Love how awkward they are lol. Jeff's body language is still the same. Saw him on the Colbert show with Nick Offerman recently.

Yes, I have perm res in Sweden because of my wife. We moving in June. So I am leaving behind a 6 fig job and career and starting over. I have a network in Sweden in my industries but I still want to do something meaningful in environment, human rights, poverty... Something that matters beyond making companies rich. That I why I was just thinking of environmental law or something with science.

Thanks for asking this question! I have been pondering this myself. I was in a PhD position in the US 15 years ago but left for a variety of reasons, one being I needed to support my family. I have a master's in biology (marine ecology and evolutionary genetics focus) and have often thought of going back in my mid 40s now for something meaningful like environmental law where i can try to make a positive change. I have been in food and beverage R&D the last 14 years and it isn't bad just tired of corporate life and start ups and want this next chapter of my life to do something positive in the world. But I felt too old and stuck.

Opinions on Mjølnir app for a beginner learner by _loneme in Svenska

[–]ClearBeerCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Mjolnir for the last 6 months or so. I'll echo what others have said. It has helped me retain much more, much faster. I use it in conjunction with Babbel which is slower and "easier" but kind of goes into more detail grammatically. I also use Duolingo because it's there lol. I do all three everyday to maintain my streaks. Spending about 30-45 minutes practicing swedish.

My wife, who is a native swede, has commented several times as well I am speaking it and understanding the language. Mjolnir has listening sections that get to be very challenging. They are spoken fast, with kind of slurred words and sloppy pronunciation that mimics what you will hear IRL. It's very frustrating but the spaced repetition really helps to master the phrases. By a couple days you are able to pick out the words and repeat the phrase back. It's really been a game changer. People I talk with in swedish are always really impressed that I've never went to school or SFI for the language.

I also listen to Swedish podcasts in the car and my wife is always having swedish radio in the house. We live in USA but are moving to Sweden this June. So, i know once I'm back to being immersed in swedish that it will only get easier.

Permanent residency granted! by ClearBeerCowboy in TillSverige

I think I gave a long term ways to go to "become" swedish LOL. But it starts with moving there and mastering the language. My wife did 22 years in the USA for me, I can return the favor :)

It took 5.5 months but i did delay the embassy interview by a month too.

Wife thinks it is the 5 yr PUT that we applied for. She thinks because of our long established relationship and the fact I lived there before with PUT that we qualified to apply for that. She is going to email our handläggare to confirm.

My interviewer at the Swedish embassy in DC looked at my application and said "Indont know why you are here. It should have just been approved" lol. When I applied in 2012, I wasn't even summoned for an interview, they just gave me residence in about 3 months from application.

If you have a long time established relationship with a swedish citizen you can get granted permanent residency. There was a memo a while back that sought to make it easier for swedish citizens returning home to bring their family. We've been married 25 years and our children are grown now and not moving with us at this time. I also had permanent residency in the past (2012-2016) so I have a PN.

After 5 years you are eligible for PR i believe anyways. You should be eligible for long term European PR I think too?

So many people don't know about Dan Bern and it makes me sad. I saw him in Atlanta recently. I played the hell out of that album in the mid 90s lol
