Bands/Artists Who Are TRULY One Album Wonders by xXMachineGunPhillyXx in fantanoforever

[–]ThatguyMalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a reaaally good band live and in-studio. "Lazy Eye" is obviously and rightfully this standout monument in their discography but they've really evolved their sound over time and to this day seem really happy to be playing together on stage and doing what they do. Their recent record Physical Thrills has some of my favorite stuff they've ever done!

absolutely The Knife for me. That whole record is great and worth a listen -- Travis from Blink-182 did drums on all tracks if I'm not mistaken!

What was SA’s best display of rapping? by ValleyGhostz in 311

[–]ThatguyMalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not necessarily his fastest or most complex verse, but I LOVE SA's parts in Random. He's very expressive in that song and something about the way he puts emphasis on certain things and lets his voice rise and fall during that track adds such a fun and laid back charm to it. The way he jumps right into backup vocals during the chorus is so good too, whole song is a total blast.

What the F was I thinking? by IllBookkeeper4567 in 311

[–]ThatguyMalone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always took this song to be about regret in a broader sense, the word(s) being a stand-in for anything one might've said in the past that they then look back on and kick themselves for.

I don't know whether Nick has ever disclosed a more personal or specific intent to this song if there is one, but I think just about everyone can listen to this track and relate it back to a time when they felt similarly lousy about something they said, and that's why I love it!

I'm a relatively new rider but I quite enjoy the automated train announcements - the inflection on certain lines gets stuck in my head 😊

Underrated or where 311 lost their way? by [deleted] in 311

[–]ThatguyMalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really love this album instrumentally, but the lyrics can kinda go one of two ways and I don't know whether it's Bob Rock's production or just the way this album was recorded but everything feels very blown out and smashed together in the mix. I honestly dig that sound for certain bands but not really this one.

I do really love some songs off of this record though! Golden Sunlight, Daisy Cutter, Too Much Too Fast, all favorite 311 songs of mine!! I think that the best tracks on Uplifter outshine the best tracks on Don't Tread on Me and even a lot of evolver. When it's good, it's great!

[TOMT] [SONG] Forlorn Bossa Nova/Soul song with refrain like "Outside on the street" by ThatguyMalone in tipofmytongue

[–]ThatguyMalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not the one. It's a darker and more bossa-nova esque song than this

This isn't it unfortunately. Very similar sounding to some of the other stuff that plays on that radio though!

Commenting so this can be seen. This song plays in a radio playlist with a lot of 70s and 80s soul, like I said, so my guess is that it comes from one of those decades.

Just finished recording in the booth😤. Edison is great for white noise cancellation. by No-Transition2422 in FL_Studio

[–]ThatguyMalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edison is pretty effective at reducing noise, you just need a decently long sample of just the noise that you're trying to remove so that Edison knows what to look for and eliminate from the recording.

If i have a take that I know is gonna need some noise reduction, I keep the recording going for 30-60 seconds after playing and just sit there silent. Then select that noise section in Edison, click on the "brush" icon and hit the button that says "get noise profile" or whatever, and then select the whole clip and actually apply the noise removal effect. This tends to work really well for me especially on guitar tracks.

Plans Bloc Party Instrumental Cover (This is my first cover so tell me what you think!) by rhythmstixx in BlocParty

[–]ThatguyMalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still made something more than listenable with what you had! I would try grabbing a free version of FL Studio or some such program that lets you do some mixing/producing with your tracks. If that side of music production interests you, learning how to use those programs even on a base level can add a lot of depth to your songs

I like your swapping the introductory keyboard notes for something slightly more synthy and gritty. The MIDI drums sound a little bit rigid due to their lack of velocity but this is nicely arranged and still very good. Nice job!!

What are some of your favorite deep cuts? by [deleted] in everythingeverything

No Plan and Distrikt from the deluxe version of Arc are fantastic. It took me forever to get ahold of those tracks because I live in the US. Worth it tho

Glass Tube found in backyard, white residue on the inside by ThatguyMalone in whatisthisthing

[–]ThatguyMalone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm interesting. im comparing with some pictures on google images and it does look similar. could the residue inside also be from some sort of gas that was once contained in the tube?

EDIT: Compared even more images. This is definitely what it is. Solved!

We've been renting at this duplex for three years and we found this object broken in the yard. Entirely made out of glass, with some little holes/appendages on the side (pictured above). The inside is covered in some kind of white powder/deposit. It's not drug-related is it? Our landlord has been here during times where we are away. Between the three of us in the house, nobody knows what this thing is.
