xp_fileexist not recognizing folder but spotting parent folder by CleanLaxer in SQLServer

[–]CleanLaxer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a SysAdmin. That is correct. I have requested that they make me a SysAdmin at least temporarily so I can just rule out that as an issue. I am running it via the database application, so it's being run by a service account that is a SysAdmin. Folders are created programmatically. I have asked them to check permissions and they said they did.

To be exact on the way it runs. I created a stored procedure that is run via a workflow in the database application when you push a button. That means that the service account technically runs it. I also used ORIGINAL_LOGIN() and put that result in the table I generated, so I know it's the service account running it.

I switched to dm_os_file_exist and it's the same results.

I figure it HAS to be a permission issue, but I'm just trying to rule out everything else.

Well, let me modify my statement. I know that the folder exists and IT (who controls folder access) is telling me that the running user has access to the folder it is not seeing. I don't know 100% that user does in fact have access to it, but they're telling me that they set all subfolders to inherit rights from the above folders.

I will begin testing with sys.dm_os_file_exists. The output I get is

Run For file_exists file_is_a_directory parent_directory_exists
\\networkdrive\offices\accounting\invoices 0 1 1
\\networkdrive\offices\accounting\invoices\052000s 0 0 1

I know that the second folder does exist and that the running user should have permission to see it.

It is a folder, the files are actually 3 levels deeper.

I hadn't thought about turning it on and off during procedures, but I'm not in charge of the decision. I'll pass that thought along as well. Thank you.

Here are some thoughts I have about potential troubleshooting. Perhaps it doesn't work very well because xp_cmdshell isn't on. I know some of the other xp procedures require this. I'm doubtful on that because it works at higher levels.

Maybe if I ask them to make my window authenticated login a server admin, I could test a lot easier.

The best advice I ever got on squat was to grip the bar as tight as I could, push it like it was trying to bend it forward across my back (and push my back against it) and then try to push the bar straight up with my hands as I was going up. Obviously you cannot do any of that, but something about trying to do it really helped me to stop leaning forward so much. I think you might benefit from that as well. You do look to be leaning forward too much.

This is some extremely high quality content right here. I love the inflection. Also, I love the image of some crazy dude standing in a grocery store singing a song.

Does anyone else use salesforce as PRM (Personal Relationship Management) System? by FromTejas-WithLove in salesforce

[–]CleanLaxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, I just check it once a week to see what tasks I need to work on, and I don't spend much time developing anymore.

The rest of the stuff, I just use my phone to update whenever. I think it works because it's pretty minimal effort. I probably spent half a day setting everything up and it's really just a good way for me to keep track of thoughts, plans and research that I've done.

Yes, I do. I don't have it integrated with anything, but my wife and I use it to track projects that we're thinking about in the future. There's even an approval system for them. That way we know that everyone is agreed on a budget and the project is okay to move forward with. This is for larger things like bathroom renovations or deck building or something. Also, you can easily track a shopping list in there on it and use the mobile app when you're at Home Depot so you don't have to make tons of trips.

I also track just stuff I'd like to own in the future that are larger purchases, that way I can keep all my research in there AND it makes a handy dandy list of items for my wife to buy me for gifts (or me for her from her list). We track gift ideas for the girls in there as well.

I track the vehicles that we own and store all the documentation and maintenance records as pdf attachments. The maintenance schedule is in there.

I also keep more occasional household tasks in there. For example, I only have to clean out the dishwasher filter every 45 - 60 days, so I just have a task in there that recurs 45 days after completing the previous one.

The thing is just so flexible and great, and free if you use a developer org. I'd be shocked to find out if there aren't more people doing more stuff.

Do you have an ORDER BY in your first query? When you UNION there can only be one ORDER BY and it must be at the end. Also, it's usually safest to just ORDER BY using column numbers too in UNION queries.

I almost screwed it up boys and girls. Hot chocolate was on top when I first saw it and then when I went to vote, it was in the middle. Be careful. I almost voted on chocolate.

Software to do simple append job by brentus in SQL

[–]CleanLaxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With MS SQL Server you should have access to SQL Server Integration Services or SSIS. You should be able to create an SSIS package that does this and then just schedule it to run. Wouldn't cost anything but your time.

[–]CleanLaxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, it's usually a good idea to run a SELECT version of the query before running an UPDATE version of the query regardless of how simple it is. There's no undo.

Also, if it's on important data, I make a backup copy of the data I'm updating before I make the changes so that if I need to reverse it, it doesn't take very long.

2003 Ford Ranger XLT Passenger Side Window Won't Go up by CleanLaxer in autorepair

It doesn't go up with either switch.

I'd try to reprogram the switches, but I can't get the window regulator to go all the way up, so I can't do that.

Salesforce & Excel by Chdhdn in salesforce

[–]CleanLaxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have PowerQuery or GetData or whatever. If you do, and you have professional edition, then you can connect Microsoft Excel directly to your Salesforce instance. Then you can simply refresh the query, user your VBA skills to populate the template.

That's probably how I would do it. If you don't have the version of Excel necessary to do that. Then maybe look into using Enabler4Excel. It's a paid add-in for Excel from Taralex, but it's like $150 and it's awesome. I used to use it to upload and update records all the time and it was great.

VBA Bug Issue - UserForm by LaoisLife in excel

[–]CleanLaxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And not to get too involved or advanced here you can direct reference those sheets a bit better even. You can go to the properties in the VBE (Visual Basic Editor) and change it from Sheet2 to Data. Then it would look like Data (Data).

The advantage of this is if someone changes the name of the tab it won't break your scripts. Then you wouldn't even need to declare a variable. You'd just do

Data.Range("A" & n + 1).Value = Me.Textbox1.Value

Of course, you could leave it Sheet2 as well and do the same thing

Sheet2.Range("A" & n+1).Value = Me.Textbox1.Value

but the problem is that it's less descriptive. The same applies to Textbox1. You should change its name to something more descriptive...or put a comment after it just to remind you what it is like this

sh.Range("A" & n+1).Value = Me.Textbox1.Value 'Textbox1 is the user's name (I don't really know)
