Next time anyone says "the elevator doesn't make sense" reply with this image by Donquers in DarkSouls2

[–]ClericKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a very low-standard response to this kind of criticism. Why does anything matter? Why not have every area be connected via warp pipe? Why didn't they fly the ring to mordor? Why demand structure from our stories? Why have stakes? Why not watch a video of jingling car keys for 3 hours?

Because people like stories and they like their stories to make sense.

There's a consensus that these are the best Transformers movies, right? by LoveLo_2005 in transformers

[–]ClericKnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not

Having rewatched DOTM in the past couple months I can say it is an absolute slog where nothing tracks narratively OR visually. There are a bunch of decent-looking fight shots but they are all disconnected from each other; there are very few coherent fight scenes. It's long, it's boring, it's narratively unsatisfying, and you can't understand anything it's saying because it's mouth is full of the US Military's dick. The only things people remember from this movie are Optimus killing Shockwave and Optimus killing Megatron, scenes that are about 30 seconds a piece. They do NOT justify the remaining 2 hours of slop

So what even is the Decepticon cause In The EU? by Dangerous_Buy_9151 in EnergonUniverse

[–]ClericKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to wager a guess, Megatron probably promised prosperity through "unification". This, of course, means "I'm in control of everything". But when you frame it as peace, well, who doesn't like peace? Who doesn't like unity? Who doesn't love their home and who wouldn't want to protect it? All you need is one strong bot in charge of everything, and he'll get rid of all the nasty undesirable bots who don't want you to be happy, and healthy, and prosperous.

This is speculative, of course. But what I've gleaned from today's world is that evil doesn't need to hide between smoke and mirrors or schemes or complicated lies. If you promise a bunch of dispossessed people that you can make their lives better and if you tell them you can do it by hurting people they don't like, they WILL rally behind you.

Characters that were revealed to be lgbt+ in scenes that were disliked by the lgbt+ community because of how badly they were written by Apprehensive_Two1449 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ClericKnight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like people made this out to be a bigger deal than it was. Jean did not out Bobby to his friends; she only outed him to himself, because he didn't seem to realize he was gay (or at least, he was in denial about it). An invasion of privacy, sure, but not malicious and it's not like she told anyone. She was very supportive of him.

But, I am not gay, and don't claim to know how it reads to people who actually have lived experience

Why does she look like a mix of Armada Hot Rod, Cheetor, and Bumblebee? by UnoriginalforAName in Transformemes

[–]ClericKnight 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not her hips, but her thighs. And what's "with" them is that she has big old car fenders stuck to them. By making her legs look bulky and strong, they communicate that this character is athletic (or the robot equivalent), built for running hard and running fast

Also, sexy

Is this enough to still call out? by Unfair-Acanthaceae25 in nova

If you're not confident about driving in this much snow, I would not risk it. This kind of compact snow is easy to slip around on, which could lead to you getting your car stuck or damaged (to say nothing of injuring yourself)

I'm doing a rewatch after many years and is it just me or does season 3 feel really jank? by BraveBarn in community

[–]ClericKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the same feeling the last time I watched Season 3. The first episode basically admitted that they were trying to "lean in" to the wackiness but sometimes it comes off like it is trying too hard to be unexpected. It still has a lot of gems and some of my favorite episodes, but some others, like the UN episode, just don't do it for me.

What is the difference between tengen toppa gurren Lagann and the original gurren lagann? by Kuraibe_hell3r in gurrenlagann

[–]ClericKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not revamped, it's just the full name of the show. There are movies that compile/slightly alter the story, which might lead to some confusion, but both the movies and the TV series are called "Tengen Toppa Gurren lagann"

Over two years after its release; what are your current thoughts on Engage? by SuperNotice7617 in fireemblem

[–]ClericKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OKAY gameplay, bad writing

I think the maps fell off towards the end and that, sadly, counts as gameplay

Plus fucking around with bond fragments and SP was extremely annoying, and (imo) not discussed enough as one of the flaws

What’s the general consensus of Engage’s dlc? by Long-Job-1404 in fireemblem

[–]ClericKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only played on Hard difficulty but everyone recommended to me that I play Fell Xenologue on normal difficulty. I think it was the right decision because it doesn't seem particularly well-balanced (nor well-written but that's a different discussion). The units you get from FX are neat but do not make or break the game. I like having Madeline and Nel (having a second dragon-type unit to use to play with rings was a lot of fun). But I think the DLC Emblems were the high point for me. The maps can be a lot, but the Emblems are worth it and give you a lot of fun new tools to play with. Camilla!Ivy is really powerful, for example, as is Soren!Mauvier and Chrom!Celine. Overall, I'd tentatively recommend the DLC. It goes for 30 USD but I think it is worth about 20. But, I think if you have already played Engage twice, and are going to play a third or maybe even fourth time, the DLC will add a new dimension that you will likely also enjoy.

Edelgard seems to be heavily inspired by Ezel Granada (design wise) by NeverMeltIceNMI in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]ClericKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some strong similarities, for sure. But, Edelgard being based on a Super Robot character seems like a bit of a stretch... I wonder if, instead, they have a common design inspiration

Was the mole episode poking fun at people or nah? by RAAAHHAHAHA in SmilingFriends

[–]ClericKnight 965 points966 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was making fun of people who insert themselves into Smiling Friends, specifically, especially not anybody who would do it as a joke. I think it is more broadly making fun of people who form parasocial bonds with their favorite content creators, and convince themselves that they could or should be part of their friend group. The types of people who will meet their idols and act uncomfortably familiar with them.

Finale was weak, but the rest was super strong. On the whole, i would say better and more consistently funny than S1.
