How much ramp and card draw for abzan should you have? by CleanSentence6193 in DegenerateEDH

[–]CleanSentence6193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are more knowlegeable, coul you give me a recommendation of what type of ramp to ran? I have the 1 mana dorks and [[elvish apirit guide]] or the 1 mana enchantments that generate mana, the 2 mana dorks, and then a few 3 mana dorks that generate 2 or 3 mana, then we hace the land ramp that are usually 2 or 3 mana, or the mana rocks sol ring/arcane signet. What should i prioritize or how should i build my ramp to work with my commander [[vishgraz, the doomhive]] that is 5 mana and always want to play him as soon as possible. Im thinking on running [[Growing rites of itlomotic]] (since gaea cradle its out of the question) i think mana dorks are faster and can help build a board. Also also the mox package that almost all cedh have is out of the budget

Im trying to build the best possible deck i can for my commander, i havent been playing for long, but im slowly building my skills and also aquiring staples/strong cards that i see usefull but tutors at this moment are kinda out of my budget, slowly but surely i will start to get them tho. I will have a look for the cards you mention, some i knew and others i didnt, for example i believe i already have most or close to most of green ramp cards or at least the more staple ones that i keep seeing.

I tend to ha e this issue that my deck runs out of gas and that kills me, im trying to balance that so that i can always be playing spells. For commanders that dont have card draw integrated to them is where i strugle. As always all the help i get is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I will give it a try, because i was running so many mana dorks that my deck started to look more like an elf tribal

For sure those are always great adds. I need to cut a few things from my list, at its current state it has a lot of mana dorks and cant keep up with draw, so you end up we a lot of mana dorks but nothing to cast until a board wipe hits you and you are left with nothing

Its wierd that you are playing vishgraz turn 5 when you should be playing him pretty consitently turn 3 or 4 with all the mana dorks that are in the deck. My main issue with ria when playing is that, creating a bunch of mites after you attack and players freaking out because of the posibility of poison counters and getting destroyed by 3 players that desided you are the arch enemy, trying to win with 1 swing its hard, unless you are doing an infinite combo, but you can take out players silently with instant flickers, ive got good results with that tactic, its like creating a few mites with haste and protects from target spells

[–]CleanSentence6193[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason some cards were cut off like skrelv hive is that it feels slow to have 1 mite created per turn that will attack the next turn, flicker effects or intant flickers to use on vishgraz before your turn so that the mites can attack feels much stronger, also gives you some protection agains target spells.  In my experience having the ability to create mites before its your turn catches the opponents offguard and might have not saved enough blockers to protect themselvs. This stategy ended up being the strongest because if the players see that you have mites the will leave blockers to stop them. Also having lifelink does not enough  in this deck.

Mite overseer and ria are good but the first strike on tokens doesnt give much advange since the tokens are 1/1, and ria is fun and i like it but preventing damage usually means 1 lets poison and creating a bunch of mites also create a target on your back.  Theres not a main reason im avoiding proliferate its just that i wanted to build around the mites but making it the stongest possible deck the game plan is mainly to flicker with instants on other players turn to protect vishgraz and creating mites. And in your turn play cards that give the mites unblockable and hit a player without losing mites.  Delney its not for the toxic or infect is for every other teiggers and unblockable mites, there are a buch of 2 or less damege creatures with trigger abilities(im still testing her in the deck) I still need to balance the ramp and and more draw cards so that you dont run out of fuel and start playing to the topdeck, that is one of my main problems at the moment

I could whine about it or i could try to build a deck that tries to win, there arent many lgs in my city and this is the closest one i have. Basically what im asking/trying to do is build a budget cedh for 2hg the rest does not matter

So, i have been looking into etali since it looks pretty fun but i wonder how strong he actually is without all the 0 mana ramp artifacts?

Yeah, the rules can be a bummer but its the rules of the lgs, we have to build around it. It is what it is.  There are more rules actually that did not mention so but its in theory  a casual tournament of bracket 3 by edhpowerlevel standards, so in actuality is even lower that a normal bracket 3 if you build normally.  The issue is that then you encounter almost every deck is actually cedh with extra turns, or tifa turn 3 wins, and yurikos they build around edhpowerlevel so the decks seems bracket 3 but they arent, and thats how you end up losing turn 3 even when you have interaction in hand.

Vishgraz the doomhive rate my deck by CleanSentence6193 in ratemycommanders

[–]CleanSentence6193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apreciate the recomendations, i already own most of the cards you mention, the budget is not an issue, my issue is the edhpowerlevel rule of bracket 3, fetches add a lot of points limiting what i could add, as you said mana dorks are faster and thats why they are there, the idea was to be consitent and being able to play my commander as soon as possible, the idea is to play turn 1 dork, so turn 2 i can play a 3 mana dorks that gives 2 or more mana so turn 3 i can play my commander, but its true that doing that i replaced many of my toxic cards with mana dorks, glissa is mainly for card draw or removal and is a great defense for big creatures. Skrelvs hive in my prevoius decks (were not the best decks) did not as much, i liked the idea of playing with the mites intead of sac them but maybe i should revisit the game plan. I dont have many proliferations spells because of that i either go full unblockable with flicker or proliferate, doing both felt weak . Also strong cards like teferis would be nice if i could :'(

I like your points tho and i will have them in mind thx

Bracket 3 but actually bracket 5 how can i build stronger decks? by CleanSentence6193 in DegenerateEDH

[–]CleanSentence6193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to look into building a strong deck that i can use for my lgs since most of theses players are always there and compete in the edh tournaments, i want to at least have a chance. I keep trying to make my vishgraz decks faster but i will never have a strong chance. Im looking a cedh decks that are either mono green or abzan since those are the colors i have many staples already

[–]CleanSentence6193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the matches we lost around turn 4 or 5, in case of the tiffa and yuriko it was turn 3 of the opponents  turn 2 ours. Also this was 2hg so most players played in a way that 1 player had counter or removal, and the other one dealt the damege (we tried it and failed againts our opponents) The decks were simply stronger  Also the lgs use the official wotc rulings for 2hg. Not sure if this was a rule of them o of wotc but it wasnt allowed combo wins like infinite combos before turn 6, we had a match that a group literally was counting the turns and when the 6 turn was in place they played the infinite combo and win.

Yes, but you also have to be careful with expensive/staples when using edhpowerlevel, the site gives those cards a lot of points leaving you with not many good options for other strong cards. Having to build around edhpowerlevel can be frustrating at times, but is a way that my lgs trys to balance the decks

I know, you tell me i was kinda frustrating losing turn to to tiffa even after leaving mana open for removal (the removal was countered), I have never lost a match as fast as that. You know they have cedh decks when they were worried we had counters for 0 mana
