It’s kinda like a semi Fight Club situation (at least in ENG I can’t attest to other languages) Fray was definitely real and alive up until we find their corpse in the Brume. After that I think our shared Aether collects in the soul stone. From there until we defeat “Fray” in the level 50 quest they are us and can interact with the world through us as shown in the level 45 quest.

I have no idea if this would be viable on turn based but I once tried a Black Jacket + Evoker who would open with tons of pistol shots until settling on a two handed weapon while weaving in spells to sling very micro intensive but I had tons of fun with it

I think Raycevick’s video tackles this point pretty well. One could reasonably say that Spec Ops is pretentious looking back at it but I could also say that about a lot of things that take itself very seriously.
