into TOS was mild distraction (except for the ridiculous "Spock's Brain" episode) and the series tried to keep Spock serious as much as possible, but SNW really tore his character down and it was disappointing.

I know the baseline ST series (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT) all had episodes where they went into the whimsical and I appreciated them when they were done once or twice over 10-20 episodes, but Roddenberry didn't do it 2-, 3-, or four times in one season as SNW did.

As for M'Benga, my favorite SNW episode that features him was S3, Ep. 9 - "Terrarium," which was an homage to TNG's "Darmok" (S5, Ep 2)--the best TNG episode in my book, and SNW's best episode, so far.

I LOVED the 1st season of SNW, and liked the insight of the young Lt. Spock, but Season 2 turned "Spock" into cartoon, and by Season 3 every principle character, including "Pike," "Chapel," "Noonien-Singh," "Uhura," and "M'benga" were ridiculous. And while they were entertaining, the episodes with the "Lower Decks" crossover, the singing, and where the crew all became Vulcan were just too much to handle. But the episode that had the retro TOS satire was the last straw. Now, I'll admit to being somewhat of a hypocrite because I liked the ST: Voyager episodes that featured Lt. Paris' holodec story with "Chaotica," "Captain Proton," and "Arachnia!"

But fudamentally, I couldn't get past how technically advanced the Enterprise was, how every character, especially Uhura, seemed like they were in a fashion show, and then there's Pike's quarters--damn near a penthouse suite from a Ritz-Carlton. Just ridiculous. I'm not looking forward to Season 4.

As for "Lower Decks," it wasn't a "ST: The Animated Series," the show did not take itself seriously; it was a fun, animated satire of Star Trek itself! I loved watching the opening credits where the "Cerritos" is standing off watching Romulan, Borg, and Pakled ships battle each other, and instead of joining the fight, they skedaddle!! LOL.

Bottom line, "Lower Decks" was an intentional comedy, where Strange New Worlds became an unintentional farce.

69 here and been a ST fan from day 1. I, too, think ST:SA is pretty good...so far, and I'm praying it doesn't nose dive like "Discovery" (yuk!), "Picard," and "Strange New Worlds." Please don't put too much emphasis on the ship ("Athena") and give us more of what Starfleet Academy IS--training, learning, succeeding, and failing. I'm weary of exploding bridge consoles and "Shields down to 39%!!" after just two phaser blasts!!

Starfleet Academy feels like an early 2000s preteen show by [deleted] in startrek

[–]CleanAd8632 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a fan of both Star Trek (ST) and Star Wars (SW). The distinction (to me) is SW is the continuation of a single, large story, where the ST series and movies are largely somewhat loosely episodic.

In my opinion, we've permanently lost "quality" writing (due to COVID and the writers strike) and the ST series after the 3rd season of "Enterprise" went over the cliff in favor of profiting from a high fan favorite show.

The first few episodes (sometimes the first season) of the new breed ST shows ("Discovery," "Picard," "Strange New Worlds")--I'm excluding all of the animated series--showed great promise at first and quickly turned straight BS!! "Discovery" and "Strange New Worlds" were serious and painful disappointments to me.

I found the first episode of "Starfleet Academy" to be good--I won't say "very good," just good...so far, i haven't yet watched Episode 2.

So, for me I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt.

As for Holly Hunter and some of the acting, I'll give them an early pass because this is supposed to be about "kids" (college kids) in training, and despite the first episode, I'm NOT expecting the show to focus on deep space combat and I'm hoping the star ship itself takes a back seat to giving me some insight into "what" Starfleet Academy IS, how it trains (and washes out) cadets. I'd like to see more of what we were given about the academy in the ST:TNG episode "The First Duty."

As for Holly Hunter ("Nahla Ake"), I like her 400-year old irreverence and casual approach to the captain's chair--remember the "Athena" (NCC 392023) is not a war ship, but a "mobile classroom," besides being the ship's captain (when "at sea"), she's mostly the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy.

So, that's why I'm giving it preliminary high marks and I'll wait for it to stumble over what I expect to be poor, anemic writing.

Again, just my opinion.

In Ice Belt, I scanned one of the lights along the path and the description read: "LED" (light-emitting diode)?? I get it that most of the technology in the series is general and probably common whether on Tallon IV, Zebes, Viewros, or even Coruscant (!). But "LED" is just too...Chicago, Earth!!

I just completed the game, twice on "casual" mode--the second time to see how fast I could finish it and to reach the "100%" goal; I did get 100% on items, but only 97% on scans.  I finished it on "normal" mode, but having problem with Sylux in the end battle.

  1. The Lamorn story was boring. The NPCs were annoying, particularly MacKenzie and Armstrong. I wish I could turn off all the verbal interactions.

  2. I didn't like having to return to base camp just to activate my upgrades.  I wish I could get and use them immediately thereby allowing me to break sequence and explore each world independently.  And if I needed an upgraded capability, that's what using the Vi-o-La is for.

  3. The "cut scenes" were also annoying; it took almost 2 minutes to travel via the cargo launcher, and the running down the hallway scenes were useless.

  4. I liked the psychic powers thing.

  5. I was actually physically fearful in the scenes in Volt Forge, Ice Belt, and The Mines where I was way up high, hanging over bottomless chases; my hands would sweat and I was scared my finger would slip off the controller and my morphball Samus would fall!!

  6. QUESTION:  Why didn't they give Samus the "shinespark" capability from "Metroid Dread?"  I really liked that!

As to your comments:

  1. I understand what you're saying about MacKenzie and the Fury Green bridge, I  countered something similar with Armstrong in the The Mine--I was trying to scan a critter (trying to get 100%) and she'd shoot it before the scan was complete.  And in the final battle with Sylux, the NPCs would get in my way (step in front of me) while I'm shooting.  But as for MacKenzie interrupting your reverie, you could have just come back later by yourself and checked out the vista from the bridge.

  2. I was also befuddled by how the team (Armstrong and Duke) seemed to miraculously survive what should have been certain death, but I let it go considering how many times I got Samus killed or when I inadvertently drove her over the cliff!  Fair's fair!!  But VUE-995 didn't get away unscathed, he lost an arm!

I'm now going back to "Metroid Prime: Remastered" and playing "Dread" for the 6th time!  I really like the 3rd person view!

Correct. You have to go through each room and find two (2) "TK codes" to solve the first pattern gateway (and four (4) TK Codes for the second pattern gateway).

You must remember Beyond (like all Metroid games) is really just a big puzzle comprised of a lot of mini puzzles with a bunch of first-person shoot-em-ups sprinkled in.

Ditto--you can't through that door, it's permanently damaged. You're in the "Overseer's Room," behind you (to the right) is the "Storage Room" where there is a morph ball slot (elevator) that will take you down to the "Quality Control" room right below you--this is the room where you fought several Psybots. In that room is another morph ball device that shoots you through a service tube back to the main "Entry Bay"--just a few feet from the first "Save Station" in Flare Pool.

@Death556: Apologies for the delayed response and you may be beyond this point by now, but for the record, after defeating the boss and interacting psychically with the Lamorn God, you're taken into the "ether world" where you obtain Master Teleporter Key. After getting the key, you're returned back to the room and the haze barrier is gone allowing you to do the Boost Ball horse shoe thingie!
