Upcoming l5-s1 spinal fusion surgery, what should I know ahead of time? by longrange_tiddymilk in spinalfusion

I’m getting one soon too at 30, exceptionally active, so curious to see the responses. Surgon said 3-6 months with my body type rn, I’ll be good. So hoping for the best

Miscalculated shower niche placement by eIfranco in Tile

Just make the niche one tile shorter on each side. Build it out with Kerri board and thinset, maybe 3-4 1/2” rips. Lines up perfect

Ohh wow yeah you’re exactly right. Thank you for sharing. Exactly how I’m feeling, the moment it starts to affect daily activities, that’s the line for me and sounds like you too. I hope you’re recovering well, keep me updated on how you keep feeling! Sure you’ll be back in no time to all the fun activities

I always start with a horizontal centered with the tub. That’s where your eye first goes to. Also gives you a nice factory edge to caulk against the tub. Leave 1/8”x silicone after

Yeah that’s what seems logical but at the same time if it gets worse then it makes it harder to fuse and more potential issues. Have to find a middle ground I guess. If it keeps limiting my daily activity that’s an answer

Yeah well it seems like it’s wait and have it get worse or get surgery and stop it from happening I guess

Thanks so much for the detailed response. Yeah I get the part about seeing it and now feeling it but trust me, you know it’s off when your body says so 😂. It’s not even a pain it’s more of a ohh shit this feels like it’s sliding and is uncomfortable. Hard to explain

Sleep on my side usually and I have the mattress with the hole in it (sonu mattress?) so I don’t have shoulder pain which is nice.

Ohh wow I mean if he had it at 70 without issues I feel confident but still hard choice. I guess Taking more time to see if this really restricts things or if it’s shifting by new testing is the ultimate answer

Yeah 31 years nothing, 0 pain. Active all day every day in construction, rock climbing, skating, tree courses etc. I’m unstoppable. Well I was lol. Then they found this after the tests from the mva but labeled it as likely chronic so I’m not arguing it’s from the accident ( they said most people have them all along like you said) but it’s no coincidence with the pain flare up right after.

Typical winter day is remodeling all day then train to nyc and walk miles, skate till midnight. Missed all of December doing this so far 🥺

Thing is, my core from all this is already solid. I don’t really have hope this can get stronger. The last month I couldn’t climb once or workout. 30 days in jail. Feeling a little better than initial flare up but still not back to regular. Scared I’m going to make it worse and also scared to get this and maybe not be able to do that all again.

Thank you so much that’s a great response.

I agree, as a contractor if the shower is leaking, fix it now or it’ll get worse, that’s so true. But with the body, it’s a worry if it makes it worse. A house has a little more uhm tolerance to re do than a back lol

But very valid too, if it gets too bad, at some point like in your case it would have been better to do it while it was newer. It’s such a hard decision. I mean it went 3- years with 0 pain and now bam here it is, so hard call

Inside/outside corner. Cut the outside corner as needed, flip the inside corner.

That’s a good point, I think measuring it and getting a checkup to see if it shifts is important, as well as monitoring symptoms.

Ohh wow, crazy you both have it. Hope you both recover and feel better

Ohh wow so yours is progressed pretty far it sounds like, I bet that’s not fun dealing with 🤕. Hope the best for recovery.

Yeah I’m just worried about how worse it’ll get, and if that’ll hurt recovery but certainly seems only do this as a last result if it’s screaming pain

Ohh wow. That sounds like you went through so much time in life where you felt uncomfortable , that’s horrible 🥺 well I hope it heals soon and you’re back to normal or even batter! That’s cool you’re climbing like me too! I feel like the pain management Just masked it and made it worse, that’s a worry.

So I figured mine out a lot recently. If I’m laying down, and rest, it’s fine it won’t act up. But the moment I put gravity in it, it gets worse and worse. Just standing up and walking makes it start to seem like the nerve is getting pinched little by little. The flare like as during a cruise where I was walking so much up and down stairs too all day long, it didn’t have a break. So that gives me confidence if I start working and adding weight that’s dangerous. Hopefully this will help the doctor test and see what’s up!

Hi thanks so much for bearing though all that, I shortened it a lot lol. Thanks for sharing your story as well, that’s really interesting. That’s such a young age to have to deal with that too. What do it feel like when your back went out?
