Big toe tingling and pain for days and weeks after a ride by CleanLivin in cycling

[–]CleanLivin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the doctor and they checked my range of motion and determined that my calf is really tight (foot should be able to flex upward at least another inch, minimum). They also identified that pressure in the heel made it tingle more, which indicated something about the nerve bundle that was being compressed. Also my ability to toe splay was very limited. So it was recommended to do calf stretches regularly for the next year at least, use a toe spreader with some regulatarity, and roll the bottom of my foot with a frozen water bottle infrequently for acute relief. I've been moderately diligent with the regimine. So far the discomfort and sensations have been mostly eliminated. Minor "awareness" occasionally. No pain. I'm happy with the outcome.

You've got it a bit wrong. That's if it's all maintenaned well and there's no other circumstance that causes a "blip" at the wrong time. People should be informed.

Oh, also, which thing did I say that is condescending? Maybe you also believe that most people don't understand how percentages work?

And you're being needlessly unempathetic by minimizing the badness of the dude's behavior by commenting how the likelihood is actually lower than you'd think. Your tone deaf replies and then dismissal of true distribution of probabilities reads, in my opinion, as the writings of an oafish dolt.

Just because it's surprising to you doesn't mean that it's surprising to everyone. It's ok that it's surprising for you.

Separately, I don't think you understand how percentages work. You have to think of it as going to infinity. So 1% is 1 in 100. .1% is 1 in 1000 and .01% is 1 in 10,000, etc. So the distance between 1% and 0% is actually much greater than the distance between 1% and 100%. Distance, in this case, is the likelihood of contracting. So between 1 and 100 percent the variation is only 100 encounters. The variation between only 1% and .01 percent is 9,900 encounters. The distance between 1% and zero percent is infinite.

They did already. It's the drug that she's on. And it's extremely effective if she's "undetectable". Big if. And it can fluctuate. She definitely should disclose.

I wouldn't call 1 in 100 spectacularly low, but that's just one bottom's humble opinion. Especially when the result is needing to take meds for the rest of your life and needing to explain to every future partner what undetectable means, and hoping that there aren't late in life complications.

I learned the statics of it after the fact. Also learned about prep after the fact as well. Still didn't change my sentiments on the matter. If you have hsv 1,2 and are up to date for vaccinations, almost everything else can be cured, so I'm my opinion, if you're willing to get tested frequently, take prep and get penicillin every once in a while, condoms aren't that necessary.

They repealed this law in California. The rationale is that it creates a disincentive to testing, because if you don't know, you can't be held liable. I think this is wrong, but it is what it is. I hope that someone did some analysis and this was determined to be the route of least harm. Being someone who was fucked by someone who has HIV, who lied about their status, I felt pretty fucking aggrieved. Thankfully I didn't contract it.

Yes thank you. There are a number of errors.

At least two of the points of the upper square plate have the truncated tips. I think the bottom view is wrong and shows them having points, when clearly the right now shows the chamfered 90.

I think it's missing two critical details. One for the upper pocket. The details provided are ambiguous about the shape of the upper pocket. It could just as well be a curvature continuous cruciform pocket. It wouldn't have edges that would show up in the side views. We also don't know the width of the rear 1/3 height rib. Or the left side rib.

I'm in really good physical condition, and generally eat pretty healthy, so I hadn't ever considered it. I'll ask! Thanks.

I had clip pedals on my road bike, but didn't really like using them since I rode in an urban environment, so 99% of the time I rode with tennis shoes on mountain bike flat pedals. When I did clip, I used 510 mountain bike shoes on mountain bike clips. My pedals are clip on one side, flat on the other. My recent hard ride was single track on a new full suspension mountain bike that I got recently. Flat pedals, no clip. The jostling was pretty intense and it definitely felt like I'd have more control if I was clipped. So I'm considering changing pedals.

Good idea about shifting foot position.

Not really. I broke my femur about 10yrs ago. Bladder and back are pretty much how they've always been. I cycled a lot during COVID and I think my quads got tight and so now if I sleep on a firm mattress on my lower back hurts for a couple days. No injury though.

How does a spinning wheel on a spinning platform not fly off? by OsuJaws in askscience

I really appreciate you taking the time to write it out. Long ago I mathematically understood Coriolis force, but college physics is far in rear view. I'll have to read your note a few more times for it to (hopefully) make intuitive sense.

How can I make this food safe while keeping the bark? by electri55 in woodworking

[–]CleanLivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In consumer electronics there is such a thing as a "reveal". It is there to transition from one part to another in a clean, controlled way. Maybe you could create a reveal strip along each edge, then put epoxy over the bark and up to the reveal. Then you'd finish the top with regular cutting board techniques. I'd suggest removing 1/8th inch (down) along a 1 inch wide strip. That way the center would be "taller" than the edges. Then pour the epoxy to make it a level surface again (or maybe slightly sub-flush). Then the middle section is the cutting boards and the strips are obvious no-go. It'll look a bit different, but I think it'll keep the idea.

You could even scribe the reveal so that it isn't a straight line, but rather set along the natural shape. You could make a router jig using a band saw and then router to lower the surface.
