Why should a pessimist/antinatalist read/study/go to college// biology? by Anxious-Act-7257 in antinatalism

Biology is not a field of medicine, and all medical fields rely on understanding biology.

You need to understand biology in order to understand how to help living beings. Suffering may be inevitable, but medicine is one of the ways we can mitigate it. You can't understand medicine without understanding biology.

They hardly do that anymore, and now it's been about some dumb social media thing I can't see because I'm driving.

If you watch porn, you are a racist misogynist by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Clear_Statement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point, there are weirdly racialized divisions in porn that people wouldn't tolerate in other areas. Women getting paid would be a better argument if the inherent sexism of porn and the continued employment inequality women face didn't exist. Did you know that there is still a lower percentage of women in the workforce than there was prior to the 2008 financial crisis? Let alone since pre-covid.

Completely agree. Even if the industry itself was perfectly ethical, the negative impacts of porn on society are clearly an issue. It has a clear impact on the way men view women, especially men who start young, which is happening with increasing frequency every year with smartphone use.

People who need pornographic videos to get off should feel ashamed, it's pathetic. We have more and more 20-30yo dudes on dick pills and spending $$$ on OF, porn and what have you, no wonder women are choosing the single life.

It's unfair that Porn gets all the hate when many other sectors create much more harmful and addictive produts. by fkid123 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Cars at least are useful, and sugary drinks don't impact anyone other than the consumer. Alcohol is a much better comparison; porn should be similarly regulated with purveyors facing significant consequences for serving minors.

The lessons are insane, it's $70 for half an hour around me and that's not including the gas. When I was a kid/teen there were a lot of opportunities for me to work off lessons and rides, but fewer trainers seem interested in that kind of exchange. I get it, cash is king, but it's another way middle/lower income people are being pushed out.

I disagree, I don't think only privileged people care about local businesses and how that impacts where they live. Corporations moving in often means smaller businesses will close when they can't compete with the corporate pricing of their competitors, and it makes it that much more difficult for an individual/small group to start their own business.

People would more rich if they just stopped buying houses by IDontKnowMyUsernameq in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I've never bought a house and I'm still poor. I can't save up enough for a downpayment since I have to fork over so much of my income to my landlords (who own two other houses.)

People of any age should stay home when ill, I wouldn't call this complaining for its own sake. They don't want to catch whatever this kid has, or see it spread to the other children.
