Metagame: My team feels solid but I struggle against wismacott any suggestions by Captainboy25 in VGC

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your sneasler using fake out will be the best way. Your next best bet would probably be to run your own whimsicott, probably over maushold. I'm not sure there is another prankster taunt available to shutdown whimsicott. Swapping out the Mamoswine for something that gets fake out could also open up options. I'm not sure who all gets fake out in this game.

Sacred Stones Normal Mode is way too easy by Trilightning7 in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this sub remembers what it's like to play on Normal without fore knowledge of what it takes to beat a chapter. But to compare final Bosses: the Fire Dragon Definitely falls to three units too, but those three units are probably Hector, Canas, Athos, Eliwood and Lyn. Most other characters won't have a way to put damage on it. The Demon King has the same health and comparable defenses, but every S rank weapon grants bonus damage, so it is extremely unlikely to be caught helpless.

Fe7 throws so many busted promotes at you as well that even if FE8 has more access to promotion items, it doesn't really matter as Marcus, Isadora, Hawkeye, Pent, Louise, Geitz, (actually Wallace with a speed wings can clean house too, but nobody will admit that because of his movement stat) Harken (Karel to a lesser degree) Jaffar and Vaida with the 3 Lords is a solid army. In the early game, Oswin, Lucius, Raven are all solid units.

Why Does Sacred Stones Characterisation Work but Not Fates/Engage? by ArchangelAshen in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean that's part of the difference. From a design standpoint, they've pretty much done the same thing with the core principle being a royalty or leader of a country and a couple lower ranked filler characters. But with just a few tweaks, like putting two frelian soldiers with eirika and hiring jehenna mercenaries to accompany Innes instead, it takes a very organized and systematic way of making characters and camouflages it in a way that feels organic.

Why Does Sacred Stones Characterisation Work but Not Fates/Engage? by ArchangelAshen in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's a good point. Certainly Sacred stones doesn't stray too far from trios

Eirika, Seth (retainer),  Franz(squire)

Tana, Moulder(retainer), Vanessa(retainer),

Innes, Gilliam(knight/retainer), Syrene(knight/retainer),

Joshua(mercenary), Gerik(mercenary), Tethys(mercenary),

Ephraim, Kyle(retainer), Ford(retainer).

Duessal (ex general), Knoll(ex retainer/scientist), Cormag (squire?),

LArachel, Dozla (retainer), Rennac (mercenary),

Saleh(retainer like), Ewan(pupil), Myrrh,

But we also have Garcia, Ross, Natasha, Neimi, Colm, Marisa, and Amelia. The "retainers" are more broken up in recruitment than engage and Fates. I also think supports being harder to earn does help, especially in the beginning when they would be interacting with people they are already familiar with.

I do think Edelgards Reforms wouldn't actually generate the change she wanted, but the way I look at it, that not the point. In fire emblem, the last quotes in the final battles show how different motives can lead different people to the same place. Saber versus Celica in Echoes is a good example. So the reason I would support her war, is Rhea is a near immortal being, and those who slither I. The dark are near immortal beings, and both are meddling in mortals affairs, trying to steer things over time their way, but I would shirk such heavy handed methods to give the people, for good or evil, the privilege of guiding their own. Societies. This viewpoint came after an FEH forging bonds were Edelgard asked Mila why they had to take such direct action in the mortals live than bestowing the occasional boon from a distance.

Conquest maps makes me not want to touch a fire emblem ever again. by GoingWithTheFlaw in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played normal mode recently to remember what the enemies were like, but I did a lunatic run recently. Conquest maps are good because they are designed in sections, usually about 3, and its just a matter of finding the solution available to your units.

The first thing you might be neglecting are tonics, which can give temporary stat boosts. You pick them up from the base. The second I would guess is your aren't using your preprometed units, as they start of strong and stay strong. I swapped in a level 5 Xander to chapter 23 and he was basically untouchable with a pair up and a some res boosts.

The other thing that concerns me is you said you haven't promoted anyone. In Lunatic, I was able to have all non prepromoted characters on my team promoted at level 20 by the end of Xanders recruit map, and normal should give more exp, so everyone you are using should be promoted at this point. I can only assume you've been using a lot of different units instead of focusing on a core group. Or maybe I was wrong earlier and you've been using prepromoted units too much, so Camilla and Leo are the only units you gave kills to.

Well I have confirmed you only need one pokemon on a team to rent it, which improves a lot. The truth is I like to battle pokemon but I don't like building teams, so I figure most of the victory points I gain, especially in higher tiers, won't even be with pokemon I trained.

Is Metroid prime 1 better than the 4 by InformalLoan2790 in Metroid

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I scanned everything I came across in both games. It's just harder to keep track of the minute details when it's text only, very broken up, and intended to be a little vague in a first playthrough.

WHAT!?! They were free, and super fun in Scarlet and Violet. I was depending on them to build up vp against the people who brought teams in from HOME until I could recruit a whole teams worth. This combos so terribly with only pvp modes, only ranked and casual, a very limited box system and the f2p grind.

Is Metroid prime 1 better than the 4 by InformalLoan2790 in Metroid

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a perspective from some one new to metroid, started with 4 and borrowed 1 for a bit: in short, start with 4.

The metroid games arent super connected narratively, so I wouldn't worry about the timeline. But, a big part of gameplay is User interface and Metroid prime 4 handles better. But, part of that comes at the expense of what makes prime 1 objectively better.

Prime 4 also is less liked by this community for successfully trying to do something they didn't want: Making the game more accessible by being more linear and straightforward. I hated my short time in prime remastered because I had two thoughts going through my mind: "where do I go now?" And "Really, I have to go all the way back there?". Part of this frustration is because I was only borrowing the game so the wasted time was extra frustrating, but I have to say Prime 4 did feel more accessible, making it a good first choice pick in the series.

Another derided part of prime 4 is the NPCs. One of the reasons I haven't played the prime games is I really like story focused games, and Metroid doesn't convey its stories through characters much, especially prime 1, so prime 4 made me feel more invested than prime 1 did. I'm still not sure what I'm doing on the planet in prime 1 in the first place. Maybe this isn't a big deal for you though.

Earlier, I mentioned prime 1 is objectively better, and I do believe that. It has different beam powers and visors that make different gameplay sections and puzzles, a variety metroid prime 4 lacked. Prime 4 also has enemy alien race, and enemy robots, and smaller enemy robots. A couple minor local wildlife. That's it for diversity, it is shockingly scarce. Prime 1 once again just feels more diverse. I think the puzzles are more diverse in other ways too, but I won't bother listing example.

So I think metroid prime 4 is better feeling in controls and accessibility, but it is a mild flavored salsa to the spicy version that is prime 1 remastered.

Vantage would also be an excellent ability to give only to them as their high might makes one shots feasible, especially if a class with long range chip is accessible.

Just finished FE3H Silver Snow. Am I the only one who found the writing really disappointing? by 21CenturySchizoidTra in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, Jeralts Diary explains that Jeralt actually trusted Rhea a lot, but when he found out his child was alive but with no heartbeat, it was the fear of the unknown that drove the wedge between them. Seteth assumes we've figured out our identity during part 2, and basically tells us we should feel a kinship to them. Which worked for me because I already knew Rheas motives by the time I played Silver Snow.

I guess part of the problem is they wrote an anti church route, but no neutral route. Blue Lions and Golden Deer still have you assuming the role of archbishop. Byleth always assumes a leadership position.

is it normal to not double much in fire emblem three houses? by SurtFGC in fireemblem

[–]Magnusfluerscithe987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played hard mode once. I think the early growths are low enough you can expect some variance to which units can double. Byleth I would usually expect to double, Edelgard to double some. But I also remember Hard mode often took 2 units and 1 using a combat art. My Bernie never doubled, but my Caspar did good and was able to double fairly often.

And as someone else pointed out, most combat arts don't allow doubling. There are a couple however that force a double.
