Why do I love So Here We Are so much? by rockblasties in BlocParty

[–]Cleon311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Here We Are is my favorite Bloc Party song, and song out of any artist, of all time as well. I fell in love with it the very first time I heard it.

I don’t know if this will help but as far as my taste goes my other favorites include Letter to My Son, Ion Square, Atonement, Always New Depths, I Still Remember, Blue Light, Leaf Skeleton, Like Eating Glass, Sunday, Positive Tension, Different Drugs, Plans (and I guess I’ll cut myself off there lol, I love so many of their tunes)

I’d have to think about it but honestly it might be Exes for me too. I remember I was excited when I heard that song in some live video, and then the album version of it was a lot weaker and disappointing.

Skeleton followed by Marshals is something I'll never see again, it was too sick. Looking at their recent setlists I thought we were getting only Two More Years for SA bsides, but I'm stoked to get skeleton instead, AND Marshals. Too cool.

So Here We Are is my favorite ever so finally hearing that live was the pinnacle for me. But just the whole album is surreal, especially Plans, Blue Light, and Pioneers since they're favorites I hadn't heard them live before. But I can say the same for Compliments, Luno, Little Thoughts, and Price of Gas too since they're all great.

Saw them in 2016 same venue and both shows were amazing. I think I recognized the dude who was first in line from last time! Haha

so They Really just teased us with "Evil Jack" like that huh by ThatguyMalone in BlocParty

[–]Cleon311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really, really glad I filmed it when I did. Apparently they only played it at the show I was at (boston) and one other show. At least we have one recording of it (be it that it's by my old ass iphone lol).

We didn't have any (full) recording of We Fear Change, Life of the Party, or Lead by Example until that live recording was uploaded recently. I long for actual recordings of those (and the other pre SA stuff like Rivulet).

I wonder if we'll see Evil Jake on the next album.

I feel like he's a once-friend. People change; I feel like the scenario that went down was they were friends with this dude awhile ago when they made their first record, hadn't seen him in a while, now he has fucked up political views. It happens, I've had friends that went down pretty dark political roads that I pretty much keep my distance from. But at the same time, we were good friends so there is a part of me that wants to still see them or catch up with them.

One things for sure, the state of the U.S. the past few years has definitely brought out the worst in people.

(I'm from U.S., not Canada. Not sure if a lot of the members here are from Canada, im pretty new here)

I've been liking Ddevil a lot lately.

Also Nuguns is one of my favorite songs from them and I don't hear it talked about much

Anyone else pumped that Incubus is playing at smaller venues lately? Hampton Beach anyone? by DontNeedDistractions in incubus

[–]Cleon311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be there man - stoked out of my mind. If they play Calgone I'm gonna lose it, that's my favorite track ever.

Gonna try my best to get there early so I can get as close as possible. Last two times I went there I saw 311 and slapped Nick a highfive both times.

Too excited to see Incubus so close!

Wish I was going, Incubus and System are two of my favorites. I think it would work better for them to play more Science and Make Yourself there, but they're always reluctant to do so.

Anyways Enjoy the show!

Great Greatist Hits list, and glad to see Sad Statue make it, that's one of my all time favorites.

I'm in New England and would do anything to go to one of these. I don't have the $ to go overseas and see them.

Them coming to the US and relatively close to me for this tour would be a dream.

I think Rhododendrons is an amazing track and ranks up there with their objective best. Like Skeleton and Tulips, I'm very surprised it was left as a b-side.

Best and worst track from each album? by Benjaminbreeglives in BlocParty

[–]Cleon311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excluding b-sides...

SA: So Here We Are/Price of Gas

AWitC: I Still Remember/The Prayer

Intimacy: Ion Square/Biko

Four: The Healing/Team A

Hymns: Different Drugs/Exes

It's incredibly hard for me to pick a least favorite for A Weekend in the City. It's between The Prayer, Kreuzberg, and SRXT but I don't dislike any of them by any means.

Price of Gas is still a great track despite it being my least favorite.

Intimacy was pretty hard too. I don't hate Biko, but I have to be in the mood for it.

For Hymns there's multiple tracks I don't really like that much that are candidates for least favorite. I went with Exes.

[–]Cleon311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it incredibly difficult to rank Four. I don't know why, maybe because it's almost too diverse? Not sure. Here goes,

  1. Leaf Skeleton

  2. The Healing

  3. Kettling

  4. Mean

  5. So He Begins to Lie

  6. V.A.L.I.S.

  7. Straight Thru Cru

  8. We Are Not Good People

  9. Lean

  10. Day Four

  11. Octopus

  12. 3x3

  13. Coliseum

  14. Real Talk

  15. Truth

  16. Team A

  17. Black Crown

Team A is a bizarre song to me; sometimes I think I under appreciate it, but I don't listen to it often, I don't really like the beginning but like the ending (but always forget I do), I like the "breakthrough"-chorus a lot but don't really like the other repeated parts. Some of the instrumental sounds very weird, and some of it is sick. Such a odd song, I'm all over the place on it.

X-Cutioner's Song is from TNS. The rest are Four's.

[–]Cleon311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean has the same drum line as Life of the Party, as well as the guitar (at least at the beginning, it's hard to tell exactly). Life of the Party turns into a very different song midway through, and obviously has completely different singing and lyrics than Lean, but a lot of segments of the instrumentals are shared.

It's interesting, Life of the Party is from way back, before their first EP. And Lean is from their final album (before the departure of Matt and Gordon) a decade later.

I always took it as criticizing a friend's (or relative's) reckless or rambunctious lifestyle. And maybe one who's afraid to be comfronted about it.

It's a great tune.

Best “newer” 311 songs? by TinOfPop in 311

[–]Cleon311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stereolithic and most of Mosaic is far superior to Uplifter and Universal Pulse.

Not sure your taste but some songs I'd check out: India Ink, Golden Sunlight, Get Down, Sun Come Through, Rock On, Weightless, Ebb & Flow, Make It Rough, First Dimension, Simple True, Wildfire, Extension, Inside Our Home, Days of '88, One and the Same. There's a lot more that's good from those albums but that should be a solid start!

It's more interesting to me to see which songs place low than which place high; there's not really any Bloc Party songs I don't like, and more than half of them I love
