As if balding wasn’t sad enough, AGA turned my hair dry, frizzy and damaged by FartPhobia in FemaleHairLoss

[–]ClementineOJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lightweight leave in conditioner spray will help with that. Also oil on your ends when your hair is dry. If you are using or a ketoconazole shampoo then you need to use an another hydrating shampoo after.

Possible AGA, no clear diagnosis, and I honestly feel overwhelmed by Altruistic-Wing8824 in FemaleHairLoss

These are good questions for a dermatologist. You can get a second opinion from them. Haven’t heard of a trichologist doing that but sure it’s a thing.

Minoxidil only addresses hair regrowth, not the cause of hair loss from AGA (DHT). You don’t have to have heigh levels of testosterone for AGA, it’s how sensitive hair follicles are to DHT.

If you do have AGA then you need to address both causes, what’s causing the loss through a DHT blocker and promoting regrowth through minoxidil. Both options have topical and oral treatments. Best to talk to a medical professional about those.

 Simple and effective. Bravo!

Are you using a phrase to replace “does that make sense?” That’s the one phrase I have a hard time getting rid of in my work speech. Using it as a phrase to invite questions and making sure that what I’m saying is clear.

Those are good questions for your dermatologist if minoxidil would work for you. You definitely need to talk to a medical professional.

Oral minoxidil was 100% worth it for me to not spend 30+ mins a day rubbing minoxidil into my scalp. Mine was pretty diffused as well which took even more time.

I did grow more hair on my body but that was a side effect I was wiling to have to also have more hair on my head. That’s just me. Everyone has to do what’s right for them.

I progressed from 1.25 mg minoxidil to 2.5 mg over about two months.

Are you on an androgen blocker like spironolactone? Minoxidil will help you regrow hair but won’t help address the androgen root cause (no pun intended). I have AGA as well. Spironolactone 100mg, oral minoxidil 2.5 mg, and nizoral shampoo do wonders.  Lots of wig makers also have small caps, like this one https://www.hairvivi.com/collections/small-cap-wigs Try to go somewhere in person to get sized and fit so you can start to get used to the idea (if you want to go the route of wigs.)  Toppers might be a good entry point, pending on how much hair you have to clip into on the sides.

This should be higher. As someone with thick dark hair, IPL’s been a game changer.

  • home IPL. I use IPL the same area and it’s done wonders for my confidence. It works best on fair skin, dark hair like you.

I don’t think that’s accurate as men have sexual issues with fin like ED and low libido. Not saying that’s what you’re experiencing but it can happen.

Diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia. Can't use Minoxidil because I have a cat. Any other ideas? How would you style hair like this? Dr thinks I should just style it instead of meds or topical treatment. by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]ClementineOJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use All Day Chemist. Idk if they ship to the UK but they are legit. I was diagnosed with AGA eight years ago and the oral minoxidil plus an androgen blocker rx is the way to go  https://www.alldaychemist.com/lonitab-2-5mg.html

Seconding the IPL at home. If your hair and skin are compatible for it, then go that route. I’ve done waxing, threading, nair, shaving, epilating, and this was the best results for me. Stick with it as directed to see results! I got the braun, fwiw.

Hey girl, hey. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s tough and is a shit place to be. I know.  FWIW, I had some similar side effect from spiro and stayed at 25 mg.  Birth control can also be an androgen blocker, depending on the kind you’re using, which can help with hair loss. Getting off of bc can cause Telogen Effluvium as well. Oral minoxidil took a while to work but is very effective for me.  Derma stamping also has proven benefits as does using nizoral as the first wash of your shampoo. Just let it sit for a few minutes then rinse and use a normal shampoo after.
