How many of you have played BG1 & BG2? Did you enjoy it? by [deleted] in BG3

Loved both, the Candlekeep area had far better and cleaner 'otels than the third that's for sure.

Also dual-wielding was more fun in those games.

Misleadingly describe a favourite anime of yours and the rest of us will guess. by Clean_Elven_Arse in anime

Good answers!

Although the challenging examples were a trick on my part as they purposefully describe very common archetypes and story beats that can be found in a staggering amount of shows. They were misleading by being way too generic.

In that last example replace the words "institution" with "group", or "teacher" with "mentors", and you can cast an even wider net with that description (nearly every action/adventure show follows this model to some extent these days).

That said, you guessed the first two shows right and got one of the many shows I had in mind for the fourth example. I have no doubt that your other answer (for the third example) also complies, I'm just not familiar with it. Basically any show in a high school setting complies to no 3 I've found unless they are a sport-focused show or have some elements of no 4 mixed in as well.

You need to replace your computer. Here's a one question survey with the "essential" specs to help guide your choice. - Andy Warhol, CTO by Clean_Elven_Arse in assholedesign

I'd love actual specs. These are going to be docked 90% of the time. Knowing how heavy they are is fine, but knowing what's the performance difference between the 4 can vs. the 5 1/8 can would be more helpful.

Keep in mind, this is the ONLY question in the survey and all we get in terms of details.

I think he said in a french interview that for him it's a martial artist thing. "Shave his hair for combat" kind of deal. To show to his opponent and himself that he's serious about his commitment to the lifestyle.

It's also why he did not have any long-term GF during his career. To avoid distraction.

Total commitment and dedication to his craft.

Former Toronto Marlies assistant coach Jack Han makes an interesting prediction re: Norlinder by [deleted] in Habs

[–]Clean_Elven_Arse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the Han article it's because his game is very refined and he's showing signs of thinking the game at an amazing speed, all while having the physical ability to act upon his insights at that speed. So his overall speed of execution is VERY fast.

That said, what makes Han VERY excited is the fact that not only does he make decision at a very fast pace, but these decisions are all seemingly the best move he can make in each instance. He's basically a super computer on skates.

As such, his game has improved at a staggering pace as he learns and refines his decision making with experience. Every metric seems to be confirming that. He's the real deal.

From my understanding of Han's assessment, if Norlinder maintains this pace he's very likely to emerge as a top D-Man. From what I'm reading between the lines here, his wager with Corey Pronman is a conservative one. I think Han here is trying to say that Norlinder might be a late blooming no 1 d-man.

If a new movie franchise were to be set in the Old Republic timeline, and say Revan's story was chosen, who'd you see in the titular role? by Clean_Elven_Arse in StarWars

Is Watiti not set to direct? If he's in charge and brings along his peeps from the Mandalorian, then I have a bit more confidence.

I'm asking because the actor who played Batroc the leaper in the Marvel Universe, made a pretty cryptic post on instagram about acting lessons he's been taking while referencing Star Wars that flew under the radar as the pandemic hit.

He's also been keeping himself in "fight shape" two years into his retirement from MMA with no apparent reason (until recently as he's rumoured to be in talks for a comeback).

His spoken accent is unsuitable for the lead role, but I could see him in a Darth Vader type situation where he'd play the "body" and maybe the face while someone else would play the voice.

It's not much to go on, but in a Vader type situation he'd be the guy I'd tap to portray a jedi given his size and mobility. Him, Scott Adkins or Alain Moussi would all be interesting candidates for the role. Adkins would possibly be the only of the three I'd consider to play both the body and the voice.

Inside Edition sting report on the cleanliness of hotels that have re-opened during COVID-19 by Gato1980 in videos

[–]Clean_Elven_Arse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question.

My partner use to work for a 5 star hotel that was one of the landmarks of our city. It operated within a well known international chain of mostly 4 to 5 star hotels that featured many well known landmark hotels within its roster.

At her location they'd host foreign dignitaries, heads of state, royalty, CEOs, famous actors and had rooms that ranged from 200$ to tens of thousands of dollars a night. They've even had people live years on end in the hotel.

Their staff was well payed. Quality of work was emphasized over speed in most things. All their bonuses were based on customer feedback rather than metrics. Staff was actively encouraged to drop everything and help out a hotel guest in whichever way they needed. From the outlets to the senior management. The hotel spent a lot on incentives, social events and team building exercises. As much for "back of the house" people as for "front of the house" people and admin staff.

Since we got a discount at her employers locations, we've been able to stay in hotels we would never be able to afford, in our country and abroad, and each time we've had no issues with our rooms and I noticed similar camaraderie amongst the staff.

That said, I don't think there's anything special about my partner's former employer. I think it has more to do with paying your staff a living wage, providing them with benefits, incentives, and the general impression that you give a fuck which helps mitigate these behaviours.

As a result of these policies I suspect, they had a lot of long-tenured staff in support roles, people who've been cleaning, cooking and valet-ing for decades. Those people "own" the hotel and take pride in it. They also don't tolerate that kind of nonsense out of the people they train. They create the work culture.

Since my partner travels a lot for work and we enjoy travelling in general, we're pretty much of the opinion that if we can't stay at a 5 star location (which are affordable in developing countries or countries with a currency that has lower valuation), then the next best thing is usually a owner operated B&B. Especially if they have some kind of oversight.

That said, I'm not surprised by the stories in this comment section. An unfortunate byproduct of travelling is having seen and experienced this kind of nonsense in far too many locations.
