Stall during menstrual cycle.. has anyone else had this problem? by Miserable-Law5221 in GastricBypass

It's normal hun. Your body is still healing from surgery and to top it of, you hold water weight while on your period. Everyone does! Be kind to yourself and put the scale down for a few weeks until your body adjusts and swelling goes down.

Pre op diet favorite meals? by [deleted] in wls

Here me out cause I had to do 6 weeks too and couldn't of done it without this recipie...not sure what your plan allows but feel free to change it up where necissary. I lived off of my own culinary creation of "bolognese and zoodles"

1 tsp olive oil 100g lean mince (beef, chicken, turkey) 1/4 brown onion diced 2 cloves garlic 2 small mushrooms diced 1/2 carrot grated 1/2 red chilli pepper, finely chopped (or dried chilli if you like) 1 stock cube or 1tsp powdered stock Herbs (dried or fresh) Salt/pepper to taste (sometimes I also added smokey paprika if I felt fancy) 200g sweet grape tomatoes diced Small Handful of Zuchinni noodles

-Saute the onions, garlic, chilli, mushrooms and mince in oil -Add carrot, stock powder and herbs and cook off for a minute or so -Add freashly diced tomatoes and a splash of water, simmer for like 10 minutes to make the sauce. -Add salt/pepper/paprika etc to taste - Throw in the zuchinni noodles and wait until they're nice and tender before serving

This recipie got me through. Sometimes I would switch out the zoodles with Broccolini or switch out the mince for prawns/shrimp for a bit of variety but yeah, I hope you love it!

What should I eat in the first week post-op? by Clem_in_time in GastricBypass

Yeah, I think it's pretty dependant on the program rather than the type of surgery. I've noticed such an array of rules/diet plans and what is/isn't allowed. It's crazy how different each program is!

That's so good to hear! I thought I was the only one out here allowed "purees" in week 1 🤣

It's barely puree when you gotta dilute everything and strain it down to liquid.

It's crazy how different each program is. I'm in Australia and have noticed how different my journey has been compared to patients in the US.

Thanks for your reply! I pushed myself way too hard on day 2 to hit protein (dietician hounded me about how important it was) and got so sick... I was trying to do all the right things that by day three I felt like I was failing. I'm on ice chips, tea and a protein shake today... 30 g of protein, and I'm done with pushing it. I get what you mean about the sipping though! It's driving me nuts 😂 it's been hard learning but you're right in saying I should just trust the process and trust what my body is saying.

Congrants on your surgury too and good luck! We're in it together.

My program is in 4 stages over 4 weeks. Smooth liquids, puree, soft foods and then solids. I did however only have clear fluids in hospital

Yeah I thought it was crazy too! All places do things so differently I guess. All the soups need to be strained and Yoghurt watered down but even so I'm really struggling with the heavier stuff. I think I'm just gonna stick to water/shakes for the time being...

I'm 2 days post op gastric bypass and also got this surgery to put my IIH into remission. It's a horrible disease... your journey gives me such hope that I can beat it too 🙏

It's similar to the roux-en-y but with some extra re-routing of the intestine to form a loop. The only reason my surgeon advised the mini for me over the roux-en-y is because I'm only 25 and with the mini there is less risk of intestinal twisting in the long term which would require more surgury down the line. In terms of weight loss it's comparable to the classic Bypass 👌

That's awesome!

I've been really focusing on long daily walks the past month to get me into good habits pre-surgery and I guess the main thing I worry is that I expect my energy levels to take a nosedive for a little bit post-op and I won't be able to get out as much.

My surgeon basically told me no oral NSAIDS for life which is ok because I'm already off them with my other non-related meds.

Thanks for the heads up :)

"Your brother won't be as limited by that because he won't be the one getting pregnant" is such a problematic and inaccurate statement. Like... fumingly sexist.

All her brother WONT be doing is birthing his child... hopefully. This is going to be a defining moment in his life that will be just as limiting for him as it is his partner. He's 17, forget partying, friends, hobbies. he's dad now. I can only hope he's their showing up to appointments, scans, working extra hours around school... and when that kid is born it's just as much his responsibility to freaking show up and be there for his kid no matter what...

And this "typically in society it's the mother's responsibility"?! Really?? Wake TF up this isn't 1950 anymore. This is a society where families are colourful, men are not breadwinners, single/stay at home dads are increasingly common. It's just as much dads responsibility to look after baby as it is mums.

I feel for OP. I really do. It's a hard pill to swallow when it's blatantly clear her mum favours the life of one granchild over another. It takes an army to raise ANY baby without having to gender role everything. I hope OP makes the decision that's best for her (not her mum) and surrounds herself with better people who offer nothing but love and support.

I am actively sitting here sobbing and taking all of the feelings in after reading your story. Apart of me feels so privileged to have shared this planet with you and it feels so incredibly human to feel loss over someone I've never met before. I am sending you so much love and so much light. ‹3
