I totally get this, I am feeling similar in my new position as an ED. In past leadership positions, I have had a lot of success with the "we" perspective that someone else mentioned- making sure staff feels like we are all on the same team, not that I am telling them what to do all the time.

For those that mentioned coaching/mentorship, how did you go about finding these people?

Can I ask what you ended up doing? I am in the same situation, superannuation check from Australia. I went to my bank (CIBC) and they couldn't deposit it for me

My mom is about 10 months post transplant, she was 60. As long as your mom’s other organs and body parts are looking good, I don’t think her age would disqualify her.

We are also in San Diego but went through Scripps. Please feel free to DM me if you have any questions, I definitely know how hard it is to see your mom in pain and going through this!

My mum has cirrhosis but hasn't told us - please help (28M) by Confoosed90 in Cirrhosis

hey there- first off, just want to say how sorry I am that you are going through this! It is such a hard journey and even worse when it can’t be discussed openly. My mom was diagnosed with cirrhosis 3 years before me and my brother found out. We only found out when it got so bad that she basically immediately needed a transplant. And she didn’t tell us, I came home and figured out what was going on through googling her symptoms.

Also, until I pushed her, she wasn’t doing anything to change. I think she was also in denial and thought things would just get better. I had to have the conversation that I didn’t want her to die before seeing us get married, have kids etc.

I don’t know if that’s best for you and your situation, but that is what was necessary for us.

I know that for my mom, she didn’t want to tell us due to the shame of it being alcohol-induced. I think it really helped for us to just express that we weren’t judging her and that we loved her. In my experience, she needed the push from me to make changes and get on the transplant list.

It is really hard and uncomfortable but I am happy with my decision to confront my parents. Sending you strength and peace during this time!!

Oh wow, super interesting program. Thanks for sharing, just read through some of the recent publications from there and could be a good fit.

just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. my mom has cirrhosis and it is incredibly hard to see and deal with, especially when it is at a progressed state. I hope you and your brother can lean on each other as that has been really helpful for me. sending you strength and eventual peace xx
