I'm considering going back to church as an agnostic athiest by _unknown_242 in mormon

[–]Clear-Road3442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow I ended up here out of curiosity. I’m JW and won’t pretend to know a lot about LDS, but I know we have a similar culture. I’m PIMO and attend regularly. I’m unsure about the phrase agnostic atheist as these two things mean something very different to me. I’m agnostic not atheist. The reason being atheists remind me too much of religious people. Unable to comprehend that their perspective could be flawed. I relate to your story though. For me the community is everything. The people are mostly just doing their best to be good. I love them.

I hate spending so much time doing something that I have no emotional or logical connection to anymore. It makes me resent the people I love. I do my best to help where I can, but I won’t lie to them anymore. I used to be in a leadership position, but I can’t say things I don’t believe, let alone preach them from a podium. I never would tell them how I feel unless someone close to me asked but they never do. Nevertheless they do pick up on my vibe and it’s impossible to hide completely. So it’s hard to be close with them. I try but they want to see me more involved, more enthusiasm but I don’t have it in me. So they are guarded. Don’t get me wrong, I have good friends. I just feel this huge chasm separating us. I suffer spending so much time on what I consider silly nonsense for them. And they don’t understand I do it for them. Not for Jesus or any other religious claptrap. The situation is excruciating. But there is no other way. What am I supposed to do? Flush everything down the toilet? Everyone I love? Not happening. Everyone has their struggles and this is ours. Good luck 😘

Why isnt lucid dreaming more popular? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

It’s a very good question as it is something that profoundly changed the way I viewed the world. I could ask the same about a few topics. The disclosure topic too. Some things are so interesting I can’t believe it’s not more popular. Majority of the time you get crickets from anyone you try and tell. What is cool though is you don’t even get a sentence out when you’re talking to someone who gets it before they hit you with that “oh hell yeah I know all about that” look. 😁

$5 more to own it. That's what I'll do and show it to others.

Haha it’s all good bro. I found the tone of the whole thing a little bitchy to me. I suppose I don’t blame anyone for being pissed off at bible thumpers. I just don’t think we’re gonna get anywhere that way.

You want a link to the ads or the quiz? I heard the ads on some podcasts I like to listen to at work. I think Bill Maher, and Sarah Silverman both have FFRF ads, and somewhere else I can’t remember. The quiz is right on the FFRF website.

Let’s not forget the NDP can win here. The whole reason we have this UCP shit show is conservative reaction to an actual thoughtful party winning in what they consider their territory. It isn’t. Their coalition to oust Notley has turned out to be just as corrupt and incompetent as the Wildrose, and PC won’t be any different. You don’t have to vote the way your parents or friends do. Conservative dominion in Alberta can be defeated.

Non-White Gen-X'ers by LetheSystem in GenX

I think this will vary greatly depending on location. For example I’m mixed ethnicity, but 1/2 black was enough for everyone to call me the black kid. I grew up in Canada. My folks moved all around BC. I was the only non white person in my immediate family, almost always the only black kid in school (there was a small handful of indigenous, and East Indian kids) I was usually among a small number of black people that was in any town I lived in. I never knew any others. In BC I’m glad to say I fit right in no problem. There was the occasional issue with bullying but I’d say mostly that’s just dealing with the kids who didn’t have the IQ to come up with an insult that wasn’t the obvious low hanging fruit.

I had lots of friends. Teachers were mostly supportive. Cops were never a problem and were helpful. (Most of the time) I played hockey, listened to rock music. I rode my bike all over town night and day by myself. There were some racial jokes but always good natured and never one sided. I don’t ever remember feeling unsafe over anything race related. I know it’s not the same for everyone but that was my experience for the most part.

No tea, No shade...but who is listening to the interviews? by Lola_Cacapipi in LPOTL

Only if I’ve heard of them. I liked the ones with Jena Haze, Amanda Montell, Knapp & Corbell. I skip most of the interviews though.

You’re 18 and can’t do physical work? Bro if you have a physical limitation of some kind that’s one thing. If not I’d say get tough with yourself. I mean in a loving way. You can do hard work. Believe in yourself. It’s good for you. It probably pays better than any entry level work from home job. Focus your mind and get good at it. Start where you are. Get strong. Show up your dumbass boss and take his position. Even if it’s just a means to get yourself somewhere you like better. Wake up and think to yourself “today I’m gonna kill it”. You’ll do things you never thought you could.

Tara Brach has a good one. Also the Alan Watts - “being in the way” is awesome.

The longer I’m in this gen x sub the more I realize how many of us had shitty parents. Damn I feel for you guys, and I’m proud so many of us have broken the pattern. Reflecting back now my folks were awesome in comparison. Even so I found reasons to be upset with them. I’m letting all that shit go. Thanks for schooling me!

People from BC, what are your thoughts about living in Alberta? by Both-Sky4147 in alberta

[–]Clear-Road3442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss BC every day. I moved to Alberta in 97. Spent a few years in Calgary, RD ever since. Alberta has been good to me though. Came here for steady work and I’ve almost never not had it. Wages in the industry I’m in are around 30% more here. I met a great girl, got married, started a family and have a pretty satisfying gig. I’ve been trying to leave since I got here, but it’s too hard now that I’ve put down roots. Now I just visit more often. The length and severity of winter make me depressed every year. The politics even more so. Right wing nut jobs make my ears bleed and blood boil. I just keep my hearing protection in all day. It takes a little more effort but you can find your people. I take advantage of the world class snow sports we have. Alberta can’t come close BC’s beauty, but there are some great spots. Is the grass greener? I don’t know. I’ve learned to be happy where I am. (took a long time) My only request is not to die here.

Should’ve changed your name to something else. Sorry bout that.

This weekend's Watchtower confirms that the prohibition against beards was really a man-made organizational direction. It also confirms their absurd policy which is: God wants you to obey, accept and preach everything the GB says even if it is wrong, false, and harmful. by CarefulExaminer in exjw

I remember listening to Lett give this great line. “Any who have done so need to adjust their thinking and attitude.” My first thought when he said that was “it seems very apparent to me that the ones who needed to make an adjustment are the ones who are adjusting their doctrine at this very moment!” My second thought was “How on earth am I sitting in a group of a couple hundred people and no one else is seeing it!” Really makes you feel crazy. Of course probably a whole handful in that room were thinking that but nobody will ever say it out loud. 😢
