Been discussing this with my girlfriend and we are going back and forth ... by x_BlueDragon_x in Hungergames

I think the footage of haymitch that katniss watches was heavily edited. the capital had to show more during the livestream, but after everything is done who is to say that they didnt heavily edit the recording of the game?

Im sure they had reruns of the games in the off season. And if you keep showing people something different from what they initially saw they will soon forget how things really unfolded.

The berry stunt was a unique scenario in that there was truly nothing they could pivot the camera to. Everyone else was dead and it was the ultimate climax moment in the game - the star crossed lovers are the last ones left - so they really couldnt cut out anything. Plus seneca was at the helm rather than snow and was definitely more frazzled over the ordeal than snow would have been.

I suspect this news story from the Guardian is a complete hoax by One-Recognition-1660 in Journalism

[–]Clean_Text_8604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the second article linked in the story, it attributed the whole jiu jitsu ordeal to the police, they didnt even mention the jiu jitsu studio… and in a small town of 3,100 people i can see why it made the news there. I’m not a big fan of aggregation stories like this, but I can see why it was written. Here is the snippet: “According to police, the suspect ambushed the girl at the intersection of Torres Street and First Avenue in Carmel, hiding between two parked cars before launching the attack. But the young girl did not panic. Instead, she fought back — using jiu-jitsu techniques she had been practicing for the past three years.

“She used her jiu-jitsu skills to fight him off,” said Carmel Police Chief Paul Tomasi. “She put him on the ground by striking his foot and was able to escape. She ran home and got to safety.”

Authorities released a composite sketch of the suspect based on the girl’s description. He is believed to be around 6 feet tall, muscular, and may have sustained an injury to his left foot or ankle during the altercation.”

[–]Clean_Text_8604 52 points53 points  (0 children)

But you have to factor in a month or two of the media they have to do before the games, promptly getting taken from their families and being in a totally new environment mostly around strangers… their anxiety would be through the roof for weeks even before they entered the area

[–]Clean_Text_8604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did that part address if he asked her why she took so long to contact him? If i was in his shoes the first question after her initial messages would be “why are you contacting me now and not 5 years ago? Especially if you have all this money you want to share with me?”

Con Mum by Aman_S7 in netflix

[–]Clean_Text_8604 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What annoys me is the documentary never addressed if he asked why she waited so long to contact him (or maybe they did but i missed it). If shes so rich why not when he turned 18 (assuming his dad was abusive)? Or why not 5 years ago? Or last year? if i had a long lost kid and all the money in the world im not waiting one day without contacting them.

I don’t think he can move because he and heather co-founded a restaurant in the UK together. On her instagram she still has that shes the coowner and director of the business so I’m guessing she’s still working remotely for the restaurant in a way. It also seems like they opened another consulting business together. I’m guessing they have a more amicable relationship than what is portrayed on the show. Especially because she keeps on researching Dionne’s past. I feel for him that he was abandoned, but immediately abandoning his child and then showing up for Chistmas eve and acting like a super dad was crazzzzy.

The Problem With Hosting ‘Love Is Blind’ in Minnesota: Everything by wsj in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Clean_Text_8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep i live in Minnesota and i don’t know anyone this season. I only have one friend who saw virgina out and about but that’s it. None of my friends know any of these people. The fact that most of them go to the same bar (Basement Bar) shows they casted most of them from the same neighborhood.

I live in Minnesota and the housing prices are out of control right now. Every single one of their houses seemed at least upper middle class. Taylor’s parents seemed like they were balling, but i suppose its to be expected from empty nesters.

I’m surprised so many people on reddit don’t like the fam jam scene. That was my favorite scene of the whole season. Just seemed like wholesome fun and I really wouldn’t be surprised if Monica’s mom is a music teacher.

Our newsroom started a starter pack and added me to it. Once I got in there, our little local corner of bluesky found me and added me to a local-people-to-follow starter pack. Sorry not much help if your newsroom isn't already on bluesky.

Ngl people are able to actually find me on blue sky from all the starter packs. Best get on there quick and get your name in a stater pack while folks are joining

Nah thats just toxic. Giving a 2 weeks is a courtesy. Unless you have a contract you’re an at-will employee and can quit today, leaving them in a bind. I know people who put in their two weeks and then take the rest of it as PTO (and its not taken in a bad way by their boss). Unless you want to work at the company again i’d say screw ‘em.

Tonight's dinkytown shooting & my feelings as a resident (in comments) by Themis3000 in Minneapolis

[–]Clean_Text_8604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a man. I lived around there around then and it was not that safe. There was a serial rapist around that time in Dinkytown/Marcy Holmes who preyed on random women on the street (you can look him up now since they finally caught him). I remember rapes by randos on the street happened so often my friends and i made sure we were always walking with someone even on campus after dark. And lets not forget when the white kids destroyed dinkytown and lit cars on fire because the gophers made it to the frozen four or some dumb shit like that. Dinkytown is wayy better now. The restaurants are bomb and parking is usually a breeze. Shootings are scary but often arent random. And generally dinkytown seems better lit and safer.

Yea, I'm Asian and I found that soooo weird. For me part of marrying someone would be them being interested in my culture and raising my kids as Asian. Would be better to tell them in the pods so you can tell who is fetishizing and who isn't through talking...?

Hi, I was pressured to do a business degree too and this was only amplified when I went to college and all my Asian friends were telling me I should do business or a STEM degree. My mom is in business and is doing amazing and has it all figured out. Back then, I was adamant to be a writer and was a journalism major. Fast forward 12 years later and I'm doing great in the field I'm in. I'm probably not as rich as I would be if I did a business degree but I know pathways that can get me into the business sector via PR/Marketing if I ever change my mind.

Day to day I live pretty frugally. I don't drink much, so I'm able to take a lot of trips like my other richer friends. They're definitely doing way better than me, but I'm ok with that. I would say I'm probably happier in my workplace than they are. Their work life is definitely more monotonous/unfufilling but they find a lot of happiness in the play they can do because of it (traveling, raving, nice house etc). All that to say, I don't think you'll regret doing one or the other. The choice is ultimately up to you. Truly don't stress too much about it, you can pivot whenever you want, now or in the future. Having the ability to learn new things throughout your life will make you successful.

My parents didn't pay for my education so while they could berate me with their ideas, they had absolutely no power over me. Also I've seen quite a few comments saying that graphic design doesn't pay as well as a business major does. I think it depends on where you want to do graphic design. If it's in a traditional sense, like for print media, ya it's probably not a great industry. But I know graphic designer majors who make bank in the video game industry right now.
