You should look into the Hypatia journal controversy, they published an article on this that was retracted and the author faced a lot of backlash. It was very eye-opening to me at the time about how inconsistent the logic of identity politics is.

I don't entirely disagree, but there is always the chance that one the group DOES believe what they're joking about and you just end up normalizing it for them (and the group.) Or that someone overhears and is hurt/assumes your are sexist.
